Chapter Title: The Core of Revenge: Siege Warfare
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The core of Revenge revolves around war content centered on siege battles and the like.
“Isn’t Revenge just one of those idle games where you set auto-hunt and leave it running?”
It’s a common misconception, born out of ignorance.
The overwhelming number one in sales.
Think about it, and it makes perfect sense. Unless the game itself hypnotizes people into spending money, there’s always a reason why players shell out cash.
“It’s true that most of Revenge’s playtime is spent on auto-hunt. But strictly speaking, that hardly counts as combat. If anything, it’s more like farming—gathering resources, akin to tending a farm.”
In other words, you build your specs through auto-hunting, then unleash those specs in wars. That’s the real content of Revenge.
Suppose a raid boss appears.
In most games, the content would naturally be defeating that mighty raid boss.
You challenge it, win or lose, to gauge its skills.
Estimate its health, figure out the conditions for phase 2 and 3.
Hunt for special mechanics, devise strategies, sync up with other parties or guildmates through repeated attempts to clear the raid.
But Revenge is different.
When the raid boss spawn time hits, one guild declares:
“The Cyclops Greatsword Master spawning this time will be taken by our Hook Guild.”
Other guilds then state their positions.
“We disagree.”
“Us too!”
“We feel the same.”
“We came here to claim it ourselves?”
So, what happens next?
War.
Unlike other games where raid monsters occupy a spot all day waiting for players, or even spawn in instanced format for every challenger, Revenge’s raid bosses are one-of-a-kind and vanish after a set time.
That’s why Revenge players must strategize against the raid monster while fending off wars with other players trying to steal it.
In extreme cases, it devolves into endless killing sprees where everyone takes massive losses, and the raid boss despawns before anyone can claim it—the worst outcome!
Players constantly monitor the dwindling timer, adapting their tactics.
Form alliances with enemy guilds to push out others.
Negotiate.
Betray.
Or just crush them with sheer force.
And all this plays out not with hundreds, but thousands or tens of thousands of players.
It doesn’t stop in-game either—wars spill into online media battles, sometimes even face-to-face meetings in the real world.
Bribing with cash, infiltrating enemy guilds with spies to steal intel!
It demands [social] skills unimaginable in typical games.
“That’s why Revenge tops the sales charts.”
The thrill of war.
The rush of triumphing over humans... something you can’t get from cutting down programmatically generated foes like NPCs.
This holds little appeal for casual players who just enjoy the game, but it’s catnip for Revenge’s main clientele.
The “whales”—super users who drop big money—and they drive the game’s revenue.
“But man, item prices are insane. Stop jacking up the market, you lunatics! Are you all loaded or what!? I just want rare drops for a thousand won!”
Anyway, back to the point.
In Revenge, even boss raids are wars.
Field hunting spots spark wars over prime territory.
Events are wars.
Siege battles? Obviously wars.
“Sigh. At least dungeon clears were something else... Now even those are wars?”
Of course, those “wars” aren’t against other players, but monsters. Unlike Revenge’s mobs, though, the monsters here hunt in packs and use tactics.
Not to be underestimated. They one-shot the boss in Red Axe Hill for a Hell difficulty clear, but...
That’s only feasible in a ‘low-level zone’ like this.
Deeper into the central continent, Hell clears will be brutally tough.
Rumble!
“Ugh! What’s that!? Fall back!”
“N-No need to retreat... The ground is pushing us out!”
Before I knew it, I’d exited the dungeon and stood amid the soldiers.
The chaos was such, and the clear so swift, they hadn’t noticed my return.
‘How long was that? About 15 minutes?’
It happened in the blink of an eye.
“But... this only works while bosses are rare-grade.”
No game dungeon clears this fast.
Take the area 100km south—my own territory. Its Hell boss was a Sword Master, right?
My weapon throws pack punch even masters can’t replicate easily, sure... but they’re just physical attacks at heart...
Not enough to topple transcendent foes.
‘If I had to describe my current combat style... it’s optimized for bullying the weak.’
Shuttling between Earth and Ardania gives me effectively infinite stamina, and I can recover from anything short of fatal—even fatals, really.
But what if...
I face an enemy that can one-shot me?
‘Zipping back to Earth won’t save me then.’
That’s when the ground’s expansion halts.
A vast clearing spans about a 1km radius, and then...
Crack!
The earth splits, walls rising.
“Whoa. No way.”
“A castle wall!”
“Did the lord do this? This change... Gasp! Lord!”
Under the gaze of 1,700 territory folk, the castle takes shape.
Walls stand 3.5m tall—not imposing. More like a tall fence than a proper wall. But the massive compass-drawn perfect circle, rising flawlessly, is a sight to behold.
‘Eh, still just an earthen fort.’
Piled dirt walls are basically steep hills—superhumans can scale them easily. And rain? It’ll erode them.
“Gotta occupy and upgrade ASAP.”
As I resolve this, beams of light cascade down.
They solidify into goblins with bows, goblins with staves, manning the walls.
“Swordman.”
“Yes, my lord.”
“Smash the gate and charge in. Lead all troops behind and seize the castle.”
“Yes, sir!”
“Steel Stone, Hundred. You two, with me.”
“Yes, sir!”
[Ironclad Rhino Sting (Rare) is summoned!]
Pet summoned. I hand two cards to the knights.
“This is...”
“You’ve seen it enough times. Summon them now.”
At my words, Steel Stone and Hundred gesture into the air.
Flash! Flash!
Identical warhorses appear behind each knight.
