Chapter 643: I Didn’t Kill Them
Yes, that’s right—killing really is addictive. Zhan Lian knew that feeling too well. Once Chen Chaofa reached that point, he wouldn’t care about betrayal anymore—he would simply enjoy the thrill of the kill. Principles would no longer restrain him.
Those few who suggested that everyone stay together in the lobby… who knew what their true intention was? By bundling everyone into one place, they had created the perfect stage.
Zhan Lian decided he might as well watch—watch how Chen Chaofa planned to kill a dozen regiment leaders under everyone’s gaze.
“Since all of us are here, shouldn’t you stay too?” someone in the hall suddenly questioned Zhan Lian.
Zhan Lian’s expression turned sharp. A cold smile appeared on his lips. He shrugged lightly and tugged up the zipper of his down jacket.
“We don’t mind staying. We’ll keep you company. But my wife and daughter are going back to the room to sleep.”
Without waiting for permission, he turned to take An Ran—who was holding the baby—back to the fifth-floor suite.
Just as An Ran, with the baby in her arms, reached the back of the teahouse and prepared to step into the elevator, she was stopped by the noise.
She thought the commotion had finally ended and she could go back to rest.
Then—
A sudden wave of screams tore through the crowd.
The dense crowd in the lobby parted like water, fear rippling outward. A man collapsed to the ground, clutching his abdomen as blood poured between his fingers.
“Who?! Who did it?!”
Someone shouted as they backed away.
The dying man turned his head, eyes wide, and raised a trembling finger—pointing straight at Jingxuan, who stood a few meters away. Then his eyes rolled back, breath caught in his throat, and he died—still staring at her.
“I—I—I didn’t!”
Jingxuan, dressed in a red dance gown with feathered hairpins, shook her head frantically, the feathers swaying. She glanced at those around her, who stood a meter or two away, and cried out, “I didn’t kill him! I didn’t! I really didn’t! Master Qi, you were beside me—you know I didn’t move! Ah Yu—Ah Yu, you were next to me too!”
But Master Qi and Ah Yu, like everyone else, instinctively stepped away from her.
Jingxuan’s eyes reddened with panic. She took two quick steps toward Ah Yu, desperate. “Ah Yu! You know me! I don’t even dare to kill a chicken—how could I kill a person?!”
“Who knows if Chen Chaofa is standing right next to you?!” Ah Yu panicked and backed away even faster.
Everyone knew Chen Chaofa was an ability-user. Rumors said he could turn invisible. The dying captain had pointed directly at Jingxuan—but what if it wasn’t her?
What if an invisible Chen Chaofa was standing beside her—guiding her hand—stabbing people without her even knowing?
That was why Ah Yu was terrified.
As one person retreated in fear and the other stepped forward to explain—A blood-curdling scream rang out again from the edge of the crowd.
Two more people crumpled to the ground—each with a single stab to the waist and abdomen, long, deep wounds carved across the soft flesh.
Another two dead.
