Chapter 59: The Reason
Yohan opened his eyes and glanced at the empty space beside him. No one was there, but the signs that someone had been were unmistakable.
The first thing he saw upon waking was a sheet soaked in vaginal fluid. Yohan lifted it and the blanket, heading straight for the laundry room. There, he started a wash cycle in the machine Evangeline had built.
The washing machine, powered by magic, could be used by anyone with magical abilities. Yohan, being a witch's disciple, was no exception.
Whirrr. The machine rumbled loudly, instantly separating the fluids from the blanket and sheet. It stopped in less than a few minutes.
Knowing this meant the cleaning was done, Yohan immediately pulled out the bedding. A wave of the erotic scent—the smell of vaginal fluid—wafted out from the machine.
Just smelling this is getting me hard again…
Yohan recalled the spectacle Evangeline had made of herself the day before yesterday. After they had sex, she couldn’t even support her own body, coming uncontrollably for hours.
The sun rose, noon passed, and even as the afternoon wore on, she continued to moan and climax. Yohan had no choice but to leave her alone for the entire day and night.
It was late evening by the time her day-long orgasm finally subsided, and Yohan had to sleep in a room drenched in his master’s scent and fluids.
I wonder if she’s awake by now.
A normal human would have probably died of dehydration after losing that much fluid. And that was no exception for a witch, who was far more resilient than an ordinary person.
Worried about her, Yohan grabbed a glass of water and headed to her room. He knocked gently, and before he could even speak, a hoarse voice came from inside.
—…Leave that there and stay far away.
“Yes, Master.”
Just from the sound of her cracked voice, he could guess how thirsty she must be. Considering the toll it must have taken on her, climaxing for an entire day, Yohan decided she needed a restorative meal. He headed for the yard to catch a chicken.
*
“Yo, pervy witch and disciple.”
“Pffft—!”
Evangeline, who was sitting in the living room having a meal, abruptly spat out the water she was drinking at the sound of Margaret’s voice from the other room.
Fortunately, she had simultaneously used magic to prevent the water from spraying everywhere. If she hadn’t, the liquid from her mouth would have soaked Yohan and Beatrice completely.
Quickly wiping her mouth, Evangeline glared at Margaret and spoke.
“Wh-what is that supposed to mean? Suddenly calling me a pervert…”
“How hard did you go at it to make you come for a whole day? You’re going to wear yourself out.”
“Hey—! Th-there’s a child here…!”
“Beatrice? She can’t hear us anyway because of the curse.”
Evangeline had quickly tried to use Beatrice as a shield, but Margaret reminded her of Beatrice’s curse, making it clear that her excuse was useless.
As Beatrice tilted her head, watching the adult witches point fingers at each other, Evangeline realized there was no way to stop that damned mouth from running. She hung her head low, her body trembling.
“So? How was it? Wasn’t it killer?”
“…Shut up.”
“Now you get why I slept with the disciple, right?”
“—That, I still haven’t forgiven you for that.”
The witch who had been trembling with embarrassment just moments ago was gone. Evangeline’s eyes blazed as she glared at Margaret. Her gaze was so murderous that Margaret took a slight step back. Evangeline snorted and turned her head away.
“…Well, I guess it might be a little tough for you to handle him alone. I’ll turn a blind eye when I’m not around.”
“Heeh, you’re right. Seeing you yesterday, you seem pretty lousy in bed. How about it? Want your big sis to teach you a thing or two?”
“Who’s your big sis? You think being born a few days earlier makes you my master?”
“Ah, right. Unlike you, I don’t have a useless pussy, so my teachings probably wouldn’t help you anyway.”
Just when it seemed like they were about to get along, the two were at each other’s throats again. Yohan watched them with a dumbfounded expression.
Amid his bewilderment, Beatrice, who had been quietly eating a whole chicken, tugged on his sleeve.
“What are they talking about…?”
“Ah… nothing important.”
“Reaally…?”
Yohan deliberately kept their conversation from Beatrice. A child’s innocence had to be protected. Even if that child was a witch who was actually several times his own age.
*
A brief lull followed as Evangeline and Margaret continued their meal in silence. They didn’t speak again until the meal was nearly finished, when the topic of Yohan came up.
“By the way, Yohan, are you planning to continue with that?”
“If you mean…”
“The instructor job. It doesn’t make sense for a witch’s disciple to be teaching Holy Knights, does it?”
