RV Kingdom: Jambalaya, Monkfish Soup, and the Awning Ordeal
Jambalaya, monkfish soup, and grilled shellfish. As I stepped out of the car, a chilly wind blew in from the wide-open coastline. Kuhk. You think a little wind like this can stop me? I'm invincible—I can sleep in an RV, not just a tent! Wait, no time for dumb thoughts like that.
I pulled out the tripod and camera from the undercarriage storage compartment. Even wrapped in bubble wrap, with all those bumpy roads... hope it's okay. I set up the tripod and got the camera ready. Right, connect the tablet Bluetooth to this camera instead. The screen... nice, looks good.
As the camera feed went live, the screen showed a painting-like backdrop. To the left, an orange autumn forest encircled us, and to the right, the endless blue South Sea stretched beyond a distant cliff. Right in the center stood my RV, parked majestically. Subscribers would love this view, right?
Huh? That's not the reaction I expected. After an hour of stream abandonment and black screens, followed by abrupt endings, subscribers were furious and the chat wouldn't stop.
"Weird? Why are they so mad?" I thought this scenery would calm them down. Does it look bad on screen? I checked the tablet. No... it's gorgeous.
Huh, did I touch something wrong? I waved my hand in front of the camera. It shows up fine?
"What are you talking about? The screen's showing fine right now?" What do they mean background screen? To check properly, I stood in front of the camera. Chat exploded.
Aha! They mistook this epic scenery for a waiting screen or wallpaper? Yeah, I get it now. It's a bit dim, but the sunset reflecting off the distant sea gives it a dreamy vibe.
"Alright, everyone. Sorry to keep you waiting! This is where I'm camping today. Today, this is my kingdom!" I stood in front of the camera, bathed in sunset light, flashing a shameless grin with a dash of bravado.
The reactions were intense, but I ignored them and picked up the camera, moving toward the RV. To me in full camping mode, it was just noise!
"First up, let's properly show off the RV."
Start with the exterior, right? "This is the Coachmen model from Ford. RVs come in types like caravans and motorhomes—this is a motorhome."
I circled the vehicle, showing the overall shape.
Kuh, knew they'd get it. My channel blew up on algorithm luck, but at heart, it's camping YouTube. Lots of subscribers into camping—how could they skip an RV?
"Total American vibe, right? High chassis for great stability, and best of all—huge exterior storage!"
Tang! Pumped up, I slapped the side and kept explaining. Grab the handle on the side, lift—and boom, massive storage bay.
"See? Fits all your gear. My stuff's in there: grill, fire pit, tarp, tent. All of it."
What! Even with an RV, you pitch a tent! Camping outside is the best!
"Ahem. And this awning is key..." I gripped the manual lever on the RV wall. The awning—or shade canopy—completes RV camping romance. Replaces a tarp!
"It extends nice and sturdy? Blocks rain, sun, all that."
"..." Uh... well, yeah, but romance... RV means awning out, BBQ under it!
"How dare you abandon romance?! Have you even camped?! Gotta extend it for the vibe!" I yelled, cranking the lever hard. Hup! It started extending smoothly.
Good, going well. Kiki-gig! ...Until halfway, metal screeched, lever jammed.
"Ahem, takes some force." Panicking but playing cool, I cranked harder. Hup...! Veins popped on my hand, but no dice. Dropped the facade, remounted camera on tripod, threw my whole body into it. Gritting teeth, face red, hanging off the lever with both hands.
"Grhup...! Argh, why's it so stuck!!!"
"Shut up! Awnings are manual... for... the roots! Hup...!" Finally, with everything I had, I got it fully extended. Sweat on my forehead, panting hard.
"Hah... hah... See? Full vibe now?"
Uh... folding? Didn't think that far...
......
"Now, let's see the interior."
"See? Bedroom, bathroom, kitchen. All there. Done."
Viewers complained: sofa? Table sturdy? More details! Haa, want a full breakdown? Can you handle it?
"...You really want it? Once I start, I won't stop."
"Knew it. I'm hungry too—let's prep dinner." With that, full camping setup began. Under the awning, I set out my usual fire pit, BBQ grill, chairs, table. Oof, arms shaking from earlier? Just unfolding stuff feels shaky. Laid flame-retardant mat under pit and grill for safety.
