Chapter Title: Sitting Up in Shock While Dying of Illness
-------------------------------------
Evan obtained a massive harvest after going out to complete a quest with Gildarts...
First, he got an S-Class quest medal, which could upgrade any of his skills below level eight by one level. Of course, in Evan’s view, this medal was merely a secondary benefit. His true harvest was the broadening of his mindset!
In other words, if it was Evan before completing the quest with Gildarts, upon encountering unfamiliar terrain, he would definitely look for a familiar local to hire them as his guide. But after this trip, when he encountered unfamiliar terrain next time, he would directly make it become familiar...
If he couldn't change himself, then he would change all other factors that were disadvantageous to him...
This was the massive and precious experience that Evan had obtained!
"I’ve learned a lot!"
The boy looked at Gildarts and spoke softly.
"You’re still young. When you reach my age, you’ll naturally understand these things!"
Gildarts gently rubbed Evan's head. He sighed with emotion in his heart while thinking back to when he was still a good boy. Ever since he did a few quests with the still relatively young Makarov back then, he suddenly understood everything completely.
Simply put, this was the Fairy Tail mindset passed down from generation to generation!
Even Evan himself didn’t realize that he was being assimilated by this kind of mindset, gradually becoming Fairy Tail-ized...
Another day passed...
When the two returned to the guild, they found that the Guild Master had gone out.
It wasn't until they asked the guild members that they learned that not long after Makarov had heard that Evan and Gildarts went out to complete a quest, he had finished writing a self-reflection letter and voluntarily headed to the Magic Council...
The old man’s proficiency was somewhat heart-aching...
At the Magic Council...
"Anyway, accept this in advance first!
According to my experience, it’ll definitely be put to use!"
Makarov looked at his old friend in the Magic Council before him and handed over the apology letter he had written in advance.
"Alright, Maky!
You go back first! If the matter isn't too serious, I’ll figure out a way to help you smooth it over. If it involves too much though, you can come to the Council and apologize!
With your status as a Wizard Saint, a single apology should be enough to deal with them..."
Yajima kept one eye open and one eye closed. This was his usual habit on normal days, and it was also his attitude toward Fairy Tail.
"Yajima!"
After hearing his good friend's words, Makarov's eyes welled with tears, and he moved to embrace Yajima.
"Maky!"
Yajima also opened his arms while sighing with quite a bit of emotion in his heart.
"Cough, cough...
Pardon me!
Mr. Yajima, and Mr. Makarov, the Chairman of the Council has something to discuss with the two of you."
Just as the two were planning to embrace each other and deepen their mutual affection, a light cough interrupted them.
"Hmm?!"
Makarov and Yajima simultaneously retracted their actions and pulled some distance apart.
Although the two were as close as brothers, when it was time to avoid suspicion, they still had to avoid suspicion...
"Umm...
I wonder why he’s looking for me and Makarov?"
Yajima clasped his hands behind his back, bent his seemingly somewhat hunched waist, and asked the Magic Council soldier in front of him.
"Uh..."
Hearing this, the soldier glanced at Makarov in front of Yajima, seemingly somewhat hesitant about whether to answer the old man’s question.
"There is no harm in you speaking here!"
Yajima knew that this matter was probably related to Makarov, which was why the soldier hesitated on whether to say something in front of the old man. However, given his relationship with Makarov, even if he let the other know the matter in advance, it didn't matter.
"It’s like this...
Fairy Tail's mages, Gildarts and Evan, while completing the S-Class quest 'The Wyverns of the Scree Gale Mountains' issued by the Merchant Association, destroyed the 'Scree' Mountain Range."
The soldier hesitated for a moment, but still spoke the matter out.
"Oh..."
Yajima nodded, indicating that he understood, and continued to ask.
"How much was destroyed?!"
"..."
The soldier glanced at the pale-faced Makarov, took a deep breath, and replied.
"All of it!"
"All of it?!"
Hearing this, Yajima's eyes widened. He remembered that although the entire length of the Scree Mountain Range wasn't long, it was still several dozen kilometers, right?!
