Gu Changge’s gaze was profound, countless memories surfacing in his mind.
About Qingyi, about the first Great War Against Heaven, and even about the Forbidden Epoch—that is, the reason he had shattered the heavens with a single palm strike before the second Great War Against Heaven.
All of this, speaking of it, was part of his grand design. Before the Great Purge descended upon this world, he had incarnated as the Demon Lord, posing as a Progenitor of the Heavenslaying cause who had been living in seclusion in other True Worlds, his origins unknown to anyone.
In that Great War Against Heaven, he had naturally participated as well, joining the other powerhouses in their attempt to storm the Source Realm.
After all, if he wanted to deceive the world—if he wanted to deceive the other two Original True Ancestors—he first had to deceive himself. Otherwise, his plan to devour and replace the other two Original True Ancestors would fail sooner or later.
The Original True Ancestors were beings of unimaginable terror. A single thought from them could perceive everything in the world. They had long since stood at the ceiling of all existence, beyond cause and effect, beyond reverence, having reached a level that cultivators and living beings could never hope to fathom.
The three of them checked and balanced one another, yet also bound one another. They had even made an agreement: every billion-year epoch, one of the Original True Ancestors would take turns presiding over and launching the Great Purge.
Gu Changge, as one of the Original True Ancestors, had been planning and laying his designs for this for countless ages.
He had even deliberately fabricated the Anomaly identity of a Transmigrator, complete with transmigration memories, placing himself beyond fate and crafting this origin for himself.
For the myriad True Worlds, Anomalies were hardly rare, so the identity of a Transmigrator naturally arose without suspicion.
Since the very beginning of creation, far too many Anomalies had appeared, and Transmigrators were merely one type among them.
Anomalies could be said to be born outside the calculations of the Heavenly Dao, their true origins shrouded in mystery. It was extremely difficult to discern and comprehend everything about them through divination.
Anomalies often possessed vast, unknowable Fortuity, capable of altering the great trends of the Heavenly Dao and reaching heights that ordinary cultivators could never attain.
How should this be described?
For the three Original True Ancestors, when it came to the cultivators and living beings born among these True Worlds, they needed only a single glance to know their past, present, and future—to know when they would be born, when they would fall, when they would reincarnate, or what heights they would reach.
There was no secret in this world that they could not know.
They controlled the future, comprehended fate, saw through the Heavenly Dao—omniscient and omnipotent.
A single thought could make the myriad True Worlds replay themselves; a single thought could return everything to chaos.
But among all of this, only Anomalies were the exception.
Anomalies leapt beyond cause, effect, and fate. Their origins were enigmas, and even the Original True Ancestors would find themselves surprised by them. Moreover, the achievements and heights Anomalies could reach far surpassed those of ordinary cultivators and living beings.
Over billions of Great Purges, quite a few Anomalies had been born. Some had even attained power surpassing the Original Soul, surpassing World Masters, daring to challenge the Original True Ancestors themselves.
Of course, the final fate of these Anomalies was always a miserable death—dissected and studied piece by piece.
This allowed the Original True Ancestors to deepen their understanding of Anomalies.
And so Gu Changge chose to take on the Anomaly identity of a Transmigrator, incarnating as the Demon Lord to participate in this True World’s Great War Against Heaven.
The other two Original True Ancestors had long since seen through and understood the existence of such Anomalies. They were neither surprised nor concerned, and they would not grow suspicious.
They were even waiting—waiting for these Anomalies to grow strong enough to stand before them.
Even if one reached the power of a World Master and proudly proclaimed oneself an Immortal Emperor, before the Original True Ancestors, one was still nothing more than an ant.
In fact, the Original True Ancestors had never revealed their true bodies from beginning to end. The figures manifested in the Source Realm were merely the tip of the iceberg. Their true selves resided beyond countless spaces that could neither be described nor imagined.
“The so-called Great War Against Heaven, in the eyes of the Original True Ancestors, is really just like children playing house.”
Gu Changge understood all of this perfectly in his heart. He knew the terror of the Original True Ancestors.
To these cultivators and living beings, such beings simply should not exist in this world.
Because the level and dimension were fundamentally different—no matter how strong an ant grew, it was still an ant.
A human needed only to press down lightly to crush it into dust.
And the gap between the Original True Ancestors and cultivators was far, far more terrifying than the gap between ants and humans.
In this world, only Anomalies had the true qualifications to grow until they could stand before the Original True Ancestors. But that was all.
“And so, in order to scheme against the other two Original True Ancestors, I took the form of an Anomaly, became the Demon Lord, and walked among the myriad True Worlds, laying out everything.”
The Mountains and Oceans True World—the world he currently resided in—was merely one among the many True Worlds.
Gu Qingyi, as an Original Soul born of this world, launched the first Great War Against Heaven when the Great Purge descended. Then, incarnating as the World’s Will, she led this world’s other Heavenslayers in an assault on the Source Realm.
In that battle, they encountered the counterattack of the Source Realm’s clans, and she suffered grievous wounds. I, incarnated as the Demon Lord, appeared in time under the identity of a Heavenslaying Progenitor from another True World, saved her, and led the remaining Heavenslayers of the Mountains and Oceans True World in retreat.
“Xian’er was one of the Heavenslayers who fell in that battle. As a World Child of the Mountains and Oceans True World, she was sent into reincarnation by Gu Qingyi. And so the Great Purge of the Mountains and Oceans True World was delayed.”
Many Heavenslayers perished in the first Great War Against Heaven. Even Gu Qingyi, Original Soul and all, was severely wounded. This world’s vitality withered, its spiritual energy grew thin, and it fell into an era of declining magic—what the Big Red Bird called the Immortal Burial Era.