Ironclad Mount Jane (Advanced).
Chosen with arrows in mind.
“Whoa! Fine size on these!”
“Such splendid steel barding!”
The knights beamed, thrilled. Knights on foot too long, apparently—it bordered on感動.
‘Their old horses got slaughtered by orcs anyway. Should’ve given ’em sooner.’
A twinge of regret as I select the siege UI.
Sieges unfold in four phases.
1. An eligible guild declares siege. One per week.
2. Upon start, up to 10 guilds join as attackers; the ruling guild defends in outer wall battle. Ends when the gate falls.
3. Gate down? Inner wall battle. Ends when guardian towers fall.
4. Towers gone, barrier lifts—attackers storm the lord’s castle. Final fight at the throne; victor’s guild leader imprints their name, siege ends.
I select [Declare Siege].
[One guild has declared siege on Red Spike Goblin Fortress!]
[Guilds wishing to join, declare siege!]
If other Ardania guilds existed and picked siege declaration via UI, it’d delay and turn competitive.
‘Annoying, but doable.’
Naturally, no takers.
Sure, someone might luck into a class card, but forming a guild? Impossible.
System UI is alien to medieval folk, even in Hangul. Guild creation needs level 20+ and heaps of gold besides.
Thud thud thud!
Ironclad Rhino and mounts charge the dirt walls. Mid-stride, I say:
“Eat up.”
“Yes!”
I confirm the knights snag rice cakes from inventory and chow down, then pop one myself.
[Consumed Mugwort Rice Cake (Advanced)! Recovery and mana recovery +100 for 4 hours!]
Toss the plate aside, draw bone longsword. Gate, walls, wall-top goblins in sight.
‘No need for a drawn-out fight.’
How much have I spent? Tens of millions of won.
In Revenge, a player with that much pay-to-win gear farming lowbie zones? Begging for trash talk.
Crunch!
Muscles twist. Mid-charge...
I hurl it.
Boom!
Thunderous impact—light beam slams the gate.
Kablooey!
Recoil halts Sting’s wild dash for a split second, but it snorts and accelerates.
Look up: gate in ruins.
“Gate’s down! Advance!”
“Form ranks! No running!”
Shouts from behind as we charge.
“Steel human! Steel human charging!”
“Loose arrows!”
“Hurl stones!”
Wall goblins shriek in panic.
But we shrug off hits, plow through the gate.
Crash crash crash!
Sting tramples gate rubble in a straight charge, knights’ mounts tight behind.
[Outer wall battle ended! Inner wall battle begins!]
Boom!
Bone longsword flies down the straight avenue, shatters guardian tower.
[Inner wall battle ended! Lord’s castle accessible!]
“Logout!”
Back to the one-room.
“Hah... hah... huff huff!”
Panting ragged, I knead my arm. Right one’s bruised black from fingertips to shoulder. Overdid the throws. Class swap pronto.
★☆Job Change Complete☆★
Sword King => Chaplain
“Heal!”
No hesitation—skill away. Bed down to rest.
Regen, food buffs, plus Heal: black bruise fades to normal.
“Wow, throws are way more effective than expected?”
Started as a desperate gimmick, but performance exceeds imagination. 300m+ range, one-shots walls?
Plus, no recoil worries—pairs perfectly with my high strength offsetting low HP/stamina.
“Open Weapon Chakra? Nah, Throwing Chakra. Worth training?”
Pondering rest. Not total downtime—left arm fine, mouse for rice cake.
Rumble rumble!
Charge. Few blockers—goblins clustered on walls.
Panicked goblins descend to chase, but stubby legs can’t match horse speed. Actually cleared path for trailing troops to enter unscathed.
Total rabble. Utter disarray.
Bang!
Storm lord’s castle. Mowing goblins, reach throne.
“Guard me!”
“Yes, my lord!”
[Han Jaeyeon is attempting to imprint the throne!]
System alert. Hurry block it.
But no other guilds here.
“Hah!”
“Hup!”
Goblins couldn’t pierce two aura users.
Fifteen minutes pass.
[Congratulations! One guild has occupied Red Spike Goblin Fortress!]
[New lord: Han Jaeyeon.]
Had it been another guild’s castle, defense/siege would swap and replay. Neutral? Siege ends.
Screeching goblins vanish instantly; just us three on the throne.
“Whew... whew... It’s over.”
“Siege ending this fast? Wouldn’t have believed it before.”
“But odd... Throne capture ends it...”
“Anyway, good work everyone.”
Chatting, I review next steps.
‘Mountains to do.’
Occupied castle: elite troops here will slowly fill Goddess’s Blessing.
Hunt with full Blessing? It depletes, I gain guild XP.
‘Castle back, central dungeon respawns. As lord, tax dungeons... Sales NPC? Much to check.’
Plans swirl: troop training, territory ops, endless thoughts.
Kablooey!
Followed by...
“Awooooooo------!”
Long wolf howl shreds my reverie.
“What?”
“That howl... Impossible.”
“Wolf King? Why here? Beasts on ley lines...!”
Brushing shocked knights, bolt from castle.
“Hahaha! Oh! Yeah, buddy! Can come in now? Perfect, perfect.”
“......”
Teeth gritted at wolf mid-castle square, orc atop it.
Too sudden, zero prep.
“Oh! That human looks tough. You the big boss here?”
Groaning at the chipper voice.
“......This is insane.”
Vulcan Orc Great General (Hero)

There stood a Sword Master.
My...
Enemy.
