The Livestock Research Institute (1)
After the passage of the Livestock Law, humans downgraded to livestock under the constitution were typically hauled off to the Livestock Factory. There, those judged as livestock were trained and modified according to their intended use before being released back into society. Most livestock released from that place were, biologically speaking, still close to humans. The reason was simple: since they were originally humans demoted to the status of livestock and turned into slaves, their fundamental biological traits couldn't be altered. Of course, they tried to distance them from humanity as much as possible through sexual sensitivity development and drug administration, but reality made it far from easy. Many things were outright impossible due to the inherent limits of the human body.
However, there existed another place similar yet different from the Livestock Factory. The key difference was that while the factory was open to the public, this place was shrouded in absolute secrecy. Where was it? The Livestock Research Institute.
Inside the institute, people were divided into just two classes: researchers and test subjects. Of course, if you got into the details, researchers had ranks, and test subjects came in various types—but in absolute terms, that was it.
Shinchi was a new recruit who had just entered the Livestock Research Institute. Naturally, anyone entering had their identity fabricated by the government. Only he and his colleagues knew he belonged to the institute. That was how secretive the place was. If word got out that the government was conducting research to turn citizens into livestock, the backlash would be uncontrollable. It wasn't hidden for nothing.
The institute's goal was the development of perfect human livestock, followed by their mass production.
"Welcome. I hear you've been assigned as a handler here starting today."
The man in front of Shinchi was the institute director. The director was introducing him to the layout of the facility.
"This is where genetic research is conducted."
As they approached under the director's guidance, he saw a scene reminiscent of a university lab. Countless glass tubes filled with liquid—and occasionally, people inside them. Or rather, it was easier to think of them as livestock in human form.
"Those are livestock undergoing genetic development. To be honest, we haven't achieved any real results yet."
Strictly speaking, altering already formed genes was an incredibly difficult task. Naturally, this place focused on researching specific aspects that could still be manipulated afterward. The flagship project was human dairy cows and other such livestock.
"Be careful entering from here on. Once you see this, you must never breathe a word of it outside."
The director's serious tone piqued Shinchi's curiosity about what lay ahead. After unlocking the double-layered security doors, they entered the lab—and an unbelievable sight unfolded.
"Ughhhhuuuk!!!"
Screams leaked continuously from mouths gagged shut. In the divided sections deeper inside, individual livestock were bound and subjected to all manner of experiments. Most sounds were agonized screams from the process.
"What is that...?"
Shinchi pointed to a woman covered in electrodes over her entire body. She wept endlessly, sniffling in distress.
"That's probably permanent sexual sensitivity development. Yeah, spot on."
Electrodes all over her body for sensitivity enhancement? Shinchi felt a twinge of pity, but that was the end of it. Enough time had passed since the Livestock Law's passage that they were now judged as livestock rather than humans.
There were many more test subjects after that, but Shinchi decided to check them out later. For now, he had to follow the director.
They arrived at the central area, following behind the director. The man smiled at Shinchi.
"You definitely recognize the face in here, right?"
What could prompt such a statement? Shinchi tilted his head in confusion. But once they stepped inside, the scene made the meaning clear.
"Director, isn't this...?"
Shinchi couldn't close his mouth at the sight before him.
"Correct."
And rightly so—the livestock right in front of them was someone impossible to forget.
"Yujin...?"
She was a face synonymous with the passage of the Livestock Law. That was Yujin. Word had it that after the law passed, she'd appeared on broadcasts and in the media for a while before settling into farm life as livestock. Her daughter Mitsuki was supposedly in the same boat.
So why was she here?

And in such an ominous state. Her body was riddled with unidentified hoses pumping in drugs nonstop. The injection sites had long since swollen red. Even back on those first broadcasts, Yujin's breasts had been impressively large. But what he saw now defied simple description with "big"—they ballooned out like inflated spheres. Her areolas had spread grotesquely wide, far beyond anything normal. Yet her abdomen remained taut, with just a hint of flesh and no sagging.
Her beauty was as striking as ever; it had stirred him plenty when he first saw her. Yujin flinched repeatedly under their gazes. Whether from climax or the drugs flooding her system, who could say.
"Yujin's currently being modified into a human dairy cow. We're almost at the final experimental stage."
Her swollen breasts did look strangely mesmerizing, like something out of a cow pasture.
"So that talk about the farm back then was a lie?"
"Not a lie. She went to the farm first, then came here for dairy cow body modification. If you want to touch, I'm afraid you'll have to give up. Even like this, Yujin's already owned by her buyer."
Nothing but disappointing news. Given the chance, Shinchi burned to modify Yujin himself. Anyone who claimed otherwise seeing that body would be lying.
Fortunately, the director offered some good news.
"Well, don't lose hope entirely. Once the tour's done, I'll assign you your livestock. It's a fresh one that came in today—look forward to it."
"Really?"
Each researcher at the institute was assigned one piece of livestock. Not just for sexual relief, of course. They had to produce viable human livestock using it. The scope was broad, though. Human livestock didn't have to mimic animals outright. Some researchers crafted human furniture. As long as the results were good, they'd get another assignment.
"Yes. Let's see what livestock you've been given... Ah, here it is. Name's Yukaho, huh?"
"Pretty name."
"Heard she came in with her sister today. Looks like one of them's under you."
"Great. I'll work hard and snag both sisters."
"Do your best. This place rewards performance."
The director handed Shinchi his employee ID along with various documents. They covered salary and the minutiae of corporate life. The key clause, naturally, banned any disclosure.
Shinchi stashed the papers in his room and hung the ID around his neck. It couldn't be worn outside. Exclusive to the institute.
<Livestock Research Institute>
<Processing Team / Human Furniture Division>
<Shinchi>
That was printed on his employee ID. Shinchi had been assigned to the Processing Team as a new staffer. He unpacked quickly, then headed straight to the unloading dock where livestock arrived—to meet Yukaho, his charge.
The dock was bound to be packed with livestock. To spot Yukaho right away, Shinchi made sure to grab her photo.
"Black hair, blue eyes? I like what I see."
As he walked, photo in hand, Shinchi's mind raced with eagerness to see her sooner. Oh, and one more thing: pondering what kind of furniture to turn her into.
