Chapter 641: Kill Them All
Zhan Lian’s instinct told him something about the goings-on in the Grand Fortune Hotel didn’t add up. He felt the situation slipping beyond his control, and since he now had a wife and a daughter, he was far less willing to take unnecessary risks.
“If I leave, things will only get more complicated,” An Ran said, shaking her head. “I’ll stay and keep watch over the hotel. I won’t be comfortable leaving you alone.”
“Okay. Take Zhan Anxin and Little Mint back to your room to sleep. I’ll handle this,” Zhan Lian replied, resigned.
The surveillance system in the monitoring room had been badly sabotaged—the power cut and several cameras destroyed. It looked as if Chen Chaofa was planning something major inside the mansion.
An Ran’s abilities were invaluable in moments like this.
Seeing the chaos on the first floor, she nodded, gathered Little Mint, and headed for the emergency stairwell.
Zhan Lian called out behind her, voice cold and fierce, “No one is allowed to leave. Anyone who forces their way out will be killed!”
He meant it. Both he and An Ran believed the killer was hiding among the Grand Fortune Hotel’s people; if the murderer slipped out, it would be a disaster—for Fatty, for the hotel, and for everyone inside.
“Why should we listen to you?” someone shouted.
“Are you accusing us of killing people? You’re all acting strange.”
“Fuck you,” another voice spat.
A scuffle erupted. A man rushed forward and hurled something toward An Ran and the baby. Zhan Lian swung up a metal plate to block it. The object proved to be a porcelain dish; the man who’d thrown it sputtered curses, then faltered.
Zhan Lian spun and, with lightning speed, flung the dish back. It struck the man in the face and knocked him out cold.
Silence fell over the crowd, as if they suddenly remembered that the attackers who had broken into the Grand Fortune Hotel’s were only two men—unarmed, and yet they had laid waste to the entire mansion.
Did they think sheer numbers would persuade Zhan Lian to let them go? What good would that do? The soldiers Chen Chaofa had dispatched had been unable to stop Zhan Lian and Luo Feifan. What hope did these weaklings in the hall have?
Realization spread through the room. No one dared cause trouble after that.
Someone sobbed, “We just want to get out of this damn place. Chen Chaofa’s gone mad—he kills anyone who betrays him.”
“That’s right. He told the captains to mobilize and stop you from rushing up, but we didn’t listen. After leaving the monitoring room, we all hid. Didn’t you see? Chen Chaofa only killed captains.”
“Anyone who shares a room with that captain will be slaughtered!”
