Chapter 48 Powdered Snow Mountain
Chapter 48 Powdered Snow Mountain
She walks to the edge of the flower basket, staring at it while feeling annoyed as she rubs her greasy, stinky hair. Looking at the wilted flowers in the basket fills her with disdain. Then, she crouches down and, in a fit of frustration, pulls out a drooping flower—a yellowing Powdered Snow Mountain—from the nutrient mud, ready to throw it on the ground and stomp on it.
But then she notices a bulging vein on the back of her hand and freezes.
There’s a swollen blue vein on her hand, covered in dirty blood—some might be her own, while others could be from zombies. She accidentally gets bloodied sometime while killing them. Since she has no water to wash, everything has mixed together, and she can’t tell which is her blood and which is the zombies'.
But that isn't the main concern. The critical issue is that the swollen vein on her hand looks very much like the ones on a zombie's forehead. Anran hurriedly grasps the Powdered Snow Mountain and rubs her forehead—there are no blue veins there. So where does this one on her hand come from?
Just as she was thinking this, the blue vein on her hand begins to throb painfully. This pain has actually been present all along without her noticing, similar to when she eats avocado that day, as if something is about to break through her skin.
Anran has been too exhausted these past few days to pay attention to the discomfort on her hand, so she doesn’t realize how serious it has become.
Is she turning into a zombie?
Fear grips her heart, and she sniffs, starting to rub the swollen vein with her other hand, mumbling nervously, “I can't turn into a zombie. I can't turn into a zombie. My daughter is so small; she can't survive without me. I can't, I can't. Go away, go away. Disappear, disappear. I don't want to become a zombie. Please, just disappear, you disappear, go away, I don't want to become a zombie, please go away, go away.”
As she rubs, the flower she has been holding in her hand begins to swell, as if it has absorbed moisture. Slowly, it starts to sprout roots; the previously wilted flower drops off, and a new bud emerges from the green leaves. In Anran's stunned gaze, a vibrant Powdered Snow Mountain blooms.
Meanwhile, the swollen blue vein on her hand gradually fades during this blooming process.
"Ah!!!"
She screams, startled, and drops the vibrant flower. Looking at the pile of zombie corpses around her, Anran quickly runs toward the blue light room. She stops in front of its door, turns anxiously, and returns to the flower basket to pick up the wilted flowers and the fresh Powdered Snow Mountain, stumbling back to Doll’s side.
The supplies in the lounge have already been organized. She has dealt with the last zombie on the fifth floor, and her pockets are filled with shiny diamonds, enough to bulge half a pocket. Additionally, she has collected a lot of cash and stuffed it into her large backpack.
The two children are sleeping—one in the baby carrier and the other in the fruit basket. With her large and small bags, she looks like a refugee ready to flee at any moment; all she needs to do is grab her backpack and the basket when it’s time to go.
