The Infinite Warehouse
The angel with an aura overflowing with fighting spirit looked like she was about to explode from sheer vitality.
Dazzled by her grandeur for a moment, I almost forgot to speak when Kim Gichan suddenly stepped forward and greeted her.
“Yo~ Angel-nim has arrived. You’re still slaying it today!”
“Ah, you’re the store clerk~ New clerk, huh? Heading back home soon?”
“Congratulations!”
“I’ve got a few more days left, haha! But before I go home… how about dinner together?”
This guy is way too obvious.
Yet the angel answered with a smile that seemed to purify even Kim Gichan’s desires.
“Thank you~ But I’m not your type, remember?”
“Khh, rejected again.”
“How many times is that now?”
“Thirty-second time…”
Yeah, some trees just refuse to fall no matter how many times you chop them down. After watching the holy fortress that was the angel’s heart topple my senior coworker, I turned back to the truck.
The 10-ton truck was absolutely massive. Opening the rear door and seeing a convenience store warehouse full of goods made me a little nervous.
“……Is all this from the convenience store?”
“Uhm~ Only up to the inner half!”
With that, the angel headed for the back of the truck and opened the door.
Inside the truck, the most eye-catching item was a cart that I’d seen used for loading and unloading cargo. They were lined up side by side, each cart with its wheels fully packed with goods.
The blue boxes I recognized as FF products filled only five of the carts. The rest held various other logistics. And behind those were still more full carts. Plus, the truck had partitions so the stacks reached three layers high.
Staring at the mountain of logistics boxes already made me wonder if I’d skipped health insurance for my aching back.
“Then I’ll come inside and unload the products!”
The angel hopped lightly inside the truck with a little bounce. A pair of wings flapped once.
“Wait, I’ll help too.”
I stared blankly at her wings for a second before quickly grabbing the truck bed. The quantity of goods was one thing, but actually unloading them looked tough.
Still, two or three people would move things faster than one. I said that out loud. The angel shook her head with a bright smile.
“Sorry~ I really appreciate the thought, but the human store clerk is too weak—help won’t be needed!”
She’d turned down Kim Gichan just like this. The angel packed a serious punch with her radiant smile.
“But still…”
“Kid, just let the angel do her thing.”
Kim Gichan had already recovered and grabbed my shoulder.
“How do you plan to carry all this alone?”
“Exactly. We’re just watching. Weak humans just have to patiently watch the angel carry the FF boxes.”
His oddly cheerful and gentle expression made me want to punch him. Still, the senior who clearly knew more about the convenience store life than I did. I glanced between Kim Gichan and the angel a couple times before deciding to follow his advice.
I stood by the truck rear expecting the angel to hand me a box, thinking I’d just receive it, when…
“Whoosh~”
“…Huh?”
Wait, angel.
She wasn’t even lifting a product box—how was she picking up two carts with one hand each? Where was this holy power coming from?
… Her chest?
“See? Told you we don’t need you.”
“Annoying, but the hyung is right.”
“Hey. What wrong did I do?”
I glared at Kim Gichan once more.
Then I watched the angel leap back up and descend to the ground carrying two carts. First, landing smoothly. Then, thud. Kwoong.
The footsteps of an adult woman hopping and landing should have been light, but the sound of her setting the carts down was heavy.
“Just unload these blue boxes! I’ll take care of the rest. Oh, and don’t hurt yourselves!”
That kindness wasn’t just trying to make me feel good—it sounded like a warning born of experience. Thinking that, I felt strangely pleased.
“Quit daydreaming and hurry up and unload. Remember the angel’s working speed is faster than ours, kid.”
At Kim Gichan’s words I snapped back to attention and carried two FF boxes inside the store. The boxes felt quite heavy once the goods were loaded.
“…Ugh.”
I want that holy power.
***
Unloading the FF products didn’t take long. Half of what I saw were things I’d never seen before, but they all had names. Anyway, sorting them was basically the same as the store’s usual work.
By the time I finished, the angel had almost finished sorting the non-FF logistics too.
“Thank you~ I just need to put a few more carts in the backroom and we’re done!”
At that point, my curiosity couldn’t be contained.
How could the backroom be so enormous that all those dozens of carts full of goods disappeared into it?
What if I actually went inside and it was nothing but untidy stacks like a mountain?
“Exactly how is the backroom structured?”
My question made the angel’s eyes widen as she tilted her head.
“Ah~ You never went in?”
“Yeah, not yet.”
