Chapter 5
Chapter 5
You Get More Money If You Take This
As far as I remembered, she had definitely said she completed active duty in the army.
It wasn’t perfectly clear since it was a while ago, but that’s how I remembered it.
So I quickly left a comment.
“No, wait—didn’t you say you finished active duty in the army? Which one is true?”
Just as I was getting tense—
A reply came.
“Oh, that army thing? That was a lie haha.”
“…What?”
“Seriously?”
I clearly remembered her posting about enlistment in the gallery before.
She even said she was going into the army.
So what happened in between?
‘Did she suddenly develop some serious health issue?’
As I was thinking that—
“To be precise, I did go into the army, but later my health got worse, and somehow I ended up as a public service worker.”
“Is that even possible?”
Going from active duty to public service?
That sounded ridiculous.
If it were that easy, everyone would do it.
“Why did you end up there?”
That was the important part.
But—
“That’s a secret. Anyway, why does it matter? I already finished.”
…Fair enough.
The conversation ended there.
“Whew.”
I managed to dodge the question about my assignment too.
Better not risk mentioning something that might not even exist in this world.
Satisfied, I closed the forum and turned on a game.
Today, I felt like playing a soccer game.
I preferred strategy-based ones rather than controlling players directly.
While adjusting settings—
“Oppa, do you have time?”
“Yeah, why?”
I had plenty of time.
Though I’d have to return to university eventually…
Because of something that happened before, I kept delaying it.
“What is it?”
“My friends are doing a 5-player party. Join us.”
“I don’t even have an account.”
She wanted me to play that MOBA game.
But I had no account—and no reason to join her friends.
“That’s why I borrowed one. Just play with us.”
She came prepared.
Still—
“Isn’t it awkward? You’re playing with friends, and I just jump in?”
It felt like a senior crashing a freshman event.
“Come on, just play. I know you’re bad, but it’s fine.”
“Excuse me? Who are you calling bad?”
I hadn’t played that game, sure—
but that didn’t mean I was bad at games.
That word again.
Unbelievable.
“I’m not mad. You’re just twisting facts.”
“…Seriously.”
That word alone could tilt anyone.
“Just two matches. My friends want to see you.”
“…Really?”
I wasn’t some creep trying to show off to minors—
but attention from the opposite sex?
That was interesting.
“Well, I can’t help it then. I’m just too handsome. I’ll play two games.”
“…Maybe don’t.”
“Respect your older brother.”
We went back and forth before finally deciding.
I would play.
So now I was installing the game.
“Tell them I’m new. I don’t want to get flamed.”
“Of course. Who would flame you?”
She had a point.
No one attacks beginners.
…Probably.
I logged in and waited.
‘Why am I nervous?’
I’d played online games with others before—
but not like this.
Then—
Ding!
An invitation popped up.
“Uh… is this party name really ‘I want to mate with fur’…?”
It was embarrassing just reading it.
“Yeah, that’s the one. Just accept it.”
“…Alright.”
I clicked accept.
Immediately—
Voices flooded in.
“Mic test.”
“Idiot, use Discord.”
“Why am I an idiot?”
“Shut up, her brother is coming.”
…Chaos.
I needed to speak up.
“Uh… hello?”
Silence.
Makes sense.
They’d been joking around—and suddenly someone’s older brother was listening.
“Is no one there…?”
I pretended like I might leave—
“Ah! You’re here!!”
“Mic lagged, sorry!”
They recovered quickly.
Then Yeram returned.
We moved to Discord.
“Send me the link.”
“Okay.”
Everyone joined.
Now—
positions.
Top, jungle, mid, ADC, support.
Sounded complicated.
Yeram decided.
“I’ll go ADC. Oppa, you play support.”
“…Okay.”
I never thought I’d play this game.
Still nervous—
we started.
Then—
“Oppa.”
“Yeah?”
“…Do you want to die?”
“Why?”
“You’re not supposed to last-hit minions! Why are you taking them?”
“What? You get more money if you take them. Why do you get all the good stuff? That hurts my feelings as your brother.”
…She sounded genuinely angry.
