Chapter 533: On the Road North
Chapter 533: On the Road North
Fatty, standing outside the RV window, immediately agrees, his face lighting up. “Great, great, An Ran! We can dig this tunnel even bigger. We’ll be the first generation of cavemen in the apocalypse!”
Zhan Lian, beside An Ran, pats her head affectionately. “Luo Feifan and I will scout ahead. You all start digging the tunnel a little and hide inside. Be careful.”
But the icy, snow-laden weather worsens by the day. It is impossible for Fatty and a handful of earth-type ability users to clear a tunnel this long in any short time. While removing the blockage, they also have to ensure the mountain remains stable—a complicated and dangerous task.
So Zhan Lian and Luo Feifan climb the mountain to investigate the survivors’ gathering place. If possible, they will guide Fatty’s team there, strengthening the friendships forged during the journey. After all, despite having countless water- and wood-type ability users, and even a few fire, earth, and metal-types, Fatty’s team remains a considerable burden.
The elderly need somewhere safe to settle, and many pregnant women are on the verge of giving birth. Zhao Ru has already assisted with several deliveries along the way, but the harsh conditions have led to premature births. Without proper medical equipment, the survival of these infants is precarious. Most live, resilient even in the apocalypse, but some tragically succumb to infection.
Running endlessly like nomads is no long-term solution. Humanity needs stable environments to survive, and entering larger human settlements is the logical way forward.
After consulting with An Ran, Zhan Lian packs a backpack with rations and water and sets out with Luo Feifan. They move quickly, vanishing from sight in moments.
Inside the RV, An Ran squeezes fresh orange juice into three small thermoses for Doll, Little Mint, and Hengheng. When she finishes, she steps outside to watch Fatty and his men begin digging the tunnel.
Two women approach nervously, hammers and hoes in hand. “An Ran, can we dig for crystal cores in the ground?”
Standing nearby to maintain security, Liang Ziyu lets out a muffled laugh. The men in Fatty’s group are already addicted to digging for crystal cores, but when it comes to the ground itself, Fatty’s word isn’t enough—they need An Ran’s permission.
After all, An Ran’s plants consume dangerous large organisms, leaving only a few manageable for ordinary people. Anything too dangerous to handle can always be reported in advance.
Observing the two women, An Ran tilts her head, sensing the underground conditions. She hasn’t planted any mutant plants in this soil, leaving only a few ordinary roots, frozen nearly to death.
If even the plants struggle in this harsh environment, the animals are worse off. Many mutant creatures have already gone into hibernation.
Curiously, the farther north they travel, the fewer mutated animals and plants they encounter. Not just large mutated species—even the number of surviving humans is increasing.
