Chapter 686: A Ruthless Move
It was said that Chen Chaofa was extremely fond of Tang Siluo. During that period, every time Tang Siluo appeared in front of others, her neck was covered with heavy hickey marks, and she carried the lingering scent of pleasure on her body.
By the time Fatty finished speaking, An Ran—pulling her sled—had already reached the building where Tang Siluo lived. She took the elevator straight up and entered the apartment.
The door was open, and a doctor was already inside examining Tang Siluo. Zhao Ru was there as well.
Tang Siluo was still unconscious. Zhao Ru was holding a syringe, drawing medication from a vial and preparing to inject it into Tang Siluo.
An Ran stepped inside and glanced at the bottle. Human chorionic something… and beside it lay a small vial of progesterone. An Ran recognized both. Before the apocalypse, right after her divorce, her body had been affected by stress, causing one of her indicators to drop.
The doctor had feared she might miscarry, so she was given these two medications for two days.
In other words, these two drugs were what the industry called “fetal-protection injections.”
And Zhao Ru was giving Tang Siluo fetal-protection medication?! An Ran’s eyelid twitched. She said nothing and stepped back out of the room, silently observing.
Because of Tang Jianjun’s connections, Fatty had arranged for Tang Siluo to live alone in a nicely renovated two-bedroom apartment.
Everything inside looked very pleasant—if one ignored Zhang Boxun standing on the balcony smoking.
Before Tang Siluo woke up, Zhao Ru came out carrying her medical kit. She said a few words to the two doctor-like people still in the room and left, leaving them to monitor Tang Siluo.
An Ran, holding Doll and standing by the elevator with the sled, waited for Zhao Ru.
When Zhao Ru approached, An Ran pressed the elevator button.
She entered first, and once Zhao Ru stepped in after her, An Ran shot her a sidelong look, smirking with teasing intent: “Who was it earlier that said she’d stay out of Tang Siluo’s business? Didn’t you see that woman didn’t even want Doll in her stomach? Zhao Ru, Zhao Ru… you gave her fetal-protection medicine. Once she finds out, she’s going to tear you apart.”
“I didn’t do it for myself or out of spite.” Zhao Ru cast her a glance, her expression half amused, half serious. She explained: “If Doll in Tang Siluo’s belly belongs to Chen Chaofa, think about it yourself—how many future problems could be resolved using this child?”
Chen Chaofa was reportedly the late-born son of Old General Chen. A late-born son in an old family meant he would be treasured. And Chinese people placed heavy importance on lineage. If the Jinmen Base and the Yaoyang Base were heading toward a deadly conflict, as long as Chen Chaofa’s child was born, many things would become negotiable.
So Zhao Ru had given Tang Siluo fetal-protection medication without her permission—not to torment her, not because she disliked her, but because the child had to be born.
An Ran silently digested Zhao Ru’s reasoning.
After they exited the elevator, she placed Doll back onto the sled and pulled it along through the snow.
After walking for a while, An Ran finally spoke to the also-silent Zhao Ru: “When it comes to adults, I’m the last person who wants children involved.”
“But you also need to understand this—Tang Siluo’s baby got involved the moment it was conceived.”
Zhao Ru wasn’t being scheming. She was simply rational by nature. She knew clearly that with their current military strength, if Yaoyang Base went head-to-head with Jinmen Base without resorting to ruthless tactics, they would be nothing but fodder.
