Chapter Title: Report
The mercenary slowly raised his head.
Na Gang-in stood right in front of him. The pistol in his left hand had an empty magazine, its slide locked back, but the one in his right looked fully ready.
The mercenary rolled his eyes. He gripped his own pistol—if he just lifted it and pulled the trigger, he could fire.
Na Gang-in spoke.
"Go ahead if you're feeling confident."
The mercenary rolled his eyes again. Na Gang-in had already taken out six men single-handedly. He had no faith he could shoot faster than that guy.
'This is a trap! If I try to shoot, he'll drop me first.'
The mercenary carefully set his pistol on the ground, then raised both hands with an awkward smile.
"No, no. I surrender."
"Smart guy."
"Eek! Please spare me!"
Na Gang-in kicked the mercenary aside, then pulled the magazine from the fallen pistol. He removed the round from the chamber, loaded it into the mag, and chambered it in his left-hand gun before asking,
"How many left?"
The mercenary rolled his eyes and replied,
"H-how many did you take out...?"
"You included, seven."
"T-two left."
"Lie, and you'll be ruled KIA. Stray bullet right to the heart."
The mercenary immediately backpedaled.
"Three left! We were ten in total! The boss tricked us, saying we'd score big if we got into Palstar Tech's second son's warehouse. I was just following orders."
There was plenty more to squeeze out of this chatty bastard with a proper interrogation, but catching the rest came first.
"Spill it all just like this in the police station later. That way, the boss takes the full heat."
"Huh? Later...?"
Na Gang-in knocked him out with a sharp kick to the jaw.
He pulled out his phone. Still no signal.
"Jammer's still running."
The employees holed up in Warehouse 4 whispered in lowered voices.
"Gunshots everywhere?"
The small suppressors muffled the shots a lot, but not to total silence. Plenty of decent pops echoed.
"That agent guy... he okay?"
"Sounds still fighting means he's fine, right? If he got hit, shots would stop."
"Yeah, guess so?"
Yang Yong-jun kept staring at his smartphone screen beside them.
"Why no signal? We gotta report this quick!"
Na Gang-in walked onward, hunting enemies, and asked,
"One's Anderson, but the other two with him?"
"They're not shooting at me strutting around in the open, so yeah. Predicted spots?"
Na Gang-in checked Warehouse 2 first. Empty.
"Hey, that was on purpose. Now we just lock down the control room."
"They say you're at my intellectual level. If I'm dumb, so are you?"
"Right?"
"They figured I'd need the control room to call for backup, so set a trap there."
Two figures appeared beyond the wall in hologram footage.
"Huh? Two? You said three left."
"Or somewhere else..."
Na Gang-in whipped left.
A van sat there, with a massive drill for cracking safes beside it.
And next to the drill, a man armed with a submachine gun appeared.
That wasn't the only problem.
An evasion path marked in midair pointed toward the security control room interior.
The control room door stood wide open—easy entry. But two enemies lay in ambush inside.
He knew they'd left it open to lure him, but it was the only cover right now.
Na Gang-in dove into the control room. Almost simultaneously, a burst from the submachine gun raked where he'd stood.
As he leaped in, he flung both arms wide and fired left and right—not aimed shots, but suppressive fire hosing the enemies' directions.
The enemies had waited for his entry, only to eat a sudden bullet storm.
Anderson urgently ducked behind cover.
The mercenary on the opposite side didn't dodge—he fired at Na Gang-in. But shooting while cowering meant no accuracy, and Na was too fast. Bullets missed.
Na Gang-in kicked off the wall midair, flipped his body, and pulled the trigger again toward the enemy. Several rounds punched into the wall tracking his path, then one pierced the enemy's right arm.
"Argh!"
Na Gang-in kept his left pistol barking at Anderson's cover while firing two more from the right into the enemy. Rounds slammed into both his shoulders.
Now only Anderson remained in the control room.
Anderson peeked his pistol from cover and sprayed wildly ahead.
"Die! Die!"
Suddenly, a hot barrel pressed against the back of Anderson's head.
"Hot!"
Anderson froze mid-yell. He turned his head very, very slowly. Na Gang-in stood there.
"H-how'd you get behind me..."
Na Gang-in had dodged the attack, jumped to the ceiling, and flanked Anderson. Anderson, hunched low, hadn't seen it.
Na Gang-in said,
"Clone technique."
"Gasp! S-superpower...?"
"You buying that?"
Anderson rolled his eyes.
Mercenaries fought hard for their lives, but guys with a lot to lose cherished theirs more.
Anderson slowly set his pistol down.
"I surrender."
"What about the SMG guy outside?"
"Sh-should I tell him to surrender?"
"Nah. He won't listen to you. Unless he's bugging out solo."
"Still, if I talk to him nice..."
"You. What'd you plan with that anti-tank missile?"
"Th-that..."
The hot barrel pressed his head again.
