Chapter 169: The Man with the Pirate Headscarf
Chapter 169: The Man with the Pirate Headscarf
The food is delivered, and it’s surprisingly abundant—various cooked dishes, biscuits, and mineral water. Anran and the others aren’t treated poorly in terms of rations.
Without hesitation, Anran tears open a packet of biscuits and begins eating, cramming the food into her mouth like she’s starving.
Watching her, Yun Tao and Liu Yuan exchange worried glances.
Outside, the gas station is surrounded by layers of guards. By evening, the dormitory next door erupts in chaos. The sound of a young girl’s desperate screams echoes through the night, blending with the mocking laughter and teasing voices of men. The rowdiness next door turns the entire floor unsettlingly "lively."
By contrast, Anran’s dormitory is oppressively quiet.
The girl’s screams ring out again, and this time, Anran’s appetite vanishes entirely. She retreats to a corner, curling up with her baby in her arms. Yun Tao sits on the edge of the bed, fists clenched tightly, his head bowed. His face is dark with rage and helplessness, but he remains utterly silent.
Liu Yuan sits nearby, cradling Heng Heng in her arms. Tears stream down her face as she covers the child’s ears, trying in vain to block out the horrific sounds.
Despair begins to settle over the room like a suffocating fog. It gnaws at their spirits, piece by piece.
Who can save them?
Who can they save?
No matter how horrifying the situation next door is, Anran and the others are just as trapped, just as powerless. They can’t save the girl next door. They can’t even save themselves. All they can do is huddle together, clinging to the faint hope that some stroke of luck might come their way.
And then, in the midst of that despair, a man appears.
Under the silver glow of the moonlight, a crescent-shaped blade flashes as it carves through the night, cutting down every zombie that dares block his path. The sound of slaughter reverberates through the gas station as the figure presses forward, unstoppable.
The man wears jungle camouflage training pants, the legs neatly tucked into sturdy black military boots. His dark green short-sleeved T-shirt clings to his muscular frame, and tied around his head is a flamboyant pirate-style turban.
Black leather gloves cover his hands, and a massive marching backpack is strapped to his back. Whatever is inside the pack makes it bulge ominously, giving off an unsettling aura.
Effortlessly, he leaps onto the roof of a car that’s blocking the road. From there, he vaults into the gas station with an agility that seems almost inhuman.
Even in the cool night air, he’s wearing a pair of sunglasses. Standing amidst a group of stunned men on duty, the man casually pulls a pack of gum from his hip pocket, pops two pieces into his mouth, and begins chewing. His arms, thick with muscle, flex slightly as he stands near a patch of delicate pink snow mountain flowers.
He doesn’t speak a word. He just chews his gum and stares at the men around him with an air of complete indifference.
“Who the hell are you?!”
A young man with yellow hair finally snaps out of his stupor. Clearly inexperienced and hot-headed, he steps forward and jabs a finger at the man’s face, his tone dripping with bravado.
The pirate headscarf man grins, the gum still rolling in his mouth. In the pale moonlight, his teeth gleam unnervingly white. Without a word, he reaches up with his gloved hand and grabs the yellow-haired man’s outstretched finger.
Snap.
The sound of the bone breaking is sickeningly crisp.
“Ahhhh!”
The yellow-haired man lets out a bloodcurdling scream, clutching his mangled hand.
“Bastard!” another man shouts, drawing a knife and rushing at the pirate headscarf man.
The newcomer doesn’t even flinch. He chews his gum lazily as he raises one foot and delivers a devastating kick to the man’s chest. The impact sends the attacker flying backward, slamming him into a car with enough force to leave a human-shaped dent in the door. The man spits blood before collapsing to the ground, motionless.
The screech of metal echoes through the night.
“What’s going on?! What are you doing?!”
The Green Dragon tattooed man, as the boss of the group, has already been informed of the pirate headscarf man’s arrival. He rushes out in a panic. The moment he sees the force behind that single kick, he instantly realizes that this is someone they can’t afford to provoke. Even if he gathers everyone under his command, they won’t stand a chance against the pirate headscarf man.
