Chapter 664: Human Nature’s Inherent Evil
An Ran shrugged and leaned against one of the palace-style lamps. It was as if she felt a bit helpless, as though embarrassed for her own child’s incompetence.
Before she finished speaking, green vines grew all over the men’s calves.
This was not the main body of Flesh Flower, only the root system that extended from its roots, and then extended again. All of them were just its descendants.
Yet even Flesh Flower’s mere descendants already had those men tied up so tightly they could not move. When they tried to turn around and run, they all tripped on a mass of intestine-like writhing roots.
An Ran stood not far away and asked coolly: “I will ask one more time. Before you die, I only want to know who Chen Chaofa is.”
The men clenched their jaws. Each of them looked like he was ready to die, covered in winding green vines. Many vines had already drilled into their skin, but they showed no fear at all.
It left An Ran without even the desire to torture them further.
“I know it is difficult, but you must hand over Chen Chaofa.” An Ran sat down on the low wooden meditation chair.
Behind her, a flower stem arched upward like a giant python, then slowly opened a Flesh Flower the size of a plate over her shoulder.
Inside the Flesh Flower, several fleshy shoots wriggled like polyps, inching toward the men who had fallen to the ground. Those men immediately clutched their heads and screamed.
Thin green mutated roots crawled through their bodies, climbing up from within. They passed through the chest cavity and up the spine, trying to enter their skulls, yet without absorbing them quickly into dried husks. It was a slow torment, making them wish for death.
“He went somewhere, we really don’t know, we don’t know” Someone could not endure anymore and rolled on the ground shouting.
An Ran was about to ask why, if they were all working with Chen Chaofa, they could possibly not know where he went.
But then she saw one of them pull a gun out of his pocket. An Ran’s eyes widened. Just as she was about to order the Flesh Flower’s descendants to protect Mint and Doll, the man lifted the gun to his own temple and with a bang shot himself.
His brain felt as if every nerve were being torn out of his body. Suicide was the only way to end such agony.
As soon as he died, another man screamed while writhing in pain: “What use is there for you to torment us here. So many people died, but it wasn’t Mr. Chen who killed them. We truly do not know where he went. If you want to kill us, then kill us. Why bother torturing us.”
So many people in the Grand Fortune Hotel indeed were not killed by Chen Chaofa. Neither he nor these few could have slaughtered so many within just two days.
If they had done anything at all in this massacre, it was only to collect information and stir up small conflicts. And even that was only at the beginning. Once those conflicts escalated and multiplied, they had nothing to do with Chen Chaofa anymore.
Human nature’s inherent evil is precisely this. Chen Chaofa merely used it slightly. With just a few words, conflicts could be provoked. The blame could only fall on these people, killers and victims alike, who were too quick to raise their blades at each other.
As for these few men, they were only following orders. Their superior told them to kill An Ran so that Chen Chaofa could disguise himself as her and leave. They were merely carrying out instructions.