Yohan nodded at Evangeline’s words. It wasn’t something he had to do, but it was necessary to some extent.
“I don’t plan on doing it forever.”
“Then?”
“Once I’ve built up a decent amount of trust… I plan to quit.”
“Trust? Why do you need trust?”
Seeing Evangeline tilt her head in confusion, Yohan gave a slight smile and began to explain why he needed it.
“First of all, Master. You don’t plan on living in a place like this forever, do you?”
“A place like this…? This place is great! It was hard enough to find this spot!”
“But it’s far from a civilized life. Don’t you want to live among other people, Master?”
“Not really. As long as I have you, Yohan, I don’t need anything else.”
Evangeline began to insist, like a pouting child. But Yohan knew that wasn’t the truth.
She needed him because he was the one who could relieve her of her curse.
Witches were people, humans, and humans are social animals. There was no way she enjoyed a daily life of being ostracized and hated because of a curse.
She had simply adapted. Like a water droplet piercing a rock, she had been weathered down, little by little, over hundreds of years.
“Then do it for me, not for you, Master. I’d rather live in a civilized place than here.”
“…Fine, well. If you want it that badly, Yohan, I suppose there’s no reason not to go to a city. So? What does that have to do with you being some Holy Knight instructor?”
“First, it helps create the perception that a Holy Knight instructor couldn’t possibly be a witch sympathizer. Second, in the long run, it can change the perception of the Holy Knights themselves.”
Evangeline tilted her head, not understanding immediately. She was smart and quick to grasp phenomena she observed, but she was inexperienced when it came to interpreting relationships between people.
It was likely a result of not being able to interact with others due to her curse. After all, people can’t learn what they haven’t experienced.
Left with no choice, Yohan began to lay out the future he envisioned.
“What I mean is… not all Holy Knights are bad people, just like Ludwig or Elesis.”
Ludwig had fallen in love with the very witch he was sent to kill and even had a child with her. And while Elesis had pursued him, she hadn’t attacked or shown unconditional hatred just because her opponent was a witch.
They were completely different from the Holy Knights Yohan had seen at the execution of the witch sympathizers in the city streets. It was only after becoming an instructor for the apprentice Holy Knights that he belatedly realized why.
“Those who lost their families to witches… or those who have been brainwashed by the Church for a long time. Those are the ones who become the so-called ‘bad’ Holy Knights who seethe at the mere sight of a witch.”
“…So in the end, most of them become bad Holy Knights, right?”
“No, this is just my thought, but… I think there are probably many Holy Knights like Ludwig within the Church.”
Ludwig had achievements worthy of being called the father of the Holy Knights. The fact that neither he nor his child was exterminated after he married a witch and had a child proves it.
And if a man like that could fall in love with a witch, then others certainly could too.
“They’re just keeping quiet because they don’t know one simple fact.”
“What’s that…?”
“The fact that there are pretty and kind witches like you, Master!”
He said it jokingly, but he was completely serious. Until now, the Church had been hunting down every witch they saw because the damage caused by a few insane ones was too great.
This strategy of overwhelming them with sheer numbers was surprisingly effective. Just as the Chinese had driven sparrows to extinction, they had succeeded in capturing or killing countless witches.
However, considering the true nature of the Church, they couldn’t persecute witches forever.
‘Love your enemy.’
Offering the right cheek to the one who strikes your left.
Mercy and compassion.
That was the essence of the Church.
“Little by little, if I keep changing the Holy Knights’ perceptions like this…”
In the very distant future, perhaps by the time Yohan was old and on his deathbed, an era where witches and the Church coexisted might arrive.
However, Margaret, who had been listening quietly beside them, raised her hand.
“Hey, you know, disciple.”
“Yes?”
“Wouldn’t it be faster if you just went around and fucked every witch you see?”
“…Excuse me??”
“I mean, the reason witches live alone and are persecuted is mostly because of that curse. If you go around fucking every last witch and get rid of their curses, not only would they have no reason to go on a rampage, but in the first place, no one would even be able to tell they’re witches…”
Listening to her, Yohan found himself nodding unconsciously.
Seeing him nod, Evangeline shot him a terrifying glare.
At that look, Yohan quickly opened his mouth.
“No, absolutely not.”
If he did something like that, he would be torn limb from limb within three days.
He felt it in his gut.
