And so, How to Ruin a Romantic Comedy has come to an end. After writing it for nearly two years, I have that bittersweet feeling of relief mixed with sadness.
I was so happy to receive so much love for this work. I even received fan art for the first time... The excitement I felt then still gets my heart racing when I think about it now. Thank you.
I can't deny it feels like I rushed the ending a bit, but I think the timing itself was right.
It seems best to explore the remaining elements in the side stories.
However, I'd like to take a short break before writing them. During that time, I'm debating whether to write the side stories for my previous magical girl series, work on the story I've only registered so far, or start a completely new project.
Regarding a new work, my heart, which recently only pounded for NTR and corruption stories, has started to react to pure love stories as well.
I suppose this is what they call "pure love corruption"... It's truly a shame.
So, while I want to write a pure love story, my favorite genre is still NTL (NTR), so I'm weighing my options.
If I do write one, it won't be as long as my previous or current works.
For a pure love story, I'd like to write something that isn't R-rated—something bubbly, sweet, and heartwarming.
I'm thinking of a pure love sports story with soccer, or a fantasy story using classic tropes like childhood friends or an arranged marriage.
On the other hand, if I were to write an NTL (NTR) story, I'm drawn to a high-intensity corruption story that is unimaginably immoral and spicy.
The reason I specifically added NTR in parentheses is that I plan to write in the third person, which means there will be a lot of focus on the perspective of the one being cuckolded.
Since I debuted with a wuxia novel, I've also considered writing another one.
But I'm not very good at it. ㅠ I guess you could say I lack that distinct, weighty, and stylish prose of the wuxia genre... It's sad.
I'm also thinking about a lighthearted harem or slice-of-life wuxia story.
I have so many novels I want to write.
But enough rambling. The side stories for How to Ruin a Romantic Comedy won't be a long, continuous narrative like the main story, but will likely be in an omnibus format.
However, just because it's an omnibus doesn't mean each story will be short.
It might be more accurate to call it picaresque rather than an omnibus.
The side story I want to write the most was inspired by a comment a reader left early in the series.
I thought it would be incredibly fun to write this from Miyuki's perspective, but with a slightly more mature tone... The idea was so good that I've wanted to write it ever since I saw the comment.
However, I'm not confident in my ability to write in the first-person female perspective and I'm quite clumsy with it, so I'm also considering writing it in the third person.
Besides that, I'm also thinking about a 5P story, an epilogue, and even conquest routes for the School Nurse, Ppangnyeo, Kana, each heroine's mother, and Tetsuya's family. But I'll have to think carefully about whether I'll write all of them.
I believe the side stories should match the tone of the main work, so I'll probably have to cut some of the ideas that might get too hardcore.
Lastly, I'm sharing an illustration that I intended to use as an insert but never got the chance to.
This is an illustration I commissioned when I came up with an episode about Hiyori dressing too lightly in the winter and Matsuda worrying about her. It's been sitting on the shelf for several months now.
I couldn't find the right timing to insert it, so it ended up being scrapped. I considered putting it in a side story, but since all the heroines' routes are complete, I decided it wouldn't fit. So, I'm posting it here instead.
