Chapter 202: Annoyed by a Diaper
Chapter 202: Annoyed by a Diaper
Anran has never taken care of a child before, but even without experience, she knows that a baby can't be left naked. Regardless of the weather, Doll is barely over a month old and has no control over when she poops or pees.
Just imagine—if Anran had Doll wrapped in a sling while fighting zombies, and Doll suddenly needed to relieve herself, what would she do? Stop fighting and change Doll? Or let Doll soil the sling, dry it in the sun, and keep running around in the apocalypse with a dirty cloth?
No, no, no. Anran may be able to tolerate filth in extreme situations, but a baby’s immune system is weak. She still wants to keep Doll as clean as possible.
Besides, Doll has worn diapers since birth. If she suddenly had none and wet herself while they are running for their lives, it would feel uncomfortable. And the moment Doll gets uncomfortable, she cries. Loudly. A pacifier wouldn’t be enough to stop the wailing, and that would be a huge problem.
With this in mind, Anran leaves Little Mint at the counter and carries the bare-bottomed baby to the clothing store’s warehouse, searching for something to break through the wall.
After searching the small storage space, she doesn’t find anything sharp—but she does find a ladder!
Holding Doll in one arm and the ladder in the other, she steps out from behind the counter. The lilies outside have turned into ordinary flowers again, but when they sense her presence, they lean toward her as if trying to curry favor.
Already irritated about the diaper situation, Anran kicks the lilies blocking her path. Her powers flare, sending a wave of energy that makes the lilies instinctively shrink away, bowing to the sides and clearing a path for her.
Seeing this, an idea strikes her. She glances at the road ahead, where white bones and green flower stems litter the ground.
Turning back, she nods at Little Mint, signaling her to come over. "Come here. Don’t be afraid—These flowers won’t hurt you now.”
She isn’t sure why the lilies won’t attack Little Mint, but she has a feeling that if she commands them not to, they will obey.
The lilies reach up to her waist as Little Mint bends down to pick up a crystal core from the ground. Without hesitation, she listens to Anran’s words, stepping into the field of flowers without fear. She quickly catches up to her, grabbing the hem of her clothes with her thin fingers, her expression full of trust and attachment.
That innocent trust makes Anran’s heart ache a little.
With Little Mint’s help, she feels slightly less exhausted. She hands Doll to her, then sets up the ladder against the flower wall. Climbing up, she measures whether she can reach the second floor from there.
Unfortunately, it is just a little too short. If she could raise the ladder by even a bit, she could climb up.
Well, that is an easy fix. She just needs to build some high ground.
Without hesitation, Anran climbs onto the flower wall, straddling it. Below her, zombies crowd around—dense clusters of black-haired heads, with the occasional blond or white-haired one mixed in. They wander aimlessly beneath her feet, trapped outside the flower wall.