“I’ll show you!”
She naturally reached out and lifted one of the logistics boxes from inside a cart as if it weighed nothing. The box below it had five more the same size stacked on top—looking at it gave me serious reality whiplash.
“Angels really are super strong.”
“Thank you~ It’s not all of us, I’m just a bit strong!”
By the way, the sight of those enormous breasts acting like box stands… made me feel weird just watching.
… Angel holy power is insane.
I could guess why Kim Gichan reacted the same way.
I followed the angel to the warehouse door and opened it.
“…What is this?”
I’d imagined an apocalyptic mountain of damaged stock, but thankfully that level of disaster didn’t exist. Instead, it was perfectly clean.
Rows of pillars spaced like a chessboard. Between each pillar stood product display racks arranged by category so you could spot anything instantly.
The warehouse, organized with near-perfect grid precision, would leave any former convenience store worker stunned. “It’s this clean?”
But I couldn’t picture Kim Gichan doing it. The thought wasn’t just because it felt unbelievable—it had another, more certain reason.
“This is…”
I turned my head left.
The area straight ahead stretched all the way to the end of my vision.
Then I looked right.
Right next to the door was a wall with a monitor for searching stock. A little farther in, another identical product section stretched endlessly to the right. Space that one or two people could never finish.
“…What is this?”
“Amazing, right? The spot right in front is called the main sector! And the product sections continue long in all directions—left, right, front, and back!”
Half-listening to the angel’s explanation, I looked at the main sector again.
“Each sector is divided into nine areas. The main light is in the center of the sector.”
Sure enough, the very center of the main sector glowed with pure white light. The surrounding areas in the other eight parts also had lights, so it wasn’t pitch black, but they were much dimmer than the main light.
Nine areas forming one sector.
“Um… how many of these sectors are there?”
“Uhm…”
The angel propped her chin on her hand.
“Fewer than the dimensions exchanged in Sanctum City!”
That was her answer.
We usually don’t describe things as “fewer.”
I’d realized it earlier, but from the outside the convenience store glass door and the space outside it were actually just another sector extending infinitely inside the backroom.
Kim Gichan had been vague not because he was lazy, but because the explanation was genuinely unclear.
“All right, let’s start sorting the goods!”
The angel headed to the right side of the backroom entrance carrying a box.
A few meters from the door stood a steel wall jutting out about two meters, like a hotel front desk. A recessed area on the wall looked like a perfect spot to set down boxes or products.
“Put them here~”
I placed the box in the recessed area exactly as she said.
“And press the bell on this side!”
I noticed it was the small bell we used to use when me and Haligal were dating.
I glanced at the angel’s expression and cautiously pressed it.
Ding.
A clear metallic ring echoed through the warehouse before fading.
Clang.
Then the front shutter of the counter lowered with a strange whirring sound, and in the blink of an eye the shutter rose again.
“Ta-da~”
When the shutter opened, the box I’d placed inside was gone—replaced by an empty space.
“What… what is this?”
“Like this! You put it here and press the bell, and the other side will automatically come pick it up and sort it.”
The angel explained the system to me with a cheerful smile.
“The other side…? What’s on the other side?”
“Uhm~ You don’t need to know that yet, store clerk!”
“But still…”
“You don’t need to know!”
“Oh, I see.”
I reluctantly accepted the angel’s suggestion.
Yeah, as long as I was safe I was fine. There was no point worrying about anything else when the other side would sort it automatically.
Don’t cut open the goose that lays golden eggs.
… I wasn’t sure if that analogy was perfect, but whatever.
“Don’t worry! As long as you follow the regulations you won’t get hurt~”
… I decided not to add that I’d already died once on my first day.
Yeah. Think positively.
Before I knew it I’d realized that in this city, only I was holding onto common sense.
So the backroom was just a slightly bigger Traders, and if there was a mysterious friend helping with stock sorting who I couldn’t identify, how awesome would that be!
“What kind of enlightened expression is on your face?”
When we came out of the backroom, Kim Gichan who’d finished sorting asked about my face. I smiled and answered.
“I’ve decided not to talk about common sense in this city anymore.”
“You woke up. Go to the Sanctum City Gallery…”
“Your drip is seriously low.”
“It’s not that famous or anything…”
After the angel’s confession was rejected, today’s second full-hearted Kim Gichan was set aside. I headed back to the counter.
However, there was one thing I’d overlooked.
The backroom of the CS25 Sanctum City branch.
Was not just a slightly bigger Traders.
