I'm Sharing My Wife More Seriously Than I Thought
As I sat down at the dining table, a bowl of steaming white rice sparkled under the light.
“There shouldn’t have been any rice left…”
“I… went to the market…”
Yang Ji-soo answered in a voice that was fading away, covering her mouth as she smiled shyly.
Eun-ho and I weren’t the type to cook at home often.
Housework, especially cooking, shouldn’t be the woman’s sole responsibility. That’s too outdated. But I don’t want to shove that burden onto you, either.
So we usually ate out or ordered delivery together. I couldn’t even remember where we’d stashed the rice cooker our friends gave us as a wedding present.
Yet there it stood now, proud and imposing in the kitchen, as if reminding me that cooking rice had always been its purpose, proudly producing a full pot of gleaming white grains.
“It’s not much, but…”
The rich aroma of doenjang jjigae rose as Yang Ji-soo set a full bowl before me and lowered her head.
I was stunned.
Fragrant dallae namul carrying the fresh scent of spring, vibrant spinach, and crisp bean sprouts wove a beautiful tri-color tapestry across the table. Golden, perfectly steamed egg custard beckoned my spoon with an irresistible sheen.
Had she made all of this while I was asleep?
What on earth had even been in our refrigerator? Eggs, at most?
When she set down the final plate with a soft clink, revealing the vivid red side dish, I couldn’t hold back any longer.
“Did you… buy kimchi too? We already have plenty at home…”
“It’s geotjeori… I just… made it fresh…”
It wasn’t the endlessly rotting, over-fermented kimchi that filled our kimchi fridge thanks to both sets of parents who kept sending more no matter how often we told them we didn’t need it. This was freshly made geotjeori, its bright, tangy seasoning enough to make anyone salivate. It was genuinely delicious.
“If I’d had a little more time… I could have prepared so many other things for you…”
Yang Ji-soo looked truly apologetic as she pulled a pack of fresh hanwoo from the fridge, smiling awkwardly.
“Should I… grill some meat for you?”
There’s an old saying: if you want to capture a man, start with his stomach.
Eun-ho had always been hopeless in the kitchen. Having lived alone for years, I was actually the better cook. Eun-ho preferred drinks over proper dinners, instant meals, and coffee, so I sometimes worried she might suffer from malnutrition and practically forced nutritional supplements on her.
A bubbling pot of doenjang jjigae for breakfast?
I had never received such a thing, nor had I ever expected it. I never considered it a wife’s duty in the first place.
Yeah, because we’re an equal couple~
We had chosen each other with that understanding.
But.
“Munch… munch… slurp… slurp…”
The first full seven-dish Korean meal complete with grilled hanwoo I had ever been served was… literally… overwhelming.
Yang Ji-soo kept her apron on as she sat quietly across from me.
“Please eat slowly…”
“Is the rice… not enough?”
“Would you like… more side dishes…?”
With those gentle offers, she moved between the table and kitchen with practiced grace.
“Thank you… for the meal.”
Only after shamelessly devouring a second bowl did I finally come to my senses and realize I had forgotten to thank her, too busy eating.
“......♥”
Without a word, hearts floating in her eyes, Yang Ji-soo poured tea with a soft golden hue into a round glass.
This… could it be…
“Is this… barley tea?”
“Ah… yes… I didn’t see any other tea… so I made some…”
As I rinsed my completely full stomach—not a single grain of rice left—with the nutty, refreshing liquid, I tried to remember the last time I had drunk barley tea. The memory wouldn’t come.
Those carefree childhood days at my grandmother’s countryside house, pouring barley tea from a Del Monte glass bottle and laughing without a worry in the world. This single meal made me feel as if I had returned to that time.
It was the first proper meal I had eaten… since arriving in Korea.
I had been that starved.
…Starved for love, as well.
The moment I finished eating, Yang Ji-soo began clearing the dishes at astonishing speed. I tried to help, but she refused with a firm gaze completely unlike her usual shy demeanor. Only after she had even started the dishwasher—which I couldn’t recall her turning on—could we finally sit across from each other and talk.
“Ji-soo.”
“Yes…”
This level of housework didn’t seem to register as labor to her; she looked completely refreshed. Her enormous breasts, far larger than the apron bought to fit Eun-ho’s slim frame, spilled out more than halfway. I couldn’t tell exactly because of the sweater, but I would have bet my wrist that her nipples were protruding beyond the apron’s edge.
I could never forget the soft moan she let out—“Haaang…”—when she casually rested those heavy breasts on the table, like someone setting down a weight.
“Thanks to the wonderful meal you prepared, I ate very well… but why exactly… are you cooking for me?”
Yang Ji-soo lowered her head deeply.
…?
Following her gaze downward, I saw her face had turned as red as a ripe tomato.
Was she… embarrassed?
“…It’s my duty.”
“Pardon?”
When I pressed because I couldn’t hear her clearly, the mosquito-like reply came again.
“It’s… a wife’s duty.”
“Wife…”
I recalled the letter Min Seo-hye had sent once more.
And please accept Yang Ji-soo as your other wife.
