Chapter 333: No One Can Believe It
Chapter 333: No One Can Believe It
In the breeze, Zhan Lian seems to sense An Ran’s gaze. He tilts his head, still holding the infrared telescope in his hand, but his eyes are now on her. With a wink, he lowers the telescope, turns around, and jumps off the roof of the car. He walks toward An Ran.
"What's wrong?" Zhan Lian stands in front of An Ran and looks down at her. "Do you have something to say to me?"
"Dr. Zhao and the doctor who is supposed to perform the surgery—haven't they arrived yet?"
An Ran hesitates for a moment before stepping back. Zhan Lian has gotten too close for comfort, and An Ran feels a bit uneasy.
It isn’t that she isn’t used to it, but it’s uncomfortable and a little embarrassing.
Zhan Lian doesn’t notice An Ran’s discomfort. He frowns and explains, "Doctor Zhao’s legs are a little inconvenient. Let’s first confirm the hospital. Luo Feifan’s people are going to pick up Doctor Zhao. If there’s any danger on the way, it could cause trouble for her."
"Oh," An Ran nods, then thinks back to her experience at the hospital. She turns to Zhan Lian. "The hospital probably has no electricity right now. The power outage has been going on for quite some time."
"So we need to find a generator," Zhan Lian responds, his chest rising and falling as if in frustration. He looks at An Ran as if he wants to ask how she has managed to return to Yangguang Lake Community from the hospital with her child alone. However, he never dares to ask her about her experience at the hospital. No matter what An Ran says, Zhan Lian will be filled with regret and guilt, and it will drive him to despair.
An Ran, on the other hand, isn’t as emotionally affected. She feels her experience has settled down with time, and she has nothing more to say about it. Right now, she is just focused on figuring out how to get to the hospital, find a generator, and restore power. Of course, An Ran doesn’t understand the complexities of electrical systems. She assumes Zhan Lian will know what to do, so she doesn’t press him further. Instead, she glances at the men who are moving the oil drums and asks Zhan Lian, "Will these people go to the hospital with us?"
"They’ll take some supplies back first." Zhan Lian follows An Ran’s gaze and turns to look at the men moving the oil drums. His sharp eyes show his vigilance. He then looks back at An Ran and whispers, "Besides me and your brother Tao, there’s no one here you can fully trust. An Ran, there will be a time when I can’t take care of you. When that happens, don’t trust anyone’s words."
"Ah?" An Ran’s heart sinks at Zhan Lian’s words. She looks at him in confusion. "What’s going on? Is it serious?"
"Not too serious," Zhan Lian replies, though he isn’t sure how to explain the situation to An Ran. She needs to hide her wood ability, but even if she doesn’t, Tang Jianjun has already set his sights on both An Ran and Zhan Anxin in order to keep Zhan Lian under control.
As they leave Tiesi Village, the team is split into several groups: Zhang Boxun leads one, Luo Feifan leads another, Zhan Lian leads his own, and a fourth is led by the man surnamed Lei from the third district. This man has been getting closer and closer to Tang Siluo and knows how to align himself with others.
The man has recognized that Tang Jianjun wants the survivor teams to go out and search for supplies, so he has voluntarily sent most of his team out to do just that. He cooperates with Tang Jianjun in every way, even echoing some of Tang Jianjun’s slogans in his actions. Now, he has become one of Tang Siluo’s most trusted subordinates and is gradually gaining favor with Tang Jianjun as well.
