The Dean's Doomed Election
“Goddamn it! All those countryside bitch stories are total bullshit!” Ling Xue Ya cursed inwardly. This time, she'd finally learned her lesson, kneeling obediently on the ground and following Xiao Yi's orders without a peep.
Xiao Yi tugged on the chain, settling into a chair. He casually spread his legs and shot her a look.
Tears streaming down her face, Ling Xue Ya crawled over meekly...
“I'm here today, obviously, to bring you all some food. But before I hand it out, we're gonna play a little game first!”
Xiao Yi's lips curled into a faint, cruel smile. “To make sure you all survive better, we can't keep relying on me alone to scrounge for food and water out there, right? What if I get myself killed? You'd all starve to death. So, you need to pick someone else to step up!”
“I suggest we vote on someone to go out there just like I did—brave the zombie hordes and bring back food and water for everyone.”
The survivors in the warehouse exchanged uneasy glances. They weren't idiots; far from it—these people were sharp as hell.
Anyone but Xiao Yi heading out there was a suicide mission!
Xiao Yi was doing this purely for revenge!
That's right—his goal was to make them feel exactly what he'd felt back then.
“Alright! Everyone come grab a piece of paper and a pen from me. Write down the person you think is most suitable. I'll tally the votes! The one with the most gets to be our brave explorer.”
Xiao Yi flashed a devilish grin, his voice dripping with sinister menace as he spoke slowly.
“How could we make our benefactor do the tallying yourself? Let me handle it for everyone! As your dean, I won't join this election!” Du Zhi Ming said with a shameless grin plastered on his face, crawling over to Xiao Yi's side like a fawning dog.
Xiao Yi yanked away the diligently working Ling Xue Ya and surged to his feet, slamming a brutal kick right into Du Zhi Ming's face. “When the fuck did I ask for your input? Did I say I was taking suggestions?”
Du Zhi Ming gritted his teeth through the agony, spitting out blood and a few teeth as he writhed on the ground, wailing, “I know I was wrong! Please, benefactor, spare me! I won't dare do it again!”
Xiao Yi stomped down on him a few more times before waving dismissively. “Start now!”
The papers and pens were handed out one by one. Everyone eyed each other warily, silently questioning their neighbors with desperate glances.
Everyone knew getting picked meant death. It was no different from a death sentence.
No one wanted to die! Everyone hoped the unlucky bastard would be someone else—anyone but them!
Soon, the slips were piled up in front of Xiao Yi.
From their glances earlier, Xiao Yi had already guessed the outcome.
He glanced at Du Zhi Ming, who was missing half his teeth and covered in blood, then beckoned him with a smile. “Old Du! Get over here. You're reading the votes.”
A flash of wild joy crossed Du Zhi Ming's eyes. He scrambled to Xiao Yi's side, snatched a slip, and prepared to announce it loudly.
But the name on it left him stunned.
Xiao Yi slapped him hard across the face. “Read it!”
“Du... Du Zhi Ming... one vote...” Du Zhi Ming read with a mournful face, then opened another. “Du... Du... Du Zhi Ming, two votes...”
Seven or eight slips in a row—all for Du Zhi Ming...
Du Zhi Ming collapsed to the floor, trembling in utter despair.
The others let out quiet sighs of relief.
Xiao Yi stood with a cold sneer.
He looked down at the kneeling crowd, then addressed Du Zhi Ming. “I'll give you two choices.”
“One: Go out there and die like a good boy.”
“Two: Open the warehouse door, let the zombies wipe everyone out here—and maybe you get a shot at surviving.”
As Xiao Yi's words sank in, the kneeling survivors looked up at Du Zhi Ming in horror, their eyes pleading desperately.
“Dean Du! One death is better than all of us dying!”
“Dean Du! As the dean, you should sacrifice for the greater good!”
“Professor Du! We've always listened to you, always respected you! You can't screw us over!!”
“Professor Du, didn't you always say we should be brave, willing to sacrifice? One for the many! We've always believed you're that noble!”
“Professor Du! You always made others sacrifice—now it's your turn, right?”
The crowd erupted in a frenzy, urging Du Zhi Ming with heated pleas.
Listening to their hypocritical bullshit, Du Zhi Ming's face twisted into something hideous and terrifying, until he finally snapped. “Why the fuck should I sacrifice? Why not you? Just 'cause I'm the teacher?! Go die! All of you die!!!”
Du Zhi Ming roared like a madman, his features contorted in a savage laugh. “I choose to open the warehouse door and let you cheap fucks all die!!!”
“Die!!”
“All of you motherfuckers die!!!”
