Chapter 154: Is Your Ex-Wife Still Alive?
At the time, Anran was still young and didn't fully understand the weight of sadness. Her father dies in a car accident, and because of that, he can’t be awarded meritorious service. However, the army shows kindness by giving a large pension, which is meant for Anran, though it is divided among her relatives.
As a result, Anran grows up with more than enough to eat.
When she gets older, the first time she meets Zhan Lian, he is in a neat military uniform, his posture as straight as her father’s. She thinks he looks very manly, especially in the way he carries himself.
Zhan Lian tells her that he has no relatives, no attachments—he has a mission and has to leave quickly. He’s only returned to Xiangcheng to find a woman to marry.
Without giving it much thought, Anran agrees.
Snapping back to the present, Anran looks over at Yun Tao, who has already turned and gotten into his Hummer, which is packed with supplies. He drives straight to the fire escape gate. Anran quickly follows, watching as Yun Tao opens the fire escape gate and drives out.
Anran presses the accelerator and follows behind. The car driven by the other three survivors trails her as they all quickly leave the community.
The fire escape and the main gate are in two completely different directions. In theory, the community has four gates, but driving out from the other gates isn’t easy. So, except for the main gate, which is where Anran lives, the best option is to exit through the fire escape.
There aren’t as many zombies outside the fire escape as there are by the main gate, but there are still plenty. Yun Tao drives out, and most of the zombies follow his car. He opens the car window and throws a mobile phone that’s playing music out. Most of the zombies follow the phone, leaving a small group still chasing Yun Tao, who is quickly run over by Anran’s car.
As Anran and the others rush out of the fire escape and head for the nearby gas station, Zhan Lian and Lao Mao park their car far outside the main gate.
"My goodness, why are there so many zombies outside your community?" Lao Mao looks at the sea of zombies that blocks almost half of the street. "Even so, the people inside can’t get out. Is your ex-wife still alive?"
Zhan Lian’s sharp face hardens, his eyes filled with murderous intent. Sitting in the driver’s seat, he adjusts the headscarf on his head and clenches his fist. A layer of golden light flickers around his hand, and sharp wolf-like thorns appear on his fingers. Without a word, he opens the car door, steps out, and looks back at Lao Mao.
"On the contrary, this proves there are survivors inside."
After all, what are all these zombies doing, blocking the entrance of his community?
Without looking back, Zhan Lian charges into the sea of zombies with his fists raised. He swings left and right, and occasionally, sharp golden blades fly out from around his strong, sturdy body, spinning through the air to decapitate the zombies. In no time, he clears a path through the mass of undead.
"Hey, wait for me!"
Lao Mao, not wanting to be left behind, grabs a knife and dashes out like the wind, joining the zombie-slaying team.
Unlike Yun Tao, who works with a group to kill zombies, Zhan Lian is a one-man army. His ability to effortlessly cut through large groups with a single move, using the rotating golden blades to slice through zombies with such precision, is like cutting through mud. It’s clean, swift, and deadly.
