11. The Pinnacle of Modern Civilization (3)
The police substation was unsettled, but it wasn't particularly loud or chaotic.
There was a certain atmosphere to a police station. The kind that made you feel you shouldn't cause a scene.
Anyone in their right mind would act that way.
Coming all the way here to raise your voice and cause a scene meant you were a complete asshole. That much was basic decency.
Well, I probably would have thought the same thing until this morning.
Because I was a law-abiding, upstanding citizen and a corporate slave.
But that wasn't how I felt now. I was trembling slightly with excitement.
The feeling of exposing myself defenselessly while trying to kill people was strange.
In a situation where I had no idea when or how an attack might come, being this nonchalant was truly absurd.
Just standing here like this was a thrill.
On top of that, I could deceive all of them perfectly.
I couldn't use it right now since I was exposed in front of everyone, but if I set my mind to it, I could vanish from their five senses at any time. Completely.
Deception that fools everyone. A sense of superiority hidden from them.
That drove me crazy. I had really become warped.
The police led us to a room.
Seeing a beam projector at the front and long benches, it looked like a place where you'd receive some kind of training.
And there were a lot of people sitting there. Probably the ones who'd been outside earlier asking to be let in.
Well, these humans weren't worth paying attention to.
What I needed was guns and bullets. Not these one-Coin humans.
"Um, excuse me.... Where's the restroom...?"
"Ah. Go outside and it's on the right."
"Thank you."
I gave a slight bow to the officer who'd guided me and headed to the restroom.
The moment I entered the restroom, it felt as though something was bursting over and over inside my head.
Now this place was going to become hell. No one knew how many people would survive here.
It would depend on how many bullets I got.
Now that time had come. They were going to die without anyone knowing.
I stepped into a toilet stall. Then I used Invisibility.
After that, I checked the revolver loaded with five live rounds and pulled out the other revolver.
I removed the blanks still in it and loaded the five live rounds I'd gotten earlier.
But what do you call this thing? It's made so you can pop them in and out all at once. Some kind of magazine concept?
Anyway, I now had two revolvers loaded with five rounds each.
Holding one in each hand, it looked kind of ridiculous. This was dual-wielding, right? Not that I planned to shoot like this.
So I slung my bag over my shoulder and stepped out of the restroom with a gun in each hand.
Not having to be quiet was such a relief.
So I went to where the officers were and casually took a look around.
Still a busy place. Including men and women, there were eight police officers in total.
Three standing in front of the desk, two sitting at the desk, three sitting at the desks in back.
For now, it was a number I could kill with two guns. So I'd have to do it right, without mistakes.
Honestly, it didn't feel that difficult.
With the ability of my skill and the revolvers in my hands, if I couldn't pull this off, I didn't deserve to survive.
I might as well stick a sign saying 'moron' on my forehead. No excuses—I'd just have to die quietly.
The three standing in front of the desk. Those bastards first.
They were closest to the door, so I had to deal with them first. If they ran, it would get annoying.
So I aimed at where the heart would be from behind one of them. And pulled the trigger.
Bang! A message popped up along with the sound. And the guy crumpled to the floor.
"Huh!? Officer Park?"
The two men beside him hurriedly dropped down over the fallen man.
So I fired two more shots right away. Calmly. One at each head.
Bang! Bang! With those sounds, the two of them collapsed on top of the first one.
Then the two who'd been sitting at the desk stood up, craned their necks to look under the desk, and their eyes went wide.
Two more shots rang out with a slight interval, and those two fell as well.
Then the three sitting at the back desks hurriedly drew their guns and ducked down.
Watching them, I swapped the guns between my left and right hands.
Then I went around the desk and shot them one by one. Bang! Bang! Bang!
Message windows popping up was a good thing. I could tell intuitively whether these humans were dead or alive.
Eight bullets, eight lives, eight Coins.
The armed police officers met their deaths like that.
Good people. People who hadn't abandoned their duty even in this situation.
Kind bastards who, until the moment they died, had been worrying about what this situation was and what they should do.
They died. Without making a single sound. Miserably.
Because the gunshots were only audible to me, no one inside the police station knew they were dead.
Thinking about it, what a shame.... Dying without anyone even realizing it. Tsk.
I gathered up the guns. First, I shoved them into my bag.
Based on my earlier experience, I searched their bodies too. And recovered the bullets.
From what I could see, each person carried eight rounds. Roughly that number.
And they hadn't fired a single shot yet.
