How to Tame Animals with Food
'What the hell is she smelling?'
Tier growled low in her throat. She said it wasn't a bad scent, so there probably wasn't a problem, but...
'Is she picking up on something unique to the Incubus?'
I kept Tier in the corner of my vision as she continued rumbling, then casually pulled up my character window to skim the Incubus description.
Incubus Body: Easier to gain favor from the opposite sex and becomes more robust.
Ignoring the other functions, the Incubus Body stood out.
'Not just simple favorability—it's more comprehensive?'
Tier was a wolf beastkin. If "favor" manifested more through primal pheromones than psychological foundations?
'Like smelling like grilled pork belly, or a sweet fruity scent?'
My thoughts spiraled endlessly, and I shook my head to clear them. It wouldn't be bad for me anyway. Pork belly meant she'd devour my body, which was fine. Fruit meant she'd suck and slurp me eagerly, also fine. No reason to refuse a wolf beastkin rubbing up against me like that.
'NTR's progressing faster than expected, unintentionally.'
I'd have to send a box of snacks to the Apocalypse game devs as thanks once I returned to reality. Add a handwritten note, and it might even become a heartwarming internet story.
'Ah, fuck no. A hunter who plays adult games.'
Forget the snacks—my inner gratitude would suffice.
I quickly shook off my reverie, flashed another smile at the tilting-head Tier, and continued the conversation. My easygoing attitude seemed to relax her, kicking off some proper intimate time.
The frontline Tier and I discussed combat styles, while the backline Leon and Daphne cleared up their curiosities. The mood was ripening nicely when Leon, sensing we'd grasped each other enough, spoke up.
"Alright, we're getting friendly now, so how about we properly enter the Tower tomorrow?"
"Sounds good."
"Yes! What time tomorrow works?"
"Hmm... We need to buy climbing gear, so early morning?"
Staying silent here could affect party leadership. It was like a group project—nod too quietly, and you might get gaslit without noticing.
I turned to the chatting group. "Why not just book rooms at the same inn? No need to meet up separately."
We were a newbie party fresh with new comrades. Except for me, funds were tight, limiting options. They caught on, faces lighting up.
"Not a bad idea."
"I like it too!"
Tier nodded solemnly, Daphne still beaming brightly.
"Great. We can eat breakfast together and head out."
Leon agreed. The thought of dealing with that grubby dude over breakfast nearly made me puke, but oh well. To bond more with the girls, we needed more overlap. The receptionist said we'd stick as a party until floor 10, but after that? Better safe.
Decision made in a flash, we stood. It was late, and we needed a shop and inn near the Tower—time to move.
Luckily, we found a cheap spot quick: one double for Tier and Daphne, two singles for Leon and me.
It screamed "newbie adventurer crash pad," but it had everything, and no complaints. Even free breakfast for adventurers.
'Probably tastes like shit, but Tier'll eat it.'
Only Tier perked up at the "adventurer stew" mention. Elf Daphne said one apple sufficed; Leon dry-heaved at the kitchen hygiene.
No need to ask. Depressing to eat stew just for alone time with Tier, but unavoidable.
'Daily one-on-one with a wolf beastkin? I'd eat shit for that.'
On the stairs to our rooms, stew steam wafted from the kitchen, stirred by the innkeeper.
'Looks exactly like hangover soup, damn.'
Who'd think I'd taste home here? Paired with the soft jerky I brought from reality—not the rock-hard local stuff—it might be decent.
'Gotta share with Tier.'
She'd love modern jerky. Smiling contentedly, we exchanged goodbyes—everyone cheerful from the successful day. Party scattered to rooms. I watched their backs, chuckled, and turned away.
Entering the room: straw mattress, basic wooden furniture. Standing blankly, annoyance bubbled up.
Honestly, Daphne aside, Tier's outfit was too revealing. Tank top, no less. What if those things jiggled out up and down?
I imagined her, considered jerking off, then shook my head. Felt like Tier'd smell it. Dog nose, literally. Too early for risks with her.
Prostitution too—isekai fantasy, yet no beastkin hookers...
Sighing, I pulled a sleeping bag from inventory and set up.
'Primitive medieval fucks. Filthy as hell.'
"Yawwwn."
Neck stiff from tossing in the sleeping bag, I rotated it descending the stairs. There was Tier in the corner, brushing back her snowy hair into braids.
'Puppy's cute.'
Her crisp morning vibe woke me fully; grinning, I approached.
"Morning, Tier."
She'd already perked her nose at my approach, turning to meet my eyes.
"Yeah. Morning, Berg. You eating too?"
"Gotta fuel up for the frontlines. Daphne?"
"Eating in her room—hair stuff."
Daphne's locks came to mind; I nodded. Yesterday's was a classic updo, twisted elaborately—time-consuming. In an era where hair was wealth, no short cuts since arriving.
Glancing at Tier's, she caught it and spoke.
"Can't do fancy like that... Daphne taught me this."
Unlike Daphne's complex twist, Tier's long white hair was a single braid. Suited her active vibe, swaying with her tail—hypnotic. Front: jiggle jiggle. Back: swish swish. Walking pendulum.
Staring blankly as she braided, the plump-faced innkeeper approached smiling.
"Friendly early birds! Here—our inn's famous adventurer soup. Good meat from yesterday, won't disappoint."
Reading the mood, she set steaming wooden bowls and spoons, then returned to the kitchen.
Adventurer soup—aka stew—looked appetizing per her words. Tier's wagging tail and twitching nose said it tasted fine.
Whatever, in this mood, anything's edible.
"Dig in. Leon ain't coming down."
"Yeah."
I stirred unknown bits, shoveled in. Boiled non-stop, surprisingly flavorful.
'Still missing that 2%.'
Rich taste from ingredients, but skimped spices left a subtle aftertaste on my modern tongue—shame.
Glancing over, Tier beamed, spoon flying—loving it unlike me.
I sprinkled prepped shredded jerky on mine, tasted.
'Ah... much better.'
MSG umami filled the gap.
"What's that?"
"Hm?"
Nodding satisfied, her words drew my gaze—she twitched her nose, gulping, eyeing the jerky hungrily.
Chuckling, I slowly sprinkled some on hers too.
"Jerky I made. Try it."
She startled at the sudden addition but couldn't resist, scooping big. Eyes widened in shock. Hands flew, devouring greedily.
I resumed eating, scenery of her munching.
'Heh. Animals tame best with food.'