"Yes, Fairy Tail's mages Gildarts and Evan opened a massive hole in the mountain range, annihilating the entire Gale Mountains, along with the Gale Valley, including the wyverns inside the valley. Now, that place has already turned from a mountain range into a plain..."
As the soldier spoke, he took out a map and handed it to Yajima.
"This is a new map we hurriedly produced. It’s currently being distributed across the entire continent, with instructions for them to promptly replace the old maps!"
"Let me take a look..."
Yajima took the map from the soldier's hands, and his eyes widened once again. Even that eye of his that remained closed year-round opened up. He saw that the place on the map previously marked as the Gale Mountains had indeed been changed to a plain...
"Maky, this matter..."
Yajima swallowed a mouthful of saliva, turned around, and looked at his old comrade. Honestly speaking, this matter was a bit too big. Even he would find it hard to suppress it.
"Disaster! What a disaster!
Evan and Gildarts teaming up truly is a disaster!!"
Thud~
It was also the instant Yajima turned his body around that he saw Makarov clutching his heart and collapsing onto the ground. It seemed as if a soul was slowly floating out from the old man’s body...
"This is bad! Doctor, quick, call a doctor!"
Yajima’s expression changed drastically as he looked at the seemingly dead Makarov on the floor, and he immediately ordered the soldier beside him to go call a doctor.
"Yes, sir!"
The soldier also couldn't care about anything else and immediately ran toward the Council Hall behind him.
"Maky! Makarov! Don't scare me!"
Yajima hugged Makarov's body, which was paralyzed on the ground, and shouted nervously.
Because his voice was very loud, a pot-bellied man wearing a suit who was just planning to enter the Council Hall heard his voice, immediately ran in his direction, and asked excitedly.
"Makarov? Is it that Makarov from Fairy Tail?"
"Maky, Makarov’s in poor health. No matter what your reason for looking for him, please wait until he gets better before you say it!"
Yajima glared angrily at this pot-bellied man in front of him. He treated the man in front of him as one of Makarov's enemies.
"Makarov’s sick? This is truly terrible! Actually, I came to the Magic Council this time to represent our Merchant Association and express our gratitude to Guild Master Makarov, the Wizard Saint of Fairy Tail! We want to thank him for dispatching the two mages, Evan and Gildarts. Not only did they help us drive away the annoying wyverns, but they also helped us carve out a road that leads directly to another country! This has made it much more convenient for us when conducting our business there!"
Speaking up to here, the merchant paused for a moment. He took out a check from his pocket, and only then did he continue to speak.
"Right, to express our gratitude, our Merchant Association has pooled together another fifty million Jewels. Although it isn't much, it’s also to express some of our sincerity to Fairy Tail! After all..."
"Is that so? Although collecting extra money from an employer is bad behavior, seeing as how you repeatedly insist, I’ll accept this sum of money!"
Before the merchant could finish his words, Makarov, who was originally lying on the ground, had already arrived in front of the potbellied man and simultaneously taken the check from his hand.
"So fast!"
Yajima and the chubby merchant stared with wide, round eyes at Makarov, who had stood up from the ground, resurrected, and taken the check at a speed difficult for the naked eye to follow.
"Is this the legendary sitting up in shock while dying of illness*?"
The chubby merchant felt that his horizons had been greatly broadened!

*A famous Chinese internet meme derived from a classic poem by Yuan Zhen. It’s humorously used to describe someone who’s sick, asleep, or ignoring everything, but suddenly jolts awake upon hearing something shocking.
T/N - Lol, this is another reason why I liked this novel. The author really nailed the Fairy Tail comedy, at least in the earlier chapters. No clue how they did after the first 100 chapters or so. Fingers crossed. 😅
Also, I was right. The MC got corrupted. And it seems like it’s Makarov’s fault in the first place for teaching Gildarts the same thing as the latter is teaching to the MC. And he wonders why he keeps having to write self-reflection letters to the Magic Council…
