Chapter 29: New Faces
While Kang Dohun and his group cleaned up the area around the uninhabited island, Kang Dohyun flew a bit farther on his drone.
‘Was it around here?’
He checked the map as he soared over the sea, and in the distance, a beach came into view. Daecheon Beach—his destination was a heavily populated area.
After landing at Daecheon Beach and recalling his drone, he scanned the surroundings with his sense of presence.
‘Nothing out of the ordinary nearby.’
If it were vacation season, this area would be packed with people, but since it was winter, there were only a few zombies around.
‘If there’s a nearby city…’
Boryeong City.
‘Let’s head to Boryeong.’
Dohyun summoned his drone again and set off toward Boryeong.
Boryeong wasn’t a large city. The problem was that, because of its size, zombies had been cleared out quickly, and a strange group had taken root.
The group that controlled 30% of Boryeong was the Gainan Sect, a cult organization.
The Gainan Sect consisted of about 500 followers, half of whom were fanatics who blindly obeyed the cult leader’s words, while the rest were ordinary believers who couldn’t escape despite their own will.
Such a cult organization was…
‘Nothing but harmful.’
It had to be crushed completely. There was no benefit to letting it grow any larger.
Once Dohyun confirmed the existence of the Gainan Sect in Boryeong City, he immediately approached their headquarters.
A small building in downtown Boryeong served as the Gainan Sect’s base, always guarded by fanatics on watch.
Seeing them, Dohyun thought…
‘These kinds of religious groups don’t respond to reason.’
He pulled out his crossbow and…
‘Thwip, thwip!’
“Kuh!”
The first guard dropped dead instantly.
“Enemy! Kgh!”
He took out the second guard with the crossbow as well.
“Enemy!”
“An intruder has appeared!”
Fanatics poured out from inside and around the building, but…
“Alright, let’s take them all out at once.”
Dozens of armed people appeared, but to Dohyun, they were just good Zombie Coins.
At the top of the building was an ordinary office, though it now carried a slightly eerie atmosphere.
Cha Taewoo, the leader of the Gainan Sect, used this office as his personal room, and there were many attractive women present.
“Leader, are you cool enough?”
“Leader, would you like some fruit?”
“Leader, what kind of play would you like?”
The women, dressed in revealing clothes, cooed and flirted with the leader. This was his kingdom; he was the king, and they were his handmaidens.
As the leader enjoyed the women’s attentions, suddenly…
‘Click.’
Someone burst through the door and entered the leader’s room.
“Leader, we’ve been invaded.”
“Invaded? Where? More high schoolers? Or the Junggong Apartment group?”
No, it’s just one person.”
Hearing that there was only one intruder, the leader immediately relaxed and replied.
“Hey, handle that yourself. It’s not something you need to report to me.”
Though the leader spoke casually, the subordinate…
“That’s… kgh!”
The subordinate who was about to report further suddenly started spitting blood from his mouth. He collapsed, an arrow embedded in the back of his head.
“.....”
The leader and the women inside looked shocked as a man stepped over the fallen body and entered.
“So this is the leader’s room? Looks like it.”
Dohyun, seeing the leader Cha Taewoo and the women, confirmed his suspicions.
There were numerous fanatics, but the fact that he’d made it this far meant he wasn’t an ordinary person. Still, the leader was furious upon seeing Dohyun.
“You bastard!”
He grabbed the baseball bat beside him and charged, but…
‘Thwack!’
Dohyun swung his axe once, and the leader’s face was smashed to pieces.
‘Thud.’
He collapsed on the spot, dead.
After felling the leader, Dohyun immediately checked the surroundings with his sense of presence.
‘They’re all running away.’
He’d killed over a hundred fanatics at the entrance alone. Naturally, most people would flee in such a situation.
Most of the remaining fanatics had been dealt with while climbing the building, so all the ordinary believers were running away.
Judging that there were no enemies for now, Dohyun looked at the women around the leader.
‘Definitely, good looks.’
The women carried by lawless gangs had decent appearances, and since they’d been mistreated by the gangs, they were easy to manage.
Similarly, the women chosen by the cult leader were also quite attractive. But here…
“Who are the fanatics?”
At Dohyun’s question, the six women’s gazes crossed. Four of them pointed out two women with their eyes.
When the two were identified, one of them…
“Die!”
Charged at Dohyun to avenge the leader, but…
‘Whoosh, smack!’
Dohyun punched the charging woman’s face, and she immediately fainted from the immense pain.
“For now, we don’t need the fanatics.”
