The Weak Cannot Become Main Gods
The Goddess Department had a clear rule: the weak could never become a Main God or the Lord God of the Divine Realm. Yet here they were, dragging bloodline successors into the Main God Star where their protection would be amplified, forcibly elevating them to Main God status and trying to groom them as the next Lord God of the Divine Realm. The sight turned the Dimensional and War God’s stomach.
With such a pathetic mindset, I have no idea how they expect to win the authentication trial against the Demon King. When I return to the Divine Realm, I’ll skewer them all on the super-giant Main God-Slaying Spear.
Having settled his thoughts, the Dimensional and War God secretly eavesdropped on the primordial war gods frantically exchanging their wills.
The real problem was that the Main God of the Divine Realm was absent, while the Dimensional and War God himself stood right in front of them, radiating killing intent and fighting spirit so thick it felt like blades against their skin.
If we slip up even slightly, the Dimensional Lord will come for our lives. We need to reduce our forces.
Just now, the killing intent and fighting spirit he showed at the former War God’s location was clearly a declaration of war. We must be careful and try to gloss over everything.
Ugh! This is exactly how it was in the old days. We nearly got marked by everyone and shipped off to the front lines without a single reward!
It was almost comical. Not a single one of them suspected that the sly raccoon Main God had been the one spreading those vicious rumors about him.
I don’t know how he’s lived that even his own subordinate gods have zero trust in him.
The round table conference hall had become a powder keg ready to explode.
Even before I arrived, it seems there was friction between the female gods and the primordial war gods. That’s none of my concern.
The God of Knowledge was standing in for the absent Main God of the Divine Realm, but his divine power was insufficient for true control.
At this rate it looks like it could escalate into civil war. That is the last thing I want.
He still needed the Divine Realm to prosper until he finished making contracts with every goddess and raised his innate divine power through the Devotion Pledge.
If they tear the Divine Realm apart fighting each other and the goddesses lose their power, the long-term contract becomes an endless burden with no end in sight.
That was completely unacceptable.
Snap!
With a light flick of his fingers, he summoned the items he had prepared beforehand—fist-sized divine power enhancement gems filled with Nectar, the sap of the World Tree. The sap of the Cosmic Tree was simply too valuable and would have placed them under too much obligation, so he had chosen this instead.
Its value is easily enough to purchase a small personal temple in this Divine Realm. For me, it only costs a bit of magic power, so it’s of no consequence.
These gifts had been prepared to gain some favorable public opinion while establishing the lower divine realms in the Middle World.
To be blunt, they’re bribes. They say “don’t oppose just for the sake of opposing,” and it’s far too annoying to persuade each one individually with words.
When he summoned the priceless Nectar before the thousand highest gods of the Main God Temple, they seemed startled at first. Then their eyes widened like saucers as they recognized its true worth.
This Divine Realm isn’t poor, but it isn’t wealthy either. That’s why they’re so shocked by mere gems or luxury goods.
Highest gods from other Main God Star realms would have considered this merely precious, not something to gawk at so openly. Thanks to balanced development there was no extreme concentration of wealth, but the level of luxury and refinement here was simply too low.
“Everyone, please enjoy. This is simple courtesy after receiving so much compensation for my recent mercenary work.”
“Ho—! How refreshing. Is this Nectar? I’ll gladly accept.”
The God of Knowledge’s admiring voice rang out as he uncorked one of the gem bottles and drank. A faint glow spread across his body, and the imbalance in his divine power was partially corrected.
Seeing this, the other highest gods drank as well.
In other divine realms, Nectar is a reward reserved for high gods who have accomplished great feats. In this realm where war gods and battle gods are constantly pushed back by the Goddess Department, the chance to drink it is extremely rare.
The high gods who had finished their Nectar were now fiddling with the empty gem containers. Since the vessels themselves were several times more valuable than their contents, they seemed to be debating whether they should return them.
“There is no need to feel burdened. Consider it a gift for my return from mercenary service. In exchange, I simply ask that you assist with the former War God’s operational duties.”
At those words their faces brightened visibly. They all accepted the gifts without hesitation. Smiles bloomed across every face. Since they had all received the gifts openly and publicly, there was no fear of criticism.
Even the primordial gods who had been pretending to be half-dead old men earlier were now grinning from ear to ear. Naturally the female Main Gods and goddesses were equally delighted; the previous hostility had completely vanished.
The atmosphere had grown so pleasant that any comment would be received favorably.
As expected, the power of free gifts and bribes is truly tremendous. If loyalty and goodwill can be bought with material goods, only a fool would hesitate to spend it.
