Encyclopedia Perk Acquired: function unlocked!
"Oh…."
I opened the encyclopedia window and let out a little sigh of admiration. Well, it was more like a groan mixed with awe.
Unlocking the encyclopedia perk was great and all. But seeing Shin Na-o's name plastered there with " Complete" stamped next to it felt kinda weird.
"…But why's it registered as Nao instead of Shin Na-o? And a Harmless rank on top of that?"
Vampires are supposed to be super powerful monsters. Sure, they had weaknesses like sunlight or silver bullets, but basically immortal, right? They create and control kin through bloodsucking. A smart one could trigger something like a zombie apocalypse. I figured a Devastation (Rubedo) rank, like threat level 5, wouldn't be out of place.
Guess this proved Nao was a good person. Take Baesena of the Human Shelter—she wasn't harmless from the start either. It took proving zero harm to humans over a long time for her rank to drop to Harmless (Nigredo).
So, Nao probably hadn't attacked anyone yet and wasn't likely to anytime soon. That was my take.
With that settled, I checked the new encyclopedia perk.
What the heck was this function?
: If managed entities from your owned base camps stay there, good things occasionally happen.
Base camps can be unlocked via anomaly resolutions, economic activities, quests, etc.
Current Owned Base Camps: Home, Office, Nao's House
"…Why the hell is Nao's house a base camp?"
That's her house, not mine…
Think positive. After this mess, we'd gotten close. Close enough to pop in and out of each other's places. Yeah, that worked.
It said "good things occasionally happen," but what kind? My question didn't last long.
'Vampire' has earned money.
Nao had been in a great mood lately.
A hefty donation. She didn't need to send so much… but getting it still thrilled her. Nao grinned ear to ear.
It wasn't just the cash. She finally felt like she was living a normal life.
Strictly speaking, she still wasn't quite human. But Nao saw herself as one, even as a vampire.
Maybe because she could afford blood packs steadily now. She never felt the urge around humans, and she'd always dreamed of blending into society. Vampire limitations had held her back—until now.
Of course, constraints remained. Her too-childlike appearance didn't match her ID photo. Making new friends would still be tough.
But walking under the sun? That alone made her happy.
"Money's good—maybe grab something tasty?"
After streaming, Nao muttered to herself. Donations didn't clear instantly, but they'd hit soon enough.
She glanced at the fridge, stuffed with blood packs. Her stockpile, plus what Mayuri gifted.
Foundation blood was way cheaper. She couldn't deal directly without outing herself as a vampire, but Mayuri handled it now.
Economic burden lifted. And her packs weren't dwindling.
One pack lets me use vampire powers all day.
Big Nao mode for about 24 hours. But did she need it nonstop?
Just during streams. Six hours a day meant one pack lasted four days. Off days or short streams stretched it further.
Small Nao could even eat normal food without blood.
Quit streaming, and she'd survive blood-free.
Not quitting, though. Fans were growing, it paid the bills… Changing careers now? Nah.
Just get a VTuber model. That'd slash blood costs.
Anyway, her life felt way more normal.
"Gotta grab a cake."
Nao stood. Blood effect worn off—back to small Nao, clothes baggy. She changed into a new red gothic lolita dress from the closet.
Never cared for these before, but now? Suited her perfectly. More vampiric vibe.
She chuckled and headed out. Eyes followed her on the street, but she enjoyed it.
She dropped by the office.
"Yuri sis, here to hang out!"
"Uh, y-yeah…."
Mayuri eyed her like, Are you insane…? That outfit was nuts. But if Nao was happy… Not her life to manage. She looked away.
"Cake! Let's eat together!"
"You didn't have to buy any…."
"Bought it 'cause I wanted some. Ari, you too! Lisa, come on!"
Ari nodded at Nao's call. She'd gotten close to the office crew.
Her social circle had always been tiny—no daytime outings. Streamer friends? Online only, surface-level.
Rare meets meant paranoia about her identity.
The office? Total comfort zone.
"Oh, sis. Got tons of donations today? Business boomed outta nowhere."
"Y-yeah… Good for you…."
"I'm in such a good mood. Sis, pocket money! Take it!"
Nao casually pulled four 50,000-won bills from her wallet.
Mayuri stopped her. "N-no! Don't give me that! Put it back!"
"You bought me all those blood packs. Saved me a ton!"
She stuffed the bills into Mayuri's hand. Mayuri tried returning them, but Nao wouldn't budge.
Mayuri surrendered, pocketing them.
Weird. Giving this sis money felt good.
No wonder viewers spam donations. Never got it before.
Nao nodded to herself.
One thing she didn't know: Vampires had strict hierarchies.
They make kin via bloodsucking—sirer dominant, sires subservient. Not always, but often.
Nao was already bound to Mayuri. A clear master-vassal bond.
Seeing Mayuri as owner? Natural.
She hadn't realized it yet.
"Gotta be the base camp effect…."
I sighed at the bills in my wallet.
Lately, I'd felt it. Entities at bases found stuff—brought it to me.
Like sending waifu chars on fetch quests in a gacha mobile game.
Usually resources… but cash tributes? Awkward.
Is this even a horror game…?
Horror or gacha? Absurd, but the Cute Girl Mod had dating sim/gacha vibes from the start. Whatever.
Nao fell to it too—bound to me. Like Ari, Lisa, even prickly Taemi.
Slight attitude diffs, but all obedient deep down.
Nao no exception.
Guess we were in the same boat now. Lucky she was independent—streamer, self-sufficient. No babysitting needed.
Just top up blood packs sometimes? Better than live-ins like Ari and Lisa.
Office part-time gigs? Pay well, she'd visit often.
'Carnival Chef' has discovered an anomaly.
"Mayuri, there's a weird shop outside the window."
Lisa said it while cleaning the sill. I double-checked the system message.
Discovered an anomaly?
Curious, I joined her. A shop with no sign text, but a cylinder spinning round and round.
Barber pole? I just called it "that spinning salon thing."
Enter the salon alone and resolve the anomaly.
📍 Complete for a new base camp.
🎁 Must enter alone to challenge.