He brought his axe down on the fallen woman’s neck, killing her, then approached another fanatic woman.
“P-please… spare me.”
Despite her plea for mercy, he swung his axe.
‘Whoosh, thwack!’
The axe split her head in two, and the second woman died on the spot.
Two fanatics were dead. Four women remained.
“So, the rest of you aren’t fanatics, right?”
The four women nodded stiffly.
“Good. Then, among the four of you, is there anyone who’s done something seriously wrong?”
At this question, they hesitated slightly.
“I’ve done something wrong……”
“Is the standard vague? A serious wrong—like killing someone or driving another to death… you can think of it as a major crime.”
At this question, the other women stayed quiet, but one raised her hand.
“I’ve killed someone to survive.”
“To survive, right?”
“Yes.”
“That much I can overlook.”
He asked a few more questions to confirm they were ordinary people before taking them to the island. All of them gave unremarkable answers.
‘Unremarkable.’
They could have lied, but that could be checked later.
After Dohyun’s questions and the women’s answers concluded, he made a proposal.
“Do you all want to live?”
When asked if they wanted to live, all the women nodded.
They had endured being the cult leader’s women, suffering all sorts of horrors, but still held on to survive. Among the women brought to the sect, those who had given up on life were long dead.
“If you want to live, sign this contract.”
What Dohyun showed the women was a slave contract.
A slave contract is one method by which a person becomes subservient to another, meaning one person becomes another’s property.
It’s a contract that has disappeared in modern society, as the idea of one person becoming another’s property makes no sense.
But the slave contract that enables this, newly revised and available in the shop, had actual efficacy.
Dohyun looked at the women and said again.
“This is a slave contract. Those who sign it will be spared.”
It was an item purchased from the shop for 500 Zombie Coins. Expensive, but its performance was reliable.
“I… I… I don’t want to become a slave.”
One woman hesitated and refused. So…
“If you don’t want to, there’s nothing I can do.”
He immediately raised his axe and struck the woman who had refused.
‘Thwack!’
Instant death—the woman’s head burst, splattering blood on the faces and bodies of the other women nearby.
“Anyone else refusing?”
Dohyun spoke kindly, but the women shook their heads in terror.
“I’ll sign.”
“I’ll accept.”
The women signed the slave contract to survive.
As the women wrote their own names on the slave contract…
Lee Jieun has become Kang Dohyun’s slave.
Cho Minseo has become Kang Dohyun’s slave.
Kim Daeun has become Kang Dohyun’s slave.
Three women became Dohyun’s confirmed slaves. And he checked.
“Did anyone lie to me today?”
He had asked various questions before the contract, and now he was asking if anyone had lied. But…
“A…”
Kim Daeun raised her hand. Against her will, she raised it under her master’s command.
“Heh, heh, heh. Why did you lie? I’ll give you one last chance to correct it.”
Dohyun, touching his blood-stained axe, asked, and Kim Daeun answered through tears.
“I… I also killed someone to survive. I hit a man’s head with a rock when he tried to rape me. I didn’t know I’d kill him.”
She confessed her murder while crying.
“That’s all, right?”
“Yes.”
Dohyun put down the axe he was holding.
“I’ll overlook it this one time. From now on, if you lie to me, it’s immediate execution.”
He said it with a smile, but the women were so terrified that they wouldn’t dare lie to him again.
Dohyun gave tasks to the three new slaves.
“So, do you know why I made beautiful women like you all slaves?”
The women didn’t know, so they couldn’t answer.
“For now, officially, you’re not my slaves. You’ve been scouted by me.”
He began speaking like this.
“You’ll be going to the island.”
“You’ll need to listen to the people living there.”
“I’m not asking for anything extraordinary. It’ll be simple labor without overexertion. Just live diligently.”
“You’ll all be satisfied. If you work there, you’ll be fed and treated humanely.”
At this, the women nodded in understanding. But…
“Don’t cause trouble. If problems arise, you’ll be disposed of immediately.”
At the word “disposed of,” fear flickered in the women’s faces again.
“Oh, as a special reward here, there’s a guy on the island. Get along with him. If you become his woman and even give birth to a child, I’ll remove the slave contract.”
He finished the explanation simply.
“Alright, let’s go together now.”
Dohyun led the new slaves out of the building. Then…
“.....”
A sea of corpses and blood covered the streets, and the women expressed shock at the horrific scene.
“Did… did you do this, Master?”
“Yes.”
The slave women, seeing their master’s calm demeanor, realized they shouldn’t anger him if they wanted to survive.