After the Immortal Burial Era, vast blank epochs appeared in this world. All traces of cultivators vanished, and living beings could hardly develop intelligence. Only after countless years did things improve—the spiritual energy of heaven and earth recovered, traces of cultivators emerged, Daoist sects were established, and orthodoxies and schools sprang up like forests. The Mountains and Oceans True World regained its vitality, and some of the Heavenslayers who had been sent into reincarnation began to reincarnate and step onto the path of cultivation once more.
And I, to avoid arousing the suspicion of the other two Original True Ancestors, personally took action to bring this world’s Great Purge ahead of schedule once again, attempting to grind away and erase the Demon Lord—this Anomaly’s alternate identity. At that time, the Mountains and Oceans True World had not yet recovered to its prime; it was not even at a tenth of it.
Gu Qingyi was worried in her heart and conferred with my Demon Lord self, seeking a way to break the deadlock.
And thus came the Forbidden Epoch of later ages—the Demon Lord shattered this world with a single palm strike, broke the heavens apart, and became a taboo.
Countless thoughts surfaced in Gu Changge’s heart.
In truth, many things became clear at this moment, as if the clouds had parted and everything was laid bare.
Before the Forbidden Epoch, the second Great War Against Heaven had not yet begun when the Great Purge descended.
If no preparations were made, this world would have returned to nothingness entirely, its reincarnation destroyed. Those powerhouses who had fallen would have seen even their last wisp of True Soul collapse and scatter, truly vanishing from this world.
That was why Gu Qingyi had discussed it with him, setting up the scheme and acting out the play together—shattering this world’s heavens, plunging everything back into reincarnation, and thereby delaying the descent of the Great Purge upon the Mountains and Oceans True World once again.
And he, as the Demon Lord, naturally took the blame for this act, becoming the taboo figure whom all later generations dreaded and feared.
Of course, all of this sounds simple now, but back then, to accomplish it, Gu Qingyi also paid an enormous price.
Because she knew that doing so might provoke the wrath of the masters of the Source Realm, and that wrath could spill over onto Gu Changge—at any moment bringing the fate of utter annihilation of body and soul, barred forever from reincarnation.
And Gu Changge, to fully play his part, later even willed a Heavenly Tribulation of wrath to descend from beyond the endless void of space, personally shattering the Demon Lord—this Anomaly’s alternate identity.
Of course, this matter was naturally also part of the plan. Gu Qingyi had long anticipated that it would draw punishment and wrath from the Source Realm.
So she had planned and discussed it with Gu Changge well in advance, using a Forbidden Technique to send a wisp of Gu Changge’s True Soul into reincarnation, avoiding complete annihilation, to be reincarnated in later ages.
However, Gu Qingyi did not know Gu Changge’s true identity. She had always treated him as the Demon Lord, waiting for the day he would awaken and recover his memories.
And the many taboos and precautions in between were all because of those two words—“Anomaly”—fearing that the masters of the Source Realm would awaken ahead of time and detect that the Demon Lord, this Anomaly, had not died.
“So all this time, I have been cooperating with her in this act, playing along with the role of the Anomaly.”
The goal was for this Anomaly to grow until it rivaled my own self, so that together we could replace the other two Original True Ancestors.
After all, only I understand myself best—only I know what level of power is required.
Gu Changge’s expression returned to calm. Awakening so many memories at this moment was not a bad thing for him.
At the very least, he was now proceeding according to plan, without flaws or oversights.
To put it simply, right now he was, in the manner of an Anomaly, on the road of leveling an alt account.
The goal was to grow it to the level of his main account.
Then the two bodies would merge into one, and through all these designs, he would replace the two Original True Ancestors, thereby taking what he considered the final step.
Afterward, Gu Changge and the Big Red Bird set off, stepping onto the Celestial Path that existed beyond the Celestial Ancient Continent. Resplendent light bloomed from within it, and astonishing immortal radiance flowed forth—brilliant and incomparably dense. A hazy, faint path, like a great fissure, appeared in the high skies above the ruins.
At this moment, even the clans of the entire Celestial Ancient Continent felt this fluctuation. They were utterly shocked, believing the Celestial Path had reappeared, that a scene from ancient times was being reenacted.
The Celestial Domain and the Beyond had suffered the Severed Horizons, and now, with the drastic changes in the environment of heaven and earth, unfathomable transformations had occurred along the way, causing the Celestial Path to be severed and truly unreachable.
The Big Red Bird also stated plainly that the Celestial Domain had undergone changes. After the Forbidden Epoch, the many transformations had caused the Mountains and Oceans True World of later ages to be shattered into pieces.
A complete True World, besides portions like the Beyond and the Celestial Domain, also had the Yin True World born alongside and nurtured by it—what the natives of the Mountains and Oceans True World called the Other Domain.
But the Celestial Domain had crumbled, and the laws of heaven and earth in the Beyond were incomplete, unable to form a complete Yang True World. It was still a great distance from being the true Mountains and Oceans True World.
Gu Changge and the Big Red Bird walked along that hazy passage and entered it.
A vast and terrifying ancient aura immediately pressed down upon them, but the instant it fell upon the two of them, it dissipated into nothingness.
“This Celestial Path is already ruined,” Gu Changge said softly, shaking his head as he looked at the desolate, dilapidated scene before him.
Compared to when he had stepped into it back then, it was worse by who knew how many times. He could even see that at the end of this path, dense blood-light was spreading, dyeing the entire sky a crimson red.
