Prologue: Never Accomplished Anything
I'd never accomplished a single thing.
I'd never put in any effort for anything.
Not once...
Our family's poverty wasn't met with hard work or solutions—it was answered with nothing but lamentation and resentment.
My parents tried harder than anyone.
But the only fruits of their labor were stress and poverty.
Because of that, I never bothered to try.
They'd already proven what effort got you.
Was there anything I'd done wrong to deserve that poverty?
Why should I bear that karma on my back and toil dozens, hundreds of times harder than everyone else?
I kept asking myself that, over and over.
In the end, I decided there was no need.
And just like that, my path went completely, utterly astray.
