Chapter 669: A Genius and a Madman
An Ran walked out with her arms folded, looked Fatty up and down, and said, “You’ve been eating well and sleeping well these days.”
Fatty was so frightened by her words that he nearly burst into tears. He immediately shrank his belly and explained how miserable he had been living.
“Injustice, Goddess, with you in there and your life uncertain, how would I dare eat well or sleep well?”
Flattering and swearing loyalty, his words poured out nonstop.
Seeing that An Ran did not respond, he quickly adjusted his expression and carefully said, “Goddess, among the two Yun Taos in there, one is definitely Chen Chaofa.”
“Maybe.”
“Since we’ve already locked the range down, it’s either the Yun Tao on the left or the Yun Tao on the right. Can we lift the ban now?”
“Release the others?” An Ran muttered the question to herself.
She glanced left and right. Every open door had people living inside. They had been confined there so she could identify Chen Chaofa.
Now that Chen Chaofa could only be one of the two Yun Taos, keeping the rest confined served no further purpose.
After thinking a moment, she nodded. “Fine. Let them out. Yun Tao stays here. Prepare two rooms for them.”
“Right away.”
Ever since the Flesh Flower returned, Fatty had been extremely deferential. Anything An Ran said, he executed without hesitation.
Soon, all survivors inside the Grand Fortune Hotel were cleared out. Some had survived by hiding well. Some had survived by sheer capability, killing their way to the end. Regardless of the reason, the moment they lined up to leave, none of them were the same people they once were.
Such was fate. The north had never suffered the siege of southern zombies. In the furnace of the apocalypse, they had survived by luck.
But fate always returned its due. One day, these people would be forced through bloodshed to earn the right to remain alive.
It was cruel, but only after enduring such cruelty would they have the capital to continue living in the apocalypse.
The survivors were placed in a separate area. They were already under control, so they could no longer kill each other. But since no one knew how many of them were still loyal to Chen Chaofa, they were temporarily not allowed to mingle with Fatty’s people.
Among Fatty’s soldiers were those skilled in investigation. They came every day to question a few people. The plan was to filter out all of Chen Chaofa’s remaining followers.
As long as Chen Chaofa remained alive, those followers would continue serving as his eyes and ears.
Surprisingly, this clumsy method still worked. Fatty indeed identified several of Chen Chaofa’s remnants.
From those remnants, they gained a general understanding of Chen Chaofa.
He was said to be an expert in behavioral studies, sociology, and psychology. He had also studied acting and mime. A pile of skills. A genius. But brilliance and madness were often separated by only a thin line.
He was extremely good at brainwashing people. He loved studying human nature, always analyzing a person’s behavior starting from tiny details.
Combined with ambiguous statements and perfect mimicry, even his own followers could not tell real from fake.
