Chapter 474: You Murderer
Chapter 474: You Murderer
What Tang Jianjun accomplishes are things civilians like An Ran can never do—perhaps not even in a lifetime.
She thinks Tang Jianjun calls her in to entrust Tang Siluo to her care, but she is mistaken.
She only hears Tang Jianjun say, “Siluo, you… from now on, you must take care of yourself. Dad’s gone… take good care of the soldiers for me. And those old, weak, women and children… An Ran, I’ll leave them to you. I won’t let you take care of them for nothing. An Ran… Heaven will reward you, reward you...”
Tang Siluo to lead the soldiers, and An Ran to care for the old, weak, women and children?
Hearing these final words, An Ran frowns. But facing a dying man, she can’t reject him outright. As for the “reward” Tang Jianjun mentions—what could he possibly have left? Aside from the soldiers, what does he still possess? It’s just a lie to trick her.
“You all… don’t fight among yourselves. Remember… remember the survival plan. That’s the most important...”
As he says this, Tang Jianjun suddenly jerks up, letting out a zombie-like growl.
Zhang Boxun, eyes filled with tears, pulls Tang Siluo away and pins Tang Jianjun down. Amid Tang Siluo’s screaming, he raises his knife and ends Tang Jianjun’s life.
“Ah~~!!! Dad! Dad! Dad!!!” Tang Siluo, shoved to the ground, gets up crying and begins hitting Zhang Boxun. “You killed my dad! Zhang Boxun, you murderer! I hate you! I hate you!!!”
Zhang Boxun lets her hit him without resistance. He closes his eyes, and two hot tears roll down.
Everyone in the room, except An Ran—who appears cold—can’t hold back their tears.
Seeing Tang Siluo lose her mind like that, An Ran can’t bear it. She looks like someone deranged, blaming Zhang Boxun as if he truly murders her father.
How can she blame Zhang Boxun?
An Ran stands and leaves the room. Seeing Zhan Lian holding Doll at the door, she steps forward and embraces both him and the child.
“Let’s go. Tang Jianjun is gone.”
Another parting, another death. The more she sees, the stronger she becomes.
Afterward, with Tang Siluo still crying hysterically, everyone begins preparing Tang Jianjun’s funeral. In this strange society, they unanimously decide to cremate him. Luo Feifan stays behind to accompany him on his final journey.
Zhan Lian and Yun Tao find a vacant building for temporary shelter. Once the funeral is over, they plan to discuss with the troops how to eliminate the giant Mutant Flower in the residential area and supermarket.
The sky over Xiangcheng is unusually pale, and the weather grows colder by the day. Tang Jianjun is cremated on a gravel patch. Most of the survivors come out to send him off. A table is set, draped with a white cloth, his military uniform laid atop it, the medal on his chest shining.
Flames leap high as the surrounding soldiers salute in unison. Zhan Lian and Yun Tao, watching from a window, also raise their hands in salute.
There are tears, complaints, and sorrow.
In the living room, An Ran holds Doll, gently patting her to sleep. Little Mint sits on another sofa, expressionless, unmoved by Tang Jianjun’s death.
