The heavy steel door slid open with a low hiss, revealing the dimly lit observation room. I stood there, clipboard in hand, staring at the wall of monitors that displayed the latest additions to our ever-growing roster of anomalies.

I set the clipboard down and rubbed my temples. These women — these entities — had become far more than simple containment subjects. Some loved me. Some wanted to devour me. A few did both. And somehow, I was supposed to counsel them. Guide them. Survive them.
A soft knock came from the door behind me. I didn’t need to turn around to know who it was. The faint scent of water and lilies told me everything.
“Aga… are you working late again?” Undine’s gentle voice drifted through the room like a soothing current.
I smiled despite myself.