Drawing on his battlefield experience, he calmly observed the flow of the round table conference.
Everyone is overjoyed by this sudden windfall. The meeting is proceeding smoothly.
The conference had already begun in earnest. Countless requests and reports from each god’s domain in the Middle World were being processed. Proposals that began with the highest lower gods were immediately handled if simple enough. Matters that could not be resolved were passed to higher gods. Intermediate gods would then address those, and anything still impossible would rise again to the upper gods. In the end, lower gods handled the simple, high-volume tasks while the more difficult ones fell to the stronger upper gods. As a result, there were no idle deities and almost no unresolved matters.
It is a divine realm structure that places extreme emphasis on efficiency and productivity.
Most requests from believers in the Middle World had nothing to do with war. Even with an overwhelmingly large number of goddesses, there were no significant problems. The Main God Star itself was vast, its planets rich and fertile, so conflicts between nations were almost nonexistent. The primordial war gods were practically yawning from boredom at the stability.
Furthermore, since so many matters were related to prosperity and abundance, nearly all goddesses—except those specialized in production and birth—handled administrative duties as well.
This is why people say the war gods and battle gods have surplus manpower.
Vitality was distributed immediately according to both the quantity and quality of work completed. Gods in combat-related fields who had almost no duties could only sigh. The system had been refined across eternity; every task was handled instantly. The vitality and divine power that flowed in as compensation for answering believers’ prayers filled the entire Divine Realm with vibrant energy.
Finally, the unresolved issues that even the highest gods could not handle were placed before the highest-ranking deities at the round table.
These were the real matters.
Only now does real tension fill the round table conference room.
A situation that made one instinctively want to close their eyes unfolded right before them.
The proposal submitted by male gods of intermediate rank and below regarding an upper-god quota system for male gods has been rejected.
Reason: Discrimination by gender constitutes inequality.
“In the past when goddesses were the minority, we passed a quota system for them, did we not? So why is it suddenly inequality and discrimination now? Guarantee the rights of male gods as well—!”
The God of Knowledge and the male gods shouted until their veins bulged, but the almighty majority vote of the Divine Realm moved forward regardless.
“By majority vote, the proposal has been rejected.”
“This is ridiculous—! This is tyranny of the majority!”
“We cannot possibly pass a proposal that violates our very principles—!”
“Then what happened to the consideration for the weak that you yourself once advocated?”
The collision had finally come. The conference hall turned into pandemonium in an instant, voices rising in a chaotic storm.
Majority vote? Ninety percent of the positions the male gods desire are already occupied by goddesses. If such a proposal passed, their own seats would vanish. Rejection is only natural. The Divine Realm is no longer in its expansion phase like before; it has stabilized and positions are limited. The male gods who first enshrined unequal, discriminatory rights into law are the real fools. Did they honestly believe that when the situation reversed, the goddesses would show them the same consideration? If you reject it now while upholding principles, that should be the end of it. The generosity of those in power should have limits—this level is practically mental illness.
The God of Knowledge’s face had turned bright red as he shouted, yet his eyes remained cold. He already knew the outcome.
That’s just an act. It’s obvious the proposal violates the principle of equality and cannot be approved. But if he lets it pass without resistance, he’ll lose the support of the male gods and his own seat among the highest gods at the round table will be endangered. Hence, the performance.
The female Main Gods, understanding the situation, responded with indifferent, half-hearted counterarguments.
There is nothing more foolish than fighting sincerely against an opponent who isn’t being sincere. Is the position of war god truly in danger? Unless we’re talking about the Demon Star or a world currently undergoing an authentication trial, such danger is almost nonexistent in the Main God Star.
The planets were simply too vast. Human armies would grow old and die of old age before they could even march to another country. National-level wars were therefore nonexistent, vitality compensation was nearly zero, and no gods bothered to target such positions.
Otherwise, why would the direct descendant gigolo of a highest Main God even qualify as a highest god? If anyone actually wanted the seat I would throw it to them immediately and leave this ridiculous Divine Realm behind. No… thanks to the Devotion Pledge contracts I made with the goddesses, even that is no longer possible.
If he intervened, he could change the flow of events. But he had no desire to dive headfirst into this cesspool.
There is no reason to act without receiving proper compensation.
After that, proposals requesting improved rights for male gods continued to pour in one after another. Each time, the same comical farce repeated itself.
I saw nothing. I heard nothing. Therefore I keep my mouth shut.
The Dimensional and War God felt as though he could fall asleep with his eyes open while watching the male gods’ desperate, futile struggle to reclaim the privileges that had been granted to the goddesses.
