Chapter 179: Why Are We Packing This?
Chapter 179: Why Are We Packing This?
The underground supermarket has several entrances and exits, but there is only one way to get upstairs—the escalator connecting the underground first floor to the ground level. With the wall on the brink of collapse, Anran estimates that all the supermarket’s exits are now funneling zombies toward this direction.
She quickly directs Liu Yuan to take care of Yun Tao. Liu Yuan nods and immediately begins carrying Yun Tao toward the escalator. As she glances up, she sees that the escalator is eerily quiet—no sign of anyone nearby. It seems safe, so she proceeds to carry Yun Tao up.
Liu Yuan places Yun Tao on the escalator, scans the surroundings for any danger, and then returns to the ground floor. She grabs the shopping cart filled by the little girl, quickly pushes it toward the escalator, and hurries back upstairs.
The pickup truck stuck in the wall has been pushed back by the zombies outside, creating larger cracks in the wall. It seems the structure won’t hold much longer. The wall has been hollowed out by merchants, either with windows or billboards embedded in it, making it weak and fragile.
Anran packs another cart full of supplies and pushes it to Liu Yuan. Liu Yuan takes it, turns around, and sends it upstairs. Anran quickly moves on to the next cart, working quickly. The little girl and Heng Heng are helping too, racing against the zombies. The more supplies they gather, the longer they can survive here.
As the pickup truck is about to be pushed into the supermarket by the zombies, the cracks in the wall grow larger. Anran smells gasoline in the air—has the fuel tank of the truck ruptured?
Suddenly, a thought strikes her. She grabs Doll, the little girl, and Heng Heng and leads them to the grain and oil section. She directs the children to load cooking oil into the shopping cart—peanut oil, olive oil, everything on the shelves. She even grabs several bottles of expensive imported cooking oil in glass containers. Once the cart is filled, Anran moves to the wine section.
Liu Yuan, having already moved all the shopping carts to the second floor, comes rushing over to help. She quickly begins tossing various high-end red and white wines into another shopping cart.
"Anran, what are we packing all this for?” Liu Yuan, busy as ever, asks in confusion.
Anran doesn’t have time to explain. She adjusts Doll in the sling, who is peacefully sucking on a pacifier, and continues gathering supplies. Then, she rushes over to the high-end cigarette counter. She rummages through the shelves, grabbing several lighters before returning to Liu Yuan.
"Sister Yuan, Heng Heng, bring the oil and wine over here," she calls as she dashes back.
Liu Yuan leads the way, pushing the cart full of high-end liquor, while Heng Heng follows with another cart filled with red wine and beer. Anran glances at the white wine—Moutai!
(Translator’s Notes: Moutai is a famous Chinese liquor, specifically a type of baijiu, which is a traditional Chinese distilled spirit. It originates from the town of Maotai in the Guizhou Province of China. Moutai is considered one of the finest and most prestigious liquors in China and is often regarded as the "national liquor.")
Raising the bottle, she tosses it at the pickup truck, which is now almost entirely pushed into the wall. She then tells Liu Yuan, “Throw the alcohol, burn them!”
Liu Yuan hesitates for a moment but then sees An Ran already tossing several bottles of wine at the truck’s front while holding the baby. She quickly follows suit, throwing bottles of Wuliangye and liquor at the truck.
After throwing the white wine, they throw red wine, then beer.
The alcohol splashes across the truck, and the fumes begin to rise.
(Translator’s Notes: Wuliangye is another famous Chinese liquor, also a type of baijiu, similar to Moutai. It is produced in the Yibin region of Sichuan Province, China, and is one of the most popular and prestigious baijiu brands in the country.)