Seriously. How good are the people of this country? Why hadn't the police fired even one shot?
I didn't count exactly, but at eight rounds per person, that was at least sixty-four rounds secured.
Well, that probably wasn't all. If I looted this substation more, plenty of bullets would turn up. I'd look for those slowly.
Around the time I'd recovered all the guns and bullets, the substation door opened.
Two officers coming in. One man, one woman. They opened the door and startled.
My gun, with two rounds left, spat fire immediately.
The second officer got to live as much longer as it took me to reload. Not that there was much difference from the one who died first.
I dragged the two of them inside as well. Then took the guns and bullets they were carrying.
Ten shots, ten kills. I'd become a legendary marksman who never missed.
Of course, it'd be embarrassing to miss when shooting someone point-blank. I had my skill to thank for that.
Ah. No, wait. It was eleven shots and eleven kills, wasn't it? I killed one outside earlier too, right? Well, not that it matters.
Anyway, I reloaded the revolvers. They only held five rounds, so I filled both and held one in each hand again.
Then I went back to where I'd been led before. And starting with the people sleeping curled up, I shot them one by one.
No one noticed that the person next to them had died.
The first to notice was a woman. When I'd killed about thirteen people, she frowned, turned her head, and sniffed the air.
Probably the smell of blood. So I shot her too.
When the woman crumpled, the man next to her whipped his head around.
I shot him too. Then reloaded again. Leisurely and relaxed.
"Uh.... Uhh!?"
"Wh-what the hell!?"
This time two of them noticed. And at those voices, a few of the ones still alive lifted their heads.
So I shot again. There was only one entrance to this place anyway. If I stood here and fired, none of them could do a thing.
"Aaaagh!"
A man screaming. Thanks to him, everyone left woke up.
So I shot them one by one. Reloading took a little time, but that wasn't a big problem.
Like that, everyone in the room died without putting up any resistance, just panicking.
Ten police officers killed just now. Twenty-two civilians killed now.
They were all worth one Coin each. That brought my total to 145 Coins.
Ha. Was it over now? Was every human in this substation dead?
Just in case, I checked one by one. I searched every room and went through the entire three-story building.
I found three more people and shot them dead.
They didn't even know what killed them. They were startled by the suddenly opening door and died just like that.
I came back down to the first floor and went to the locked firearms storage room.
Since I couldn't find the key, I shot the handle. There were bound to be bullets inside, so there was no need to conserve now.
I opened it and went in. Inside were guns with chains connected to their trigger guards. Beside them were bullets too.
I swept everything into my bag. There was a decent amount, so I wouldn't have to worry about bullets for a while.
It felt refreshing. It had gone too well. It couldn't have gone better than this.
Invisible Man. What an insanely good skill.
Especially the part about leaving no presence—that was broken. Without it, this wouldn't have succeeded like this.
There were definitely plenty of bastards out there with cheat skills like mine, right?
I was curious. What kind of skills were out there?
The problem was I had no way of finding out. No one was going to run their mouth and tell me their skill.
Anyway, enough. I'd accomplished all my objectives.
It was a little regrettable that I shot all the women too.... Well, it didn't matter. Women would be overflowing everywhere.
I'd slept a bit earlier, so I wasn't sleepy. And it was only just 1 a.m. now. 1 a.m. was a bit early for sleeping.
Even when I worked at the company, I didn't sleep until past 2. Just yesterday, too.
So my night wasn't over yet. If anything, it was just beginning.
I left the substation. There was nothing left for me here. This place was like a treasure chest I'd opened.
A treasure chest in the village chief's house. A chest sitting right out in the open, asking to be taken.
I opened it. And got items that would let me get through the early game easily.
So now I could leave the chief's house. No need to come back.
As I stepped outside, I saw a man walking over from that direction.
Tall, tattoos visible on his arms, a swaggering walk, and yellow hair.
Huh. No way. Was that the guy I'd heard about earlier? The one who blew up things he touched?
The guy walked over, looked at the substation, and smiled. Then he strode confidently this way.
A laugh escaped me. No. What made this bastard so confident? What a joke.
Of course, he couldn't see my smile. Because I was invisible to him.
The yellow-haired guy brushed right past me. And I raised my pistol, aimed at his head, and pulled the trigger.
Bang!
[You have acquired 42 Coins. To use Coins, please say 'Use Coins.']
And just like that, the yellow-haired guy died. Handing over 42 Coins to me.
