Chapter 279: Gossip
Chapter 279: Gossip
While smoking, Zhan Lian makes a few calls, asking for details about Yun Tao being taken away after going to kill zombies.
He listens quietly.
He doesn’t feel much when he hears that Tang Siluo wanted to kill Yun Tao. But when he finds out that she argued with Anran in front of so many people, his anger flares.
His expression darkens. With a wave of his hand, he dismisses the people around him, his dislike for Tang Siluo growing more and more obvious.
Without another word, he strides across the highway toward the gas station.
He doesn’t bother greeting Tang Siluo.
Instead, he grabs someone nearby and demands, "Where is Yun Tao locked up?"
At that moment, Tang Siluo happens to come down from the second floor, flanked by a few men. She spots Zhan Lian and is about to explain that she detained Yun Tao but didn’t kill him because Anran wouldn’t allow it.
Before she can speak—
Zhan Lian, standing tall with a cold and imposing presence, lifts a hand and gestures.
"Come here."
Tang Siluo brightens and hurries over, calling out, "Brother Lian, I—"
"Can you stop meddling in other people’s business? Can you?!" Zhan Lian’s voice explodes with fury, cutting her off completely.
All the frustration, the distance between him and his wife, the pain Anran has inflicted on him—he vents it all onto Tang Siluo.
"Do you have any shame, sister?" His tone drips with sarcasm. "If you have so much free time, go find your Luo Feifan! Why are you wasting your energy on me? You keep sticking your nose in my family affairs—gossip!"
The moment the word gossip leaves his lips, Tang Siluo's face goes pale.
She was born into a wealthy family, pampered from childhood. Even when she argued with others, it was through cold wars, never open confrontations. She has never been scolded like this in her life.
Even after the world collapsed, when those around her turned into zombies, at least zombies didn’t curse.
Later, Luo Feifan protected her all the way to Tiesi Village, where he became the manager of the District 3. People admired and flattered her there.
But now—now, for the first time, she is facing Zhan Lian’s unrestrained, cutting anger.
And that word—gossip—stabs her straight through the heart.
She thought she had done something good. She thought she was handling things in a way that would please both Zhan Lian and Luo Feifan.
Yet in the end, she is dismissed as nothing more than a gossip.
Tears well up in her eyes and spill down her cheeks.
She feels utterly wronged.
Hasn’t she been doing the right thing? Catching criminals, killing scum—why is she being treated like this?
"I… I just wanted to help. Brother Tao bullied my sister-in-law like that—"
"Are you blind? Or just deaf?!" Zhan Lian is so furious he nearly kicks her. "I told you what He Xiaomei said wasn’t true! If you hadn’t meddled today, would my wife be treating me like this?! Get out of my sight! You piss me off just by standing there! Don’t ever show your face in front of me again!"
His patience has completely run out.
He stares at Tang Siluo, her fragile and pitiful expression doing nothing to move him.
He has no time for this. He hates wasting time with women.
His patience is already stretched thin, and he feels like he has spent every last ounce of it on Anran. Anyone else nagging him? It’s unbearable.
Zhan Lian doesn’t bother with any more words. He turns around and storms toward the room where Yun Tao and Hengheng are locked up.
