After another run-through wrapped up, Myeongjeon nodded in satisfaction. It was a relief that Hyeona had snapped out of it so quickly on keys. If she'd stayed in that funk, they might've been in a real pickle.
Seoha grinned, while Hyeona—the culprit behind the slip-up—looked sheepish. Then Iseo piped up casually.
"Phew, crisis averted~ So, we good to do a proper show now?"
"Eh... still got some rough edges. Especially the bass."
"Ugh."
Iseo pulled an exaggerated wince, like I'd stabbed her in the sore spot. But Myeongjeon ignored it and kept going.
"All the songs you brought are tough on bass. That third one? Honestly, it looks too much for your level live."
"I can do it!"
"Sure, you can. But practicing at home and nailing it on stage? Totally different beasts."
Myeongjeon swept her hair back. She knew Iseo was putting in the work. Lately, she'd been assigning her two hours of evening practice daily and checking progress remotely. Iseo was sticking to it... but sticking to it wasn't quite enough.
"I see you're trying. Keep this up, and you'll be stage-ready. The crowd'll think, 'Eh, not bad.'"
"Oh..."
"But performers can't settle for that."
The audience might not notice—or care. They might clock the bass being off, or not even know what bass is. They might think it's fine, or even good. But the performer? She knows her own level. If it's not satisfying, she should feel ashamed and grind to improve.
"Dunno what you think, but to me, you're not stage-ready yet. Practice more, lock in the tempo. Get to where you can play tabs blind, eyes closed, no metronome."
"Got it."
Iseo nodded at Suyeon's words. She knew her weaknesses all too well. Lately, she'd been thinking maybe it was good enough... but that fresh whip-crack had refocused her.
Suyeon's guitar skills are beyond imagination. Way past what I thought at first.
