Chapter 275: I Don’t Want to Do It Anymore
Chapter 275: I Don’t Want to Do It Anymore
Standing before the square-faced man is Zhou Xiang, while the man himself is Lei Jiang—the one who led a group of survivors safely into Tiesi Village about a week ago.
"Brother, what should we do now?"
"I never expected that this mobile granary would turn out to be Zhan Lian’s ex-wife." Lei Jiang lowers his gaze, his fingers rhythmically tapping against the armrests of his chair. A slow, deliberate smile creeps onto his face. "Tiesi Village is a good place—news spreads fast, there are plenty of people, and even more people willing to get things done."
After arriving in Tiesi Village, Lei Jiang quickly realizes that what they once thought was absolute power back in Xiangcheng means nothing here. In Tiesi Village, they are just another group of survivors among many. The power dynamics are complicated, and even within the fourth district, multiple factions vie for control.
Many had believed that upon reaching Tiesi Village, they would find government aid, rescue teams, and even the restoration of civilized society.
Instead, they discover that the true chaos is only just beginning.
Tang Jianjun, the supposed leader of Tiesi Village, is a soldier—but his forces are limited. The village is filled with various survivor groups, none of whom are willing to submit to each other. Conflicts break out daily, and the entire village is a mess.
In the end, it all comes down to who has the strongest fists.
Zhan Lian secures his position as captain of the fourth district’s guard team through sheer strength. His superpower—metal-type abilities—is rare, even within Tiesi Village. There are only a handful of metal-type superhumans, and even fewer among the military personnel who can be relied upon.
Currently, the four district captains consist of two metal-type superhumans and one fire-type superhuman, all of whom come from military backgrounds. The last position has been temporarily taken over by Tang Siluo, Tang Jianjun’s own daughter.
As for Lei Jiang, his earth-based abilities have helped him rise in prominence within Tiesi Village. He hopes to earn a place under Tang Jianjun’s command, but having never been a soldier before the apocalypse, he knows that no matter how much Tang Jianjun values his abilities, he will never be truly trusted.
Still, what he has is enough.
The District 3—where Tang Siluo serves as captain—is primarily occupied by the elderly, the weak, women, and children. It has the smallest survivor population, which makes it easy for Lei Jiang to establish dominance there.
And now, he has a plan.
Since Anran has divorced Zhan Lian and now has a seemingly ambiguous relationship with Yun Tao, Zhan Lian likely won’t care about her anymore.
If he can get Tang Siluo’s support, he can bring Anran into the District 3.
Once that happens, wouldn’t this "mobile granary" be under his control?
As for what happens in the future—whether Tiesi Village survives or collapses—that is a problem for another time.
For now, as long as Anran is within his grasp, Lei Jiang has no intention of ever letting her slip away again.
Outside the barrier, Zhan Lian strikes down the last zombie, shaking the blood off his fist before retracting the barbs from his fingers. He turns his head toward Luo Feifan, who stands not far away, and orders,
"Have someone clean up the battlefield. I’m heading back."
"Ah Lian, wait a minute." Luo Feifan hands off his current task to a nearby subordinate and quickly catches up with Zhan Lian, clapping a bloodied hand onto his shoulder. "That Yun Tao and Anran... I don’t think they’re in any trouble. Yun Tao seems pretty decent."
"Decent?" Zhan Lian shrugs off Luo Feifan’s hand with a sharp movement, his expression darkening. He clearly has no interest in discussing Yun Tao. Instead, his voice is cold and firm as he says, "Go back and tell your childhood sweetheart’s father—I don’t want to be the captain of the fourth district anymore. Tell him to find someone else to take over."
