Chapter 123: Heart
Chapter 123: Heart
After regaining her composure, Anran endures the pain of her broken body. She hurriedly picks up Doll and heads to her car to feed her. Moments ago, Yun Tao had nearly beaten her to death, but after crying, she feels somewhat better and even manages to stand with Doll in her arms.
Outside the car, Liu Yuan and Hengheng still appear shaken.
Hasn’t Yun Tao always been the villainous boss? Why is he holding Liu Yuan and Hengheng, calling them "wife" and "son"? Is he mentally ill?
Inside the security room, Xiao Mei, thin and pale, stands silently at the door, a bedsheet wrapped around her body. Her sallow hair falls messily around her cold face, which appears sober yet distant, as if she’s floating in a dream. Occasionally, a flicker of a complex, almost crazed expression crosses her features.
She stands there quietly, watching Yun Tao finish crying, observing the five survivors approaching from a distance, and watching her husband.
Her husband lowers his head, his face filled with pain and guilt, and looks at her from afar.
The situation is actually straightforward. From the very first day Anran and Liu Yuan came to the security room to steal supplies, Yun Tao, sitting in the monitoring room, had seen everything clearly.
But at the time, his heart was dead. Xiao Mei had been mistreated by Ren Xian, and Yun Tao hadn’t cared. Why would he care if Anran and Liu Yuan were stealing things?
Every day, when he went to Phase II to kill zombies and search for supplies, Anran and Liu Yuan would come to the security room. He remained indifferent, neither caring nor stopping their actions.
The reason he returned from Phase II today was because Yun Tao had seen on the surveillance monitor that Hengheng had entered the elevator with a crying baby, just as Anran and Liu Yuan arrived at the security room.
Yun Tao had led the five men to Phase II for a while, but his thoughts kept circling back to Hengheng and Doll. He worried about whether Hengheng could handle Doll or if he was bringing her to Anran for help.
Despite himself, he felt a bit concerned for the two children. He feared Hengheng, being so young, might drop Doll while walking. So, he sent the five men away and returned alone from Phase II.
As soon as he reached Anran’s car, Liu Yuan noticed him.
The beating Liu Yuan and Anran endured wasn’t entirely his fault. At that moment, both women had clearly acted with murderous intent. Were they expecting him to show mercy?
Of course, the severity of the beating was due to Yun Tao’s sudden surge in strength. His physical power had dramatically increased one day, surpassing even Liu Yuan’s. Given Yun Tao’s better baseline fitness, his growth had exceeded hers significantly.
When Yun Tao saw Hengheng and Doll, something inside him came alive again.
He stops crying, stands up from the grass, and holds Hengheng with one hand while pulling up the stunned Liu Yuan with the other. He turns and waves toward Anran, who is feeding Doll in the car, before leading Hengheng and Liu Yuan into the security room.
Among all the survivors in the community, Yun Tao, a former armed police officer, possesses the best skills. He is a figure of authority, someone who can command with ease.
He sits in the office, while the five survivors stand outside the door, waiting. Xiao Mei glances at her husband standing outside before shifting her gaze to Hengheng, cradled in Yun Tao’s arms.
Without a word, she turns and enters the lounge to find clothes she hasn’t worn in days.
