Destined to Shatter the Balance of Ages — The Way of Weighing Power
Destined to Shatter the Balance of Ages — The Way of Weighing Power
Golden light blazed brilliantly, as if a great sun were rising across All of Heaven and Its Thousand Worlds. An ancient, primordial Dao sound traversed hundreds of millions of miles, resounding through every corner of the universe.
This colossal list was forged from countless rare divine materials, its entire body suffused with a hazy golden radiance, Chaos Energy coiling around it.
The two characters “Sealing Immortals” were especially archaic and grand, carrying a terrifying aura that seemed to suppress all of heaven itself.
Cultivators of any level, with but a single glance, would have their hearts and minds shaken, unable to resist the urge to prostrate themselves before this list.
Blossom after blossom of Great Dao golden lotuses bloomed around the list.
Even the surrounding stars trembled, seemingly unable to withstand the aura emanating from it.
Dao rhythms flowed and immortal light interwove. Soon, the list was veiled from sight, and no cultivator or living being could peer into it any longer.
Yet All of Heaven and Its Thousand Worlds were shaken by this list. Practically every existence found it impossible to remain calm, unable to sit still.
Decades ago, Changge had spoken of the matter of Sealing Immortals: any cultivator at the Sacred Emperor Realm or above could enter this list, ascend to immortality in a single step, and never again be bound by the rules of heaven and earth.
This matter had shaken All of Heaven and Its Thousand Worlds, leaving many Hidden Experts of that era unable to sit still, worried that the emergence of this list would affect them.
And they were unwilling to entrust their lives to the Divine Empire, to entrust them to Changge.
From another perspective, the matter of Sealing Immortals could directly influence the situation of the entire Beyond, and even the various races of All of Heaven and Its Thousand Worlds—no universe would remain at peace.
After all, this was an inconceivable matter that could allow one to shed mortality in a single leap.
Who could possibly remain untempted and unaffected? Above the Sacred Emperor Realm, there were still the Quasi-Emperor, True Daoist, and Hidden Expert levels.
And for a cultivator to become an immortal, they would have to spend countless ages walking all the way to the level of a Hidden Expert.
The emergence of the Sealing Immortals List was destined to shatter the balance that had held since ancient times.
Changge sat upright within the Divine Empire, gazing distantly at this list. His voice was calm as it spread out from this place, like a great bell tolling, resounding through all of heaven.
“The Sealing Immortals List is complete. All who enter this list shall receive the blessing of Fortuity and faith, ascending from mortal to immortal.”
As his words fell, the Sealing Immortals List concealed its traces, its glorious might vanishing beyond the edge of the firmament. Yet that astonishing, terrifying phenomenon continued to be reflected across all of heaven.
But because of these words, tremendous waves surged through the various universes. The strongest beings of many clans and forces all came forward, summoning their people to begin discussions on how to respond.
Although during this period the Divine Empire’s radiance had illuminated all of heaven, displaying a momentum toward grand unification, All of Heaven and Its Thousand Worlds were simply too vast and boundless. To unify all of heaven within such a short span of time was utterly impossible.
Over these years, many forces had submitted to the Divine Empire, but there were still numerous clans and forces hiding in the shadows. Even traces of the nations beyond the domains had begun to manifest.
Those were outer realms from beyond the Beyond, as ancient as the Beyond itself, with universes stacked upon universes, their foundations deep and ancient beyond imagination.
It was precisely because the rules of heaven and earth in the Beyond were evolving toward completeness that those outer realms began to reveal themselves. Time and space-time were the greatest powers in this world.
Even beings who had achieved the Immortal Dao dared not claim they could see through these secrets, let alone know clearly just how many worlds existed in this universe.
The divine light faded, and Gu Changge’s figure appeared within the imperial palace of the Divine Empire.
His attire was simple—green silk robes, his hair untied, handsome and casual. It was difficult to associate him with the Divine Lord who ruled over all of heaven, the peerless Son of Heaven of his generation.
As he was now, he seemed more like a fine young nobleman of a turbid world, a banished immortal who had strayed into the mortal dust, transcendent and otherworldly.
“Divine Lord, with the emergence of the Sealing Immortals List, chaos is bound to erupt beyond the Divine Empire. Over these years, although the Divine Empire has been purging the various universes, in some corners there remain surviving remnants, creating turmoil through various means.”