"Got plenty others to ask. You know."
Anderson spotted his subordinate crumpled with three bullets. He answered fast.
"There was a client requesting that missile! He's the real boss!"
"No explosive in the warhead."
"Didn't hear the full plan, but if it's analyzing the Korean military's new anti-tank missile guidance and sensor tech, no need for the warhead to blow..."
Na Gang-in ejected Anderson's magazine, then transferred the remaining rounds to his own pistols' mags.
"Blow Warehouse 4, gather the folks here to put out the fire, fake it as an accident sweeping up the originals? Fake missile fragments in that van?"
Anderson startled.
"N-no such plan at all!"
"Yeah, right."
Na Gang-in stripped rounds from the three-shot guy's pistol too, topping off his mags.
Now the last guy.
"Hey, Anderson. If that van's explosives blow, safe in here?"
"W-well... if the walls hold..."
"Blow while you're outside the control room, you might die?"
"Huh? Why would I be out..."
Na Gang-in dragged Anderson to the door and shoved him outside. Anderson tumbled out the security room door.
"Huh? Wha?"
Bullets suddenly flew at Anderson. He flung both hands skyward, screaming,
"Aaaah! Don't shoot! It's me! Me!"
Na Gang-in pre-aimed at the predicted spot, then popped out the door. He caught the enemy rising from his shot at Anderson, panicking as he lowered the SMG.
Na Gang-in squeezed both triggers. Two rounds pierced both shoulders simultaneously.
"Argh!"
The SMG-wielding enemy collapsed screaming.
Anderson turned to Na Gang-in with a terrified face.
"N-now you'll spare me..."
Na Gang-in knocked him out with a jaw shot and walked to the van.
The final enemy lay beside it, howling in pain.
Na Gang-in grabbed the SMG, then checked inside the van.
"They really meant to blow it."
The jammer sat inside the control room. Na Gang-in flipped its switch off.
Moments later, phone signal returned.
"First, call Soon-gi..."
He started to dial Park Soon-gi, the police agent from his total gun class, then changed his mind.
"Nah. Hand this to the pros."
He called the detective from the Joint Investigation Headquarters. The detective picked up right away.
"Yeah."
The joint task force detective sounded chipper.
"Uh... well."
Silence hung briefly, then the detective asked cautiously,
"Got an incident. Seems like a joint task force case, so calling you."
A sigh came through.
"File regular police report and follow procedure?"
"Palstar Tech warehouse in Gapyeong. Bad guys hit it, I grabbed 'em."
Way too bare-bones. The detective's tone brightened again.
"The ones here. Not sure about accomplices outside."
"Someone I know got caught up here."
"Not injured, but condition's rough. Taking straight to hospital."
Na Gang-in recited the address, hung up, and said,
"Now let's get Su-yeon out of here."
He headed to Warehouse 4. The guarding employees poured out.
"Yaaay! He won!"
"Whoa, our special forces are no joke."
"Special forces? Or intel agency agent?"
"Oops! Can't ask affiliation then."
Na Gang-in told them,
"Nabbed five more. Tie 'em up together and watch 'em."
The warehouse manager assured,
"Leave it to us!"
"And that van by the control room's loaded with explosives and flammables, so careful."
"Pardon?"
"Shoot it, it blows."
The manager replied, tense-faced.
"Won't lay a finger on that van."
Na Gang-in left the rest to the employees and entered the warehouse.
Kwon Su-yeon sat by the door.
"Su-yeon. Let's go."
She reached out a hand.
"Legs won't hold me."
Na Gang-in slipped arms under her back and legs, scooping her up princess-style.
"To my car like this, then."
Kwon Su-yeon quickly wrapped her arms around his neck.
"Yeah."
Signal back, Yang Yong-jun reported to police first thing. About to call elsewhere, he spotted Na Gang-in carrying Kwon Su-yeon and freaked.
"Huh? Hey! Why're you carrying Su-yeon?!"
Na Gang-in glanced at Yang Yong-jun.
"Hospital."
"I'll take her!"
Kwon Su-yeon snapped at Yang Yong-jun,
"You. Stay away."
"Huh? Wha?"
"You drag me into this crap, and now you step up? Got the face for it?"
"N-no, I got tricked by Anderson too..."
"Whatever. Beat it."
To Na Gang-in, she said softly,
"Gang-in. Let's go."
Left behind, Yang Yong-jun muttered, flustered.
"This ain't how it was supposed to go..."
Na Gang-in drove off, and right after, patrol cars dispatched on Yang Yong-jun's report arrived.
Two officers stepped out.
"Robbers hit this warehouse?"
"Big gunfight too."
"No calls anywhere else. Gunfight my ass."
Suppressors kept shots from carrying far. No one else clocked them as gunfire.
"Not April Fools, but gotta roll on false reports?"
"Yep."
Sgt. Park said,
"Pop in, quick once-over, out."
