Chapter 652: Wood-Type Zombie
An Ran’s thoughts were similar to Zhao Ru’s—she also suspected that something extraordinary had appeared inside the Grand Fortune Hotel. When they were outside Xiang City before, the ordinary plants had lost contact with her because of the Flesh Flower’s dominance.
So perhaps it was the same this time. A powerful mutated plant might be growing somewhere inside the building at incredible speed, and under its oppressive presence, all the ordinary plants within the hotel had severed their link with her on their own.
That was a real problem. The Grand Fortune Hotel’s surveillance system had already been destroyed by Chen Chaofa. Now he couldn’t be found, and a new mutated plant might have emerged on top of that. One mess piling onto another—the situation was spiraling further out of control.
“I can’t see what’s happening outside anymore.”
An Ran shook her head weakly. Panic flickered across her pale face. The clear, three-dimensional image that usually existed in her mind was breaking apart like a jigsaw puzzle, piece by piece, until her world sank into darkness. Even the scene beyond the door was now a blind spot to her.
At this point, she didn’t even dare to manipulate her plants—if they went out of control, they might lash out wildly.
“An Ran, look! That woman outside!”
Liu Shasha rushed back to the peephole. An Ran stood and motioned for her to move aside. Through the tiny lens, she saw the woman who had collapsed earlier—the one who had died foaming at the mouth—now propping up her head, thick yellow mucus spilling from her lips as she slowly sat upright.
“She’s turned into a zombie,” An Ran said quietly, leaning against the doorframe. Her eyes were grim. “But not a normal one.”
“What kind then? Metal-type? Water-type?” Zhao Ru was already rolling up her sleeves; if it was water-type, she could handle it.
“Neither,” An Ran murmured, her face pale as paper. “She’s… wood-type. She’s affecting the ordinary plants outside.”
“What the hell does that mean?” Liu Shasha looked completely lost.
She had never even heard of such a thing. Back at the northern Yaoyang Base, there were no metal-type or water-type zombies—she hadn’t even known about the massive Flesh Flower that had nearly destroyed Xiang City.
So what on earth was a wood-type zombie? And how was it different from a normal one?
“Simply put, its influence is similar to that of a mutated plant,” An Ran explained, half to Zhao Ru and half to herself. To her, this wood-type zombie had the same suppressive effect on ordinary plants that a large mutated plant did. Under that suppression, normal vegetation refused to connect with her.
In other words, she had lost control over all of it.
The difference was that when a human mutated into a wood-type zombie, its dominance over plant life was immediate. Mutated plants, on the other hand, needed to grow and develop for a long time before they could reach that level of influence.
“It looks no different from an ordinary zombie,” Zhao Ru said after glancing through the peephole. She turned back to An Ran. “Are you sure you’re not mistaken?”
“I’m sure.” An Ran shook her head firmly.
Although the zombie outside appeared identical to any other, the moment it evolved, she knew exactly what it was. Just as she could instinctively sense the presence of mutated plants and identify their type—she just knew.
