Chapter 455: Make a Condition
Chapter 455: Make a Condition
But a life is a life. As long as Wang Wei still has breath, they can’t give up.
An Ran’s voice is cold and steady.
"I don’t know what will happen in the future. When I’m sure I can handle the mutant plants in Xiangcheng, I’ll go clean up my mess. But right now? I’m just a refugee like everyone else. I rely on a man to survive. I can’t even protect myself. You want me to be some selfless savior? I can’t."
She points to the sealed copper wall and says to Zhang Boxun:
"If you're only here to save people, I won’t kill you. But I think you're dangerous. I’m afraid you’ll threaten my daughter again. So, leave."
People with different ideals can’t walk the same path.
Earlier, in the chaos, everyone—those she likes and those she doesn’t—ends up in the bridal shop. Now that things have settled, it makes sense for An Ran to ask him to leave. In this kind of world, power determines everything.
Those mothers and children—some even younger than her own baby—are worthy of sympathy. If An Ran can simply wave her hand and make the plants go away, she would. But she can’t.
Zhang Boxun’s reasoning is: she can fight, so she should fight. But An Ran isn’t brave. She’s afraid. She won’t abandon her daughter to save someone else’s.
Women may be weak, but as mothers, they find strength. Those mothers out there should find ways to survive, just like An Ran does.
Zhang Boxun looks at her for a long moment, then lowers his gaze. He doesn’t leave. He simply says, "Then name your terms. I know you can do something. If you're willing to save them—whatever you ask, I’ll agree."
"I have nothing to offer. I can’t save them."
An Ran withdraws her hand, turns, and goes into the car without another word.
Zhan Lian shoves Zhang Boxun back against the copper wall. A door opens behind him. Zhang Boxun stumbles, still staring at the car An Ran has entered, and Zhan Lian pushes him out.
Next is Axe.
Once both are out, the bridal shop quiets.
Zhan Lian returns to discuss next steps with Luo Feifan and Yun Tao.
Outside, vines creep closer. Axe pulls Zhang Boxun aside.
"Boxun."
Zhang Boxun doesn’t respond. A copper wall grows up behind him, blocking the vines. Then he steps forward and slams both fists against the wall.
"An Ran! An Ran, come out! Come with me to save them! An Ran!"
"Boxun! Calm down!" Axe grabs him.
Zhang Boxun shakes him off and keeps pounding, shouting An Ran’s name again and again.
