Chapter 491: All Eaten by This carnivorous flower
An Ran parks the car and looks at the soldiers resting on the vines. She turns to Liang Ziyu and asks, “Are many of you injured?”
“A lot,” Liang Ziyu nods, a touch of sadness on his face. He shakes his head. “Several died. I’m a doctor, but I can’t handle it all.”
Just then, another car pulls up from the end of the road. Inside are Zhao Ru and Hengheng. She parks behind An Ran’s bulletproof car, opens the door, turns around, and runs to the back.
“I looted a few pharmacies. Liang Ziyu, find some people to help.”
Liang Ziyu smiles. Just as he says they need a doctor, Zhao Ru shows up—like summoning the devil by name.
He quickly calls a few soldiers who still have strength to help unload the medicine from the trunk.
An Ran carefully examines the wounded soldiers. They’re all in chemical protective suits, so their bodies are mostly covered, with no obvious skin breaks. Most have scrapes and bruises, and a few have bleeding wounds, likely sustained while fighting the vines.
She wonders whether those wounds might become infected.
After a while, the medical supplies are unloaded. An Ran plants another wood-type crystal core and controls the vines on the ground to keep growing forward, slowly covering the scorched area ahead.
The carnivorous flower that Luo Feifan burned leaves behind a fertile residue—perfect nutrients for plant growth.
An Ran calls Zhao Ru over to water the plants and continues forward, gradually reclaiming the living space once occupied by the carnivorous flower.
This eases some of the frontline soldiers’ fears that a few vines might sneak up behind them during battle.
Some time later, Doll in the car tears a perfectly fine picture book to shreds. Even tape won’t be enough to fix it. Then, bored, she tosses her toy, lets out a couple of howls, yawns, and dozes off in the car seat.
An Ran gets in the driver’s seat. Little Mint hands her a handful of crystal cores.
They’re ordinary cores, not wood-type.
An Ran asks curiously, “Where did you get all these?”
“I picked them up off the ground. There’s plenty.” Little Mint points to the ground.
There are more crystal cores beneath it than anyone could imagine. Back when Xiangcheng was full of zombies and Ability Users, countless of them went underground. But now, none remain.
They’ve all been eaten by this carnivorous flower.
Like all mutant plants, the carnivorous flower feeds only on flesh and blood, not crystal cores. So if you dig a bit, you’ll find plenty of abandoned cores.
An Ran immediately absorbs them all. Then she points at the swaying stamens in the sky and smiles.
“Come on, Mint. Let’s force it to death.”
As she speaks, a massive flying knife soars upward, spinning and slicing off a stamen in a single strike.
An Ran freezes—then she hears a howling roar from ahead, like a monster in pain. The remaining stamens tremble violently in the air.
The fleshy petals, resembling human tongues, curl up in layers, dripping with mucus. The ground beneath them begins to quake, shaking half the Star District.
