Chapter 362: I Want to Find Zhan Lian
Chapter 362: I Want to Find Zhan Lian
Although she agrees with Tang Jianjun, she’s not stupid. Tang Jianjun might not tie her up, but if she retreats under his men’s escort, how is that any different from falling into his hands?
She must retreat—but why should she do it with Tang Jianjun's people?
She hurries down the tower and runs into Yun Tao, who is looking for her.
Yun Tao glances at the military vehicles surrounding the tower. He doesn’t notice them before, but after a few more arrive and soldiers begin heading up the tower, he rushes over, worried they might be trying to take An Ran away.
Seeing An Ran coming down by herself, he quickly leads her out of the range of the military vehicles, glances down at Doll, and asks, “Are you okay? Something happened in Tiesi Village. We have to leave, now.”
The news has already spread through Tiesi Village. Many survivors have jumped out of their cars and fled on foot. They’re all saying a group of copper-skinned zombies is approaching from the north, so most people are now retreating toward Xiangcheng.
Among the military vehicles sent to pick up Tang Jianjun, one heads toward the county seat—probably to deliver a message to the people over there. The rest, carrying Tang Jianjun, hurry back into Tiesi Village to prepare for evacuation.
“Brother Tao, I want to find Zhan Lian.”
An Ran glances at Tang Jianjun, who’s just come down and is already leaving under military escort. She sighs, then turns back to Yun Tao.
“Listen to me. There are too many copper-skinned zombies for me to handle. But if I can find some tough plants, I think I can try eating those mutated cats and rats.”
The world is just too chaotic right now. If she runs off and leaves Zhan Lian behind, there’s no telling whether they’ll ever see each other again.
She… even though she divorces Zhan Lian and no longer has any relationship with him, he helps her a lot. She can’t just leave without saying anything.
That’s not how a person should be. She can’t just walk away from him like this. She can't convince herself to do that.
Besides, everyone is fleeing toward Xiangcheng. The copper-skinned zombies will surely follow the crowd. An Ran and her group have children with them. If Zhao Ru tags along—and brings Zhao Qianrong too—then they’re just a group of old, weak, women and children. If they don’t accept Tang Jianjun’s protection, they’ll definitely be abandoned by him.
So An Ran figures it’s better to take another path. If everyone else is heading to Xiangcheng, she’ll go find Zhan Lian instead. Didn’t he say he’s going to Hubei? Hubei must be a good place.
Anyway, she’s just coming up with every excuse to go find Zhan Lian.
Yun Tao thinks for a moment, nods, and asks, “If you can find a tough plant, you think you can handle those mutant cats and mice?”
“It’s not guaranteed. But it’s worth a try.”
“Okay. Wait here.”
Yun Tao turns and grabs a small ceramic flower pot from a house beside the roadblock. Inside is a tiny spherical cactus—the kind people used to keep beside their computers to absorb radiation, back before the apocalypse.
“It’s still alive,” An Ran says with a smile, taking the cactus from him.
Just then, Zhao Ru walks over, and An Ran says, “We found a secret weapon. We’re going to pick up Zhan Lian. You and Tang Jianjun should retreat together.”
“Retreat where? Xiangcheng?” Zhao Ru curls her lips and glances toward the county town, where a few vehicles are now arriving. She turns to An Ran and says, “Don’t bother going to look for your ex-husband. He’s back.”
