Life is a series of choices.
It was a line from some self-help book whose title I couldn’t even remember anymore, but life really was one goddamn series of choices after another.
Buying that virtual reality headset right when the safety controversy was blowing up.
Sinking five whole years into a single MMORPG.
Spending hours customizing my avatar every single time I rolled a new character.
All of it had been my choice.
And yes, playing as a female character was the golden rule.
No matter how wrecked the real me looked, seeing my pretty in-game avatar always lifted my mood a little.
At least until today, I had no regrets.
If anyone saw my current state they’d probably scream “Hikikomori!” but I’d been a shut-in ever since my parents died five years ago anyway.

Still, in the Eternal Tower that most players bitched about being impossible, I had reached the highest floor no one else had ever touched.

Some people called this game a broken, unbalanced piece of trash.
To me it was a god-tier masterpiece that even rewarded you for being number one.

I nodded in satisfaction and moved my avatar toward the reward prompt.
Being the very first to reach the summit, they must have packed it with incredible gifts.
With that thought in mind, the moment my hand touched the message—
