Chapter 166: You Are Reckless
Chapter 166: You Are Reckless
To everyone, Anran has become a "mobile granary," a resource too precious to lose. Because of this, the Green Dragon tattooed man and his men refrain from acting rashly. Instead, they politely escort Anran, Yun Tao, Liu Yuan, and the two children into a dormitory.
The Green Dragon tattooed man whispers a few instructions to his subordinates, leaving several men to stand guard outside.
As soon as they enter the dormitory, Anran turns around and slams the door shut, cutting off the Green Dragon tattooed man’s attempt to follow them inside.
Yun Tao, looking pale and unsure, sits down with Liu Yuan's help. Meanwhile, Anran takes the baby from Liu Yuan, carries the child to the corner of the room, and sits down to breastfeed with her back to the others.
The baby has to eat. If the child begins crying and irritates the unpredictable Green Dragon tattooed man, there’s no telling what might happen.
“Brother Tao, are you okay?” Liu Yuan asks, concern etched across her face.
“I’m fine,” Yun Tao replies weakly, covering the severe wound on his waist. His gaze shifts to the guards stationed outside the window. Then, he turns to Anran, his voice low but firm:
“You are reckless.”
Anran finishes feeding the baby, covers herself with her clothing, and glances at Yun Tao. She opens her mouth, wanting to reply, but can’t find the words to refute him.
“If their leader hesitated for even a moment today, we’d all be dead. You’d have been left alive—but you’d wish you weren’t.” Yun Tao speaks slowly, his breath labored. “That knife you held to your neck? It was no real threat to people like them. If anyone had decided to disarm you, tie you up, and use the baby to control you, they would’ve killed me, Liu Yuan, and Heng Heng without a second thought. Then you’d have been at their mercy forever.”
Liu Yuan’s face grows pale as she listens. She clings to a shred of hope, saying quietly, “But… they seem to respect Anran. Would it really come to that?”
Yun Tao shakes his head. “Respect? They’re just biding their time. They don’t need to threaten all of us. As long as they have the baby, they can control Anran. That’s all they need.”
Anran remains silent as she burps Doll and coax the child to sleep. She doesn’t argue because she knows Yun Tao isn’t entirely wrong. But with her current abilities and understanding of the situation, she believes she’s made the best choice possible under the circumstances.
If she hadn’t revealed her special ability, things could’ve gone far worse. The Green Dragon tattooed man’s men might have killed Yun Tao outright, broken into the car, and dragged her and Liu Yuan out. What would have happened to the baby then? The child’s cries wouldn’t have saved it—if anything, the baby would have been silenced permanently because of the noise.
Anran sighs deeply, adjusting her clothes and setting the baby down in the corner to sleep. Standing up, she glances at Yun Tao and Liu Yuan. Her voice is steady as she says, “What’s done is done. There’s no turning back now. Instead of pointing fingers, we need to focus on how to get out of here.”
Liu Yuan frowns, sitting beside Yun Tao. “As long as we stick together, we should be safe for now. But escaping… it won’t be easy. Brother Tao is injured. He can’t run far.”
Anran looks at the guards outside through the window. The heavy presence of the Green Dragon tattooed man’s men is a constant reminder of the danger they’re in. “We’ll take our time and plan carefully,” she says. “The most important thing right now is to stay alive.”
