Chapter 568: Sitting at Home
Chapter 568: Sitting at Home
Liu Zhi’s younger brother, who had been influenced by Fatty, wasn’t really part of Fatty’s team. He only helped with peripheral defense. He knew very little, yet he kept talking up Fatty like a loyal fan.
Liu Zhi had countless questions, but her brother looked displeased, treating her as if she were a spy. He pressed his lips together and refused to answer.
So Liu Zhi could only investigate on her own.
Whether An Ran was a Wood-type ability user or not didn’t matter much to her. What she truly wanted to know was why An Ran was able to live in a house with electricity.
With that in mind, Liu Zhi asked directly. She had no intention of reporting An Ran to the tycoon, nor did she harbor other schemes.
“My husband used to be an electrician,” An Ran lied casually. Seeing Liu Zhi’s knowing expression, she thought to hurry and send her away.
But who would have expected Liu Zhi to light up and ask excitedly, "So your husband can build a windmill to generate electricity? Could he make one for my backyard?"
An Ran was struck speechless.
Liu Zhi went on eagerly, "I’ll pay in crystal cores. I have quite a few at home."
"Fine, fine. Come tomorrow and talk to my husband. He’s out right now," An Ran said before shutting the door.
What a hassle! She clearly wanted to stay out of sight, yet everyone seemed determined to focus on her.
She thought she had made her refusal clear enough. But who knew—by the next morning, Liu Zhi really did show up again, knocking at the door. As luck would have it, Zhan Lian opened it, and the two of them started talking right there in the entryway.
“This Liu Zhi’s family are locals of Yaoyang. Life hasn’t been easy for them either.” Fatty happened to be there that morning, delivering corn to An Ran. He stayed to eat breakfast. Watching the serious expression on An Ran’s face, he offered some advice. "I know what you’re thinking. You’re afraid of standing out and drawing attention. But think about it—we have to make a living. And if we can’t cover it up…”
“If we can’t cover it up, then if one comes, I’ll kill one. If two come, I’ll kill both!” An Ran gritted her teeth.
She tried to stay low-key, but her overwhelming aura only drew more eyes. Fine then—let’s see who could outdo whom.
Fatty fell silent. He lowered his head and shoveled rice into his mouth.
In truth, he’d been planning to discuss installing wind turbines for the Hexi villa compound with Zhan Lian, but after seeing An Ran’s reaction, he decided he’d better speak to Zhan Lian privately.
Before he realized it, Fatty had eaten eight bowls of millet porridge. Under the astonished gazes of An Ran and Zhao Ru, he finally wiped his mouth, stood up, and left the villa pretending he was full—even though his stomach was only half satisfied.
Outside, the snow was piled high. Fatty had to send teams of people out daily to clear the roads, or they would become completely impassable. Now they could only carve narrow paths through the drifts, with towering walls of snow on either side.
Not far along, he ran into Liu Zhi again. The deal she had just tried to strike with Zhan Lian had fallen through. Zhan Lian had only provided her with the materials for a windmill. If she wanted it built, she would have to find someone else to assemble it.
