Chapter 127: How Extraordinary It Really Is
Chapter 127: How Extraordinary It Really Is
On the dark road at night, Anran listens to Liu Yuan’s words, closes her eyes, and sighs. "When I was in the hospital, I kept waiting for someone to come and save me. But no matter what I tried, the rescue never came. That’s when I realized—if a woman puts all her hopes on a man, thinking he’s the only one who can save her, she’s terribly mistaken. And we’re mothers, too."
Just like now. Staying in this neighborhood is peaceful, no doubt. With Yun Tao protecting them, food and clothing are no longer a concern. But is that all there is?
Anran feels unsettled. She has never wanted Liu Yuan to become dependent like Hu Zhi or Chen Jiao, but now it isn’t her indulging Liu Yuan—it’s Yun Tao.
At that moment, Anran can’t shake the growing feeling that she and Liu Yuan are destined to be different people.
After returning home with Doll, Anran opens her door. She turns around and watches Liu Yuan take Hengheng into her own home. Anran’s mind grows even more troubled.
Until today, to avoid Ren Xian and Yun Tao’s revenge, Liu Yuan has stayed at Anran’s home with Hengheng. But now, it seems like Liu Yuan has found peace and returns to her own place with Hengheng.
Anran knows she can’t change Liu Yuan’s mind.
Taking Doll into her home, she soothes him to sleep and eats a full meal. Then, sitting by the crib, she finds herself unable to rest, her thoughts a jumbled mess.
The pot of pink snow mountain flowers beside the crib trembles slightly in the afternoon breeze. Anran leans her head against the crib's edge, reaches out, and gently touches the petals of the pink snow mountain. She glances at the veins on the back of her hand, smiles faintly, and sends a bit of energy to the flower.
The flower leans toward her wrist, and as the veins on her hand begin to fade, the pink snow mountain climbs up her wrist, its green tendrils wrapping around it. A pink bud begins to bloom from the vine, slowly turning upward as though about to open.
Anran touches the bud gently with her other hand, as if petting a delicate creature. She whispers, “Do you think I should leave? Take Doll and go? It would be hard for me, and Doll’s safety wouldn’t be guaranteed, right? But if I stay, relying on Yun Tao for the rest of my life... doesn’t that seem forced?”
The flower bud doesn’t answer, only swaying gently and brushing against Anran’s palm in an almost magical way. Anran freezes, her hand halting.
She focuses, examining her hand closely. The flower and its green roots wrap around her wrist. Though still beautiful, they now seem lifeless—not as vibrant and full of spirit as they were moments ago.
Was the earlier sensation of the flower brushing against her hand just an illusion?
Feeling hungry, Anran stands up, carefully places the flower back in the pot, and heads to the living room to find something to eat. The food on the coffee table is from the past few days when she and Liu Yuan scavenged together. It’s enough to keep her going for several meals.
After finishing three boxes of overly sweet Oreos, Anran rubs her stomach and returns to Doll’s room. This time, she sits properly on the floor, legs crossed as though meditating. Holding the pink snow mountain flower in her hands with a look of devotion, she murmurs,
"Let’s see how extraordinary you really are."
