Chapter 198: I Don’t Want to Be a Burden to Anran
Since Anran’s ability only covers a two-square-meter radius, it is impossible for her to clear out all the zombies in the clothing store at once. The store itself is at least twenty square meters, far beyond her current reach. However, one advantage of the clothing store is that it isn’t an open space.
There are two fitting rooms, and even if the flower walls extend beyond her immediate range, they remain sturdy enough to provide some protection. Moving a little further to the side, she reaches the store’s warehouse. In front of it, on the left, is a wooden counter—something she can use as a temporary barrier against the zombies.
With this setup, their safe zone expands by several square meters.
Holding Doll, Anran steadily advances, clearing zombies as she goes. Soon, she builds another flower-and-bone wall outside the warehouse, connecting it seamlessly with the one outside the fitting rooms.
Little Mint follows at a safe distance, stepping carefully into the ordinary flower field while helping Anran collect crystal cores.
If anyone else saw Anran’s lilies devouring zombies, they would hesitate before stepping into the flower field. But not Little Mint.
She doesn’t overthink it. Anran tells her she can enter, so she does.
Following Anran’s instructions, she stays two meters away, squatting in the flowers, using her small hands to pick crystal cores from the remains, and searching for any leftover food among the bones.
It is clear that Little Mint is trying her best to take care of herself—to avoid being a burden to Anran.
Before long, the three of them make it behind the counter, using the flower wall to forcibly carve out a safe zone from the zombie-infested store.
Fighting for territory against zombies is no easy task.
Anran doesn’t plant flowers inside the counter space—only spreading a thin layer of lilies over the top to prevent zombies from climbing over.
Finally, she sits down on the floor and notices a high chair nearby. Carefully, she places the sleeping baby on it, making sure she won’t fall. With a sigh, she turns to Little Mint, who is standing beside the counter, using a makeshift clothing fork to poke at the crystal cores embedded in the flower wall.
"Take a break," Anran says. "You’ve been working hard for a long time."
Little Mint obediently puts away the makeshift clothing fork and hands Anran a handful of crystal cores she has collected. Then, she reaches into her pockets and takes out every last core she has stored, offering them all to Anran without keeping a single one for herself.
The pile is larger than Anran expects. As she catches the cores with both hands, a few slip through her fingers and scatter onto the floor.
She wonders—how many zombies has she killed like this?
In a single day, she has likely killed more zombies with her flowers than she did during her entire time at the hospital, when she relied on knives to fight.
With so many crystal cores in hand, she can afford to rest for a while. But oddly enough, she doesn’t feel tired at all. While Little Mint is clearly exhausted, Anran remains full of energy.
She puts away the cores, then stands up and guides Little Mint to sit beside the high chair, making sure she can watch over Doll.
Now that she has a moment, she heads into the warehouse to find a change of clothes.
Her clothes are drenched in sweat. Meanwhile, Little Mint is only wearing a pullover—no pants.
Anran, having grown up in a civilized world, can’t just ignore a warehouse full of clothes when they need them. What kind of idiot wouldn’t use the resources right in front of them?
Inside, she finds stacks of neatly packaged men’s clothing—shirts and pants sealed in plastic bags, categorized and arranged on shelves.
Author’s Note:
Still, there was a long way to go before things settled down.
Before the male lead even appeared, there was already so much happening.
