Phone Number
"Hehe."
So Eun-byeol giggled as she dried her hair, her fingers flying over her phone. Lately, she'd been totally hooked on KakaoTalk with her Constellation ever since it started a little while ago. She was a bit curious how he'd gotten her chat ID, but...
'Guess that's just how great he is?'
A being like a god who could awaken humans at will—she just figured it made sense. Someone who could even manipulate status windows knowing a mere chat ID would be weirder if he couldn't.
"No reply again."
Puff. So Eun-byeol puffed out her cheeks. Sometimes the Constellation would just ghost the convo without a word. Sure, as a divine being he must be busy, but it still stung a little.
'Well, he's probably got other apostles too... Can't be helped.'
In truth, he was just busy gaming and had tossed his phone aside, but So Eun-byeol had no way of knowing that. She set her phone down and focused on drying her hair. If she didn't hurry, she'd be late for class.
Vrrr.
- Caller: Mom
As her hair was almost dry, a call came in from her mom. So Eun-byeol quickly picked up.
"Hey Mom, what's up? Yeah, yeah. I've already registered as an Awakener, just gotta take the hunter exam later. It's not that hard for Awakened folks, so don't worry. Hehe, I'll succeed soon and pay off all your debts. Is Eun-jeong okay? Yeah. Don't worry, okay? Love you too."
Her mom had been super worried ever since hearing her daughter had suddenly Awakened. So Eun-byeol reassured her and pocketed her phone. Then she grabbed the wooden sword she'd left aside.
Slash (F)
Paang!
She swung it lightly. She'd never properly held so much as a kitchen knife her whole life, but her slash was sharp and swift like a kendo master's.
'It's always so amazing no matter how many times I use it.'
This was a skill. Sure, just F-rank, but it was worlds apart from a normal person's swing. Once she trained her body a bit more, passing the hunter exam would be easier than eating cake.
And once she became a hunter...
'Even D-rank, if I push it, I could make about 10 million won a month, right?'
Even bottom-tier D-rank hunters could rake in more than most big corp salarymen. Ten million a month. If that kept up, she could clear the crushing debt she'd suffered under for years, and cover her little sister's hospital bills without issue.
Of course, to hit 10 mil as a D-rank, she'd have to work nonstop.
'But being able to earn it at all is what's important.'
At the convenience store part-time, she couldn't touch that even working 24/7. The fact she could earn it was huge.
"So Eun-byeol, fighting!"
She returned the wooden sword, changed in the locker room, confirmed no one was around, and pumped herself up alone.
"Alright, design the Type 3 Magic Circuit by next week, and that's class for today. Good work, everyone."
"Thanks~ Professor."
I gave the meaningless courtesy and stood. No idea why, but lectures always made me drowsy. There was some assignment, but fuck it. Just skip and take the D. Nothing beats a D for screwing over some prick the prof doesn't like. F means retake, but D is final.
Probably shove a D instead of F if I skip the assignment.
'As long as I don't flunk out.'
For that, snag decent grades in other classes... Whatever, it'll work out. Worst case, drop out.
Honestly, a Myeongcheon University degree was worthless for my life anyway. Thinking it over, having it might even hurt more. Isn't a high school grad worth more than a Myeongcheon alum...? Nah, whatever.
"Whatcha doin'?"
"Busy, bro."
"Bullshit... PC bang?"
"Maybe."
Kim Hyun-do next to me suggested PC bang. Guess he couldn't forget me carrying him last time.
"I'll carry again, bro."
"Carry my ass."
"Oh? Wanna skip?"
"You sayin' you're my only hope?"
Straight to the PC bang. As always, smashed LoL for 6 hours, ate dinner there too, then out.
"Why so many trash mobs today?"
"Fuckin' right~."
Monkeys infested the team, pissed me off. How could they suck worse than Kim Hyun-do? Made me feel bad for actual monkeys. The ones today were sub-monkey retards.
"Yo, check that out."
"What."
We were bitching when Kim Hyun-do pointed somewhere. I looked.
A few girls clustered, chattering.
"Rock-paper-scissors, loser asks for number, deal?"
"Fuck off."
Dumbass Kim Hyun-do. I eyed him like the retard he was.
"Scared?"
"Scared my ass. Then what?"
"What? For fun, ya loser."
Normies are beyond me. I scanned the girls again. Cute enough, so why not.
"Fine. Let's do it."
"I'll do rock, you know. Rock-paper-scissors!"
Said rock but paper, the trash. But I read him and won.
"Fuck."
Kim Hyun-do grumbled off to the girls. I trailed sneaky to watch.
"Excuse me."
"Yes?"
"Can I get your number? Wanna get close."
"Uh... No thanks! Heehee."
"Alright, take care~."
Smooth rejection, he bailed.
"That's it?"
"What, cling like a bitch? Not drunk enough for that."
"Actin' normie but you're trash too."
Lame-ass number hunt ended. Kim Hyun-do scanned around, pointed at the convenience store. Eun-byeol's workplace.
Yeah, she should be working now.
"Yo, that?"
"What."
"Convenience store clerk's fuckin' hot."
"I know, dipshit."
I've seen her naked via Diorama. This punk yapping wrinkles in front of a cocoon.
"Dungeon History Club goddess. No BF apparently? Wanna ask for number?"
"Oh yeah? She gonna give hers to you just cuz no BF?"
"For fun, dude. Rock for real this time?"
Another round. I lost. Didn't expect paper again from this chimp. Lost mind game to a monkey. Ultimate shame.
"Hurry up."
Kim Hyun-do snickered, shoved me in. Pretended to browse shelves while peeking.
Ahem.
I cleared my throat. Any other girl, maybe not, but I'd peeped Eun-byeol via Diorama daily, and now daily chats, so asking for number was doable.
To the counter. So Eun-byeol looked at me.
"Excuse me,"
"Yes."
"Gimme your number."
Thud. Sounded like Kim Hyun-do grabbing his neck. Did I say wrong? Too direct maybe. But even normie-smooth wouldn't change shit.
No guy ever got her number while I watched via Diorama. Even hotshots dashed and got walled. No way she'd give me hers.
"010-7496-3578... Huh?"
"Pardon?"
But she said it. And not random—her real number I knew.
She panicked too, weird noise. Her pupils quaked.
Silence, then she rushed: "Ah, wrong... Not 3578, 4687."
"Oh, thanks."
I left the flustered Eun-byeol behind, out the store.
Am I some chad looks that hits on girls easy? For real?
Nah. Then I wouldn't be 23-year virgin.
Just spaced out, answered subconsciously.
"Heh heh heh."
"Yo, what? How'd you snag it? She's famous iron wall."
"Means I'm that hot."
"Bullshit, virgin."
"What'd she say?"
"Fuck off. Mine only. Jealous? Ask yourself."
Kim Hyun-do went back in. I watched his fail through the window. Predictably, no number for him.
"Fuck why not me."
"Means you're that ugly."
"Wanna die? I got a GF."
"Me too soon?"
Teased him good, then home. Flopped on bed, replayed it.
'Something off.'
Was shocked then, but replaying, weird. Even spaced, spilling number easy? Iron wall who'd rejected 100+ times.
'Dunno.'
Thought a bit, dropped it.
Time to fap anyway.
