Chapter 267: He Is Still Alive
Chapter 267: He Is Still Alive
"Oh my god, please stop. I’m begging you, alright? Just stop!" Luo Feifan groans, rubbing his temples in frustration. "You don’t understand anything, so don’t get involved. I don’t have the energy to explain. It’s exhausting!" He is practically pleading with Tang Siluo at this point. He is drained—mentally and emotionally.
He and Tang Siluo have known each other since they were young, but their relationship has always been lukewarm. If it weren’t for the fact that she always finds an excuse to poke at him whenever he returns home from his unit, Luo Feifan might not even remember her face.
The only reason he brought Tang Siluo from the eastern base to Tiesi Village is that she is the last familiar face from his hometown.
Familiar, but not familiar enough for him to share Zhan Lian’s personal matters with her. And yet, here she is, treating it like public gossip, announcing it to everyone like a town crier.
Before Luo Feifan can say anything else, Zhan Lian suddenly rushes out of the watchtower behind him.
Luo Feifan reacts instantly, grabbing Zhan Lian’s arm to stop him. His voice is tense.
"Ah Lian, where are you going?"
"Let go!" Zhan Lian roars, shaking him off. He storms off like a force of nature, moving against the wind with the sheer momentum of someone ready to kill.
Luo Feifan’s stomach drops. This isn’t good.
Sensing trouble, he immediately takes off after Zhan Lian. Behind him, Tang Siluo hesitates, then quickly signals to a few gunmen before following.
The three of them run past rows of survivor vehicles, weaving through the convoy’s rear section.
Anran is circling the car with Doll in her arms, trying to avoid Zhao Ru, who keeps pestering her to hold the child. Nearby, Liang Ziyu has found a man and a woman to join in a game of cards with Yun Tao.
Yun Tao, however, is making excuses to get out of it.
Little Mint and Hengheng remain inside the car, guarding the supplies. It is scorching hot, and with the air conditioning off to conserve fuel, the car windows are left open.
Annoyed by Zhao Ru’s persistence, Anran turns to move away—
And crashes straight into someone.
She frowns and instinctively steps back, tightening her grip on Doll as she looks up.
Her breath catches in her throat.
Standing before her, blocking her path like a solid wall, is none other than her ex-husband—Zhan Lian.
A man she divorced a year ago.
Zhan Lian?!
He is still alive?!
On the other side of the car, Yun Tao, who has been in the middle of refusing a card game, suddenly turns around. Liang Ziyu and the others also pause, all eyes shifting toward the man in military camouflage pants, a green short-sleeved T-shirt, and a black skull-patterned headscarf.
His expression is murderous.
And his eyes are locked onto Anran.
Yun Tao’s brows knit together. This man looks oddly familiar…
Realizing Anran is frozen in place, Yun Tao quickly steps forward, whispering, "Excuse me, please." Then he reaches for Anran, intending to pull her aside so she won’t block the path of this soldier.
Hadn't Zhao Ru just mentioned that in Tiesi Village, soldiers, doctors, and nurses hold the highest status?
Liang Ziyu and the others follow suit, some pulling out cigarettes, others chuckling, ready to smooth things over with a peace offering.
But instead of responding, Zhan Lian erupts in fury.
In a flash, he draws a knife and slashes toward Yun Tao’s hand—the one gripping Anran’s arm.
Yun Tao has no choice but to release her and dodge the blade.
Just as he is about to demand an explanation from this soldier, he hears Zhan Lian roar,
"Shut up! Stop f***ing trying to make yourself relevant!"