With enough sleep and proper nutrition, my mind was slowly regaining its ability to think clearly. The collapse of my daily life had many overlapping causes, but nothing was more significant than the fact that I had no idea where my wife Eun-ho was or whether she was safe.
Had she been dragged off somewhere and harmed? Was she involved in some crime I knew nothing about? Or had the wife I thought I knew been an entirely different kind of person all along…?
Those catastrophic imaginings had refused to stop. Of course, that last one was still running through my head even now…
I still couldn’t fully grasp what Min Seo-hye’s plan was, but at the very least, Eun-ho would probably be safe if she was with her.
…Whether her womb was safe, however, was impossible to know.
“What does it mean to accept you as my wife… and Min Seo-hye as my wife as well?”
Polygamy wasn’t legally possible in our country. So was this some form of common-law arrangement? Was she suggesting she would build me a harem?
Yang Ji-soo gave no answer.
“You… already have a husband, don’t you?”
Nod, nod.
“Is your relationship with him bad? Are you planning to divorce? Or are you looking for a safe partner for an affair?”
She shook her head to all of them.
“Do you know what kind of person Min Seo-hye is? Does she have a hobby of… serving any man who wants her?”
An even more vigorous shake of the head.
“It’s not… just anyone…”
This was becoming even harder to understand. She wasn’t talking about divorce, nor about having an affair…
“Then… are you saying we should all… live together?”
Nod… no, shake.
“Only half right?”
Nod.
Anger flared at the thought that I had to have this kind of conversation with another man’s thirty-seven-year-old wife.
“Then what is it! Are you telling me to share my wife with others?!”
Oh no.
I must be going crazy.
Yang Ji-soo’s eyes… were sparkling.
“Wife… sharing…”
“Sharing?”
“…That’s it.”
Had I misheard her?
“The husbands… pass their wives around?”
…Nod, nod.
“And have children together? Raise them together?”
…Nod.
“Three men and three women?”
Nod, nod.
“How does that even—wait a second.”
Three men?
Three men???
“Then… Min Seo-hye is a married woman?”
……
Yang Ji-soo’s silence stretched on. If not for the faint vibration of her trembling breasts, I might have mistaken the moment for a still image. I wished time would simply stop.
But eventually, slowly, Yang Ji-soo’s head moved.
Nod.
Yang Ji-soo let out heavy sigh after heavy sigh. It seemed she hadn’t realized I didn’t know.
This was unbelievable. Truly.
My office wife. The woman I had slept with in France, confessed my love to, and even given a ring. She was… a married woman…
The shock was so immense that, paradoxically, it made me strangely calm.
“You and Min Seo-hye… already knew each other, right?”
Nod.
“How long… exactly?”
One finger raised.
“One year… And during that time, your couple and her couple were also ‘sharing’?”
Nod, nod.
We decided to grant Eun-ho’s wish of wanting to have a child.
That damned “we” meant two full years and two men.
“Then… Min Seo-hye’s husband is that… tall man over 185 centimeters, the one with the great physique… right?”
“???”
What was this?
The largest question marks I had seen yet floated in Yang Ji-soo’s eyes.
“Seo-hye’s… husband?”
“Yes, Seo-hye’s husband.”
Yang Ji-soo tilted her head and smiled brightly.
“Both Seo-hye and I… are wives to both of them…?”
Oh my god.
These people were actually insane.
“I’m talking about her original husband! Her original husband…!”
“Original… husband?”
Was she pretending not to understand, or did she really not get it? Yang Ji-soo stuttered like a computer stuck buffering. Her face looked completely lagged.
“Ah… you mean… the husband from her first marriage…?”
Weren’t those the same thing?
“Yes! The husband she married first! Isn’t your husband that middle-aged gentleman who was on the plane? The one who boarded with the baby!”
She clapped her fist into her open palm as if saying “Aha,” then smiled.
“That person… was Seo-hye’s first husband…?”
To summarize.
The middle-aged gentleman who had boarded the flight to France together with Yang Ji-soo and the baby was Min Seo-hye’s “first husband.”
The 185-centimeter giant who had gone to the obstetrician with Eun-ho was Yang Ji-soo’s “first husband”…
In other words, while Yang Ji-soo was being “shared” with Min Seo-hye’s husband, her own husband had been “sharing” my wife, Eun-ho.
Or perhaps… Min Seo-hye had been sharing herself with me…
It was a way of thinking that made no sense to me.
Was Yang Ji-soo really fine with it? Her husband going to the obstetrician with another woman?
“Since when have you known Eun-ho?”
Long fingers fidgeted in front of her massive breasts. It looked like she was counting.
“One month…”
That was two weeks before my business trip to France.
Two weeks.
To decide to do something this enormous with people she had known for such a short time…
“With Serena… it’s been longer with Eun-ho…”
I see.
Serena had approached Eun-ho before that.
In that case, the single thread connecting all these relationships led back to Min Seo-hye. She was the only person linked to every single individual in this story.
“Three husbands and three wives… three couples becoming one family, swapping wives and living together… Is that your plan?”
“The details… are more complicated than that… but generally… yes…”
“…And that’s why you got Eun-ho pregnant?”
“I don’t know yet… if she’s pregnant…”
Bang!
I finally slammed my hand down on the table.
“Are you all… insane?”