"Ah, menu? Time to reveal."
No point hiding anymore.
Huh? Was gonna tell... did I tease too much? "This time for real... promise." Any longer and riots. Hurriedly moved the icebox into view, pulled out black plastic bags.
"Tonight's dinner is this!"
"Oops, my mistake. Here's the contents."
Patience hitting zero. Pulled out chopped monkfish, oysters, shrimp.
"That's why I got back late from the market..." Briefly shared the fan couple story, showed our photo. Hope they're watching.
"They said show the pic on stream—such a happy couple..."
Chat heating up. Makes sense—first time seeing such a blissful couple.
"Right? Jealous? Anyway, they gifted this too—thanks to them, dinner's richer. Hope you're watching. Bon appétit~." Bowed to camera. Warm story softened the chat.
"So tonight: refreshing monkfish soup, fresh South Sea clams and oysters grilled..." Paused, grabbed a palm-sized shrimp from another bag. "And finally, shrimp-boosted jambalaya to elevate it all."
"Nope, don't even have mine yet." Brushed off TTS, started setup. First, monkfish soup. Dumped in radish chunks, green onion, minced garlic from the couple into pot. Pinch of salt, monkfish, water—on portable burner.
"They even prepped the fish—cuts cooking time. Next, jambalaya."
"Oho, expert in the house. Classic camping rule: dump everything in soups and boil."
Chopped onion, bell pepper, celery—not pro speed, but decent.
"TMI, but in Creole cooking, onion, bell pepper, celery are the 'holy trinity.' Picked it up from a recipe."
"Pffft... TTS is gold. Nailed the sarcasm."
Veggies done, charcoal lit. "Grill's ready—move soup there, finish jambalaya."
Deveined shrimp, bigger cast iron on empty burner. Generous olive oil, dump veggies. Chiiik. Nice sizzle, nutty aroma.
"Mmm, that veggie sauté smell—best, right?"
"Oh yeah? Uhaha, smells great to me." Trolled 'em, then as veggies translucent, added tomato paste, chicken stock, stirred. Thickened sauce, dumped pre-mixed spices. Exotic scents swirled.
"Spices mixed at home—small batch. Uh... oregano, basil, thyme, paprika powder, garlic powder, Creole seasoning. Locals use 10+, but camping hack: this much."
Time to wrap. Chijik. Added water, jasmine rice cup, shrimp, lid on.
"Whew, first serious cooking on camp in ages—head spinning."
Jambalaya? Homey Southern dish—not hard. Name or ingredients fool people.
"Jambalaya's easy home cooking from US South. Sauté, rice, boil—done."
"Spices? Got some for grilling at home. Craving jambalaya but no spices? Mart has 'Montreal Steak Seasoning'—covers most, good sub."
Checked grill: soup milky and rich. Ladled a sip.
"Kraaaah. Kills."
Crap! That old-man reaction... glanced at camera sheepishly.
"N-no... deep... refreshing. Hohoho..." Awkward laugh, damage control. Peeked at tablet chat.
Good reactions. Why? I'd cringe at mismatch... whatever, good is good.
"Soup's off—grill the rest." Finally, seafood! Just shrimp, clams, oysters left. Removed grill plate, direct over coals: clams, oysters. Foil-wrapped shrimp. Lid on, 5 mins to charcoal-grilled perfection.
"5 mins... just 5 more..." Damn, 5 mins drags. Glanced aside—miss Nana gulping every 10 secs after just two camps together. Flipped jambalaya pan occasionally. 5 mins up. Sunset gone, sky-sea blurred in blue dusk. RV lights and lantern on—cozy glow over table.
Plated: steaming soup, exotic jambalaya, golden clams/oysters. Smug smile. Camera sweep of table.
"How's it look? Bomb, right?"
"Heh... Looks delish? Too bad. So sad." Final troll, spoon up. Hot soup to lips.
"Bon appétit!"
Clang, ting! Wind knocked ladle onto tablet. Bad spot. Moved it—slipped!
"Whoa—phew, close." Check for scratches? Wait, screen black? Buffering? Net fine. Tapped—still no chat. Center: wrong words.

...Start? Streaming already—why 'start' button? Flash: fumbling tablet, thumb jammed top-right. Then black. App top-right...
