Chapter 326: I Won’t Tell You
Chapter 326: I Won’t Tell You
The zombies in the county are as dense as water in a filled tank—completely overwhelming.
It’s better if Zhan Lian goes in with a small, elite team, grabs the medicine and surgical equipment, and comes back quickly.
In the dim light, Doll whimpers in An Ran’s arms, her little head nudging toward An Ran’s chest, seeking to breastfeed. But with Zhan Lian still in the room, An Ran feels too embarrassed to lift her clothes. She just wants to finish the conversation quickly so he’ll leave.
Zhan Lian has been lying comfortably, but after hearing what An Ran says, he gets up from the bed and sits behind her. Staring at the back of her neck, he whispers, “Tiesi Village isn’t safe. After the trip to the county, we’re not going back there.”
An Ran turns her head sharply, a flicker of surprise in her eyes. She pauses, then asks, “Why?”
“Why do you think?” Zhan Lian’s eyes glint playfully. He lies back down on the bed, places his hands behind his head, and stares at her, lips pressed together, saying nothing.
That look makes An Ran’s heart skip a beat. Her face pales slightly.
“You… do you know something?”
“Know what?” Zhan Lian replies vaguely, still looking at her like he’s toying with her. “What should I know?”
“You!” An Ran grows annoyed. She lifts Doll, who’s still fussing at her chest, into a more upright position, stands up, and glares at him. “Just tell me what you know. Do you know that I’m a wood-type ability user?”
At this point, she can probably be considered one.
Zhan Lian doesn’t answer. He half-lies on the bed, hands still behind his head.
“When did you find out?”
His posture leaves no room for doubt—An Ran is sure he already knows.
Zhan Lian finally sits up, crosses his legs on the bed, looks at Doll humming in An Ran’s arms, and sighs. Then he stands up and walks over to her. Before An Ran can react, he suddenly leans down, bends close to her ear, and whispers, “I won’t tell you.”
Then, with a shameless laugh, he turns, circles around her and Doll, opens the door, and walks out.
He originally plans to stay the night in An Ran’s room, but seeing Doll’s persistent fussing—and knowing An Ran hasn’t fed her because of his presence—he feels guilty. This is his own daughter, hungry, and Zhan Lian can’t bear it. So he leaves, but not before teasing An Ran one last time.
An Ran is irritated. She glares after him and doesn’t sit down again until the door closes. Then she lifts her clothes and begins to nurse Doll.
Her mind wanders back to the wood-type ability user from earlier today—the one who was apparently reported by her husband and taken away by Tang Jianjun’s people.
Then she thinks of Zhan Lian again.
She doesn’t know why, but deep down, she’s certain—Zhan Lian wouldn’t report her.
That certainty likely comes from some inexplicable trust she has in him.
Since Zhan Lian has no reason to trade her for power or gain, she doesn’t feel the need to explain herself to him.
Even though she can make plants and trees grow, the world’s understanding of wood-type ability is still far removed from what she can do. Zhan Lian doesn’t rely on her to grow vegetables, rice, or fruit to survive. Besides, he seems to enjoy provoking her—so why should she bother explaining anything to him?