A minister was presenting his report, speaking respectfully. “During this period, there have even been remnants of those destroyed Dao traditions using secret arts to sacrifice ancient remnant souls, attempting to worship Demonic Immortals in order to disrupt the foundations of our Divine Empire.”
“Your subjects are dull-witted and unable to eliminate them once and for all.”
Hearing these words, Gu Changge nodded slightly, his expression unchanged. “I am already aware of this matter. Even if Demonic Immortals appear, they would not dare show themselves within the Divine Empire’s borders.”
“The matter of the Demonic Immortals cannot be blamed on you. Even possessing only a sliver of their peak intelligence, they are by no means something ordinary people can contend against.”
He did not like referring to himself as “We” in the imperial fashion, so most of the time, before his ministers, he simply used “I.”
Matters like today’s had occurred far too often over these years.
At first, the ministers had been quite astonished, but later they grew accustomed to it, knowing that Gu Changge was not advanced in years and disliked tedious formalities.
For many matters, Gu Changge preferred to resolve them in simple, direct ways, disliking beating around the bush.
As for the Demonic Immortals—
Those Dao traditions he had once destroyed had ultimately not been completely eradicated. Over these years, they had gathered strength in various places, even using secret sacrificial arts to offer up themselves, connecting to the River of Time in the unseen depths, seeking to find a trace or imprint of their former ancestors and summon them back.
The ancestors of those Dao traditions destroyed because of Gu Changge had all been genuine beings of the Celestial Realm.
Because of the evolution and transformation of the world’s environment, the power of the Celestial Realm could now manifest. Thus, the divine soul imprints that had once perished in the long river of ages were revived as a result.
This was what led to the so-called matter of the Demonic Immortals.
Over the past several decades, the Demonic Immortals eradicated by the Divine Empire numbered no fewer than ten, and the situation was now growing ever more intense.
“It seems the Department of Suppressing Evil’s strength is still insufficient over these years. Minister of Suppressing Evil, you shall personally go to the great sects and clans and select youths of decent talent, having them join the Department of Suppressing Evil under the Blade Guard. They may exchange merit points for cultivation techniques, Transcendent abilities, and all manner of treasures.”
“If Demonic Immortals are allowed to wreak havoc upon the world, the realm will know no peace and the foundations will be unstable. This scourge must ultimately be removed.”
Changge instructed casually.
Blade, Spear, Sword, and Halberd were the four guards he had casually created. The four guards specialized in slaughter and were among the most terrifying forces of the Divine Empire in recent years.
The Minister of Suppressing Evil was an extremely fierce and burly man, Chaos Energy faintly clinging to his body, his appearance enough to frighten away evil spirits and silence crying infants.
“Yes, Divine Lord.”
Upon receiving his orders, he immediately departed to relay the command to the various clans and sects to select their talents.
Though the Department of Suppressing Evil sounded noble in name, it was in truth something Gu Changge had deliberately created after heeding Yin Mei’s advice.
As for its purpose, it was not truly to eliminate evil beings or Demonic Immortals, but merely to balance and suppress the power of the various clans and ministers.
There was no absolute peace in this world. Gu Changge had long anticipated the matter of the Demonic Immortals and, in truth, did not much care about it.
However, by establishing the Department of Suppressing Evil under the pretext of selecting prodigies, the talents of the various clans and forces would be chosen to serve him. After training and cultivation, they would become devoutly loyal to him. Only over time would its true function become apparent.
After handling the multitude of affairs, Gu Changge’s figure dissolved into a wisp of flowing energy and vanished. Naturally, this was not his true body—merely a dharma body of rules condensed from a casual thought. Yet even Hidden Experts could never hope to discern the difference.
During this period, his true body had been seated cross-legged at the end of the void beyond the Divine Empire, refining the True Blood of the Kun Lord, while simultaneously using his will to make contact with the Celestial Domain that was reaching toward the Beyond from the unseen depths.
Beyond that, Gu Changge was also refining the Source accumulated by the Ancient Reincarnation Supreme Being, his cultivation advancing at a terrifying speed.
If he were to undergo the baptism of the Immortal Tribulation, his realm could perhaps, in a single instant, ascend to an inconceivable level.
