Chapter 27
Civil Servant Hunter’s S-class Resignation Log – Chapter 27
In stark contrast, the hopelessly naive Do Jun-young failed to notice a thing and breathed a sigh of relief.
"Good work. Just file the report and head home early today."
"Yes, thank you...!"
"......"
Se-jun fell silent. An epic scam was unfolding right before his eyes. He looked at Do Jun-young with profound pity.
Back in his previous life, the man had been as sharp as a finely honed blade for most of it. He just couldn't fathom why he was such a pushover this time around.
* * *
Lately, browsing the S-rank community had become Se-ra's new favorite pastime.
Her initial shock at their unfiltered madness hadn't lasted long. There was no funnier place on the net.
Take this recent post, for example.
Yoo Su-eun pointing fingers at Kang Se-jun like that? No one knew better than she did how unlikely that was.
She could practically hear Yoo Su-eun's wails just from reading it.
"Fair enough. He did rip her off pretty good."
Monsters that carried ore in their bodies were always rare. That was why magic stones embedded in them fetched top dollar.
And our regressor, Kang Se-jun, had exploited that to the hilt.
Recalling the horn ore sale price he'd texted her, Se-ra grinned happily.
"I'll cash some in at the coin bank, keep the rest as cash. No need for new gear anyway."
"Exactly. Thanks to you for the gear and weapons."
She'd never contracted an adult entity before, but she knew. The Administrator took extra special care of her.
Which made her wonder all of a sudden.
About the past life Kang Se-jun had described.
Since she either hadn't existed or hadn't been known back then, she probably hadn't contracted the Administrator. Had it been someone else?
If so, had Kang Se-jun ever met that contractor?
Could they be tied to his regression somehow?
'If that's the case, he'd start watching me the second he learns I'm the Administrator's contractor.'
It'd be horrifying if unknown events from before his regression came back to bite her. Yeah, wrap this up and cut ties immediately.
|YeongwonQuitter| : Whoa, epic. Kang Se-jun fleeced Guild Master Yoo Su-eun?! Her getting robbed... Kang Se-jun, can we be friends?
|SuhorangGuildFan| : You think the guy who robbed me won't rob you?
|YeongwonQuitter| : That's why we gotta team up!
|SuhorangGuildFan| : Fine. I'll rob you myself. I'll tip off Joo Eun every time he comes looking for you.
|Joo Eun| : Thanks^^
|YeongwonQuitter| : Aaaah nooooo!
Se-ra's face fell at Joo Eun jumping into the comment fray.
"This guild's vibe is all over the place..."
A vice guild master proudly sporting a "quit Yeongwon" username, and a guild master who didn't bat an eye.
|NoeulFan| : LMAOOOOO Did our guild master get fleeced?! LOL This is peak L-rank class!
|Han Su-eon| : Never met him, but I was curious. Seems like a fine fellow. Congrats on L-rank awakening.
|SuhorangGuildFan| : You bastard waaahhh!!!!!
"This place is unpredictable too..."
She'd thought Noeul's guild master was tight with Yoo Su-eun, but apparently not. Han Su-eon's reaction made more sensehe'd never seemed all that friendly with her.
"Not just an ice-cold face, but an ice-cold tongue too."
Thanks to that shitstain Park Jin-yong, they'd gotten on good terms, but it had ended decently enough.
Se-ra read the next comments.
|HannaHo| : Ooh, Kang Se-jun's got skills.
|Yeon-hee| : What a impressive newcomer^^
"Not a single soul backing Yoo Su-eun."
People only back those who've built up some goodwill, and she clearly hadn't. Se-ra clicked her tongue at the comments.
Then her phone pinged with a text.
[Got money from Suhorang Guild Master. Meet up, I'll hand it over.]
It was from Kang Se-jun.
"Just wire it. Why meet?"
She was planning to ghost him anywayseeing his face too often wasn't ideal. She fired off a reply, but his response forced her to grab her things and head out.
[You sure it's fine if a mystery fortune hits an F-rank civil servant's account outta nowhere?]
"......No way."
Song Han-na handled all her finances since her parents passed. If she noticed, it'd be disaster. Se-ra didn't want the state owning her life, so she grumbled and stepped out.
She shot a glare at the infuriating emoticon.
If he were here, she'd pinch his cheeks till they stretched! What a shame.
They'd agreed to meet in a quiet alley near her officetel. Secluded, but no choice.
Ever since his face got exposed during the magic stone cave raid, too many people recognized him. No point advertising their connectionbetter stay low-key.
"So, this way?"
It was dark; even the map was confusing. Peering at her phone and scanning around, Se-ra slipped into an alley with a lit streetlamp.
A few steps in, a flickering streetlamp gave out with a pathetic fizzle. As she glanced its way uneasily...
She sighed heavily at the Administrator's message.
"Ugh, seriously. Hoped it wasn't. Always gotta jinx it."
She muttered under her breath and sidestepped exactly one foot. The instant she did, a massive boom cracked the ground where she'd stood, fissures spiderwebbing out.
A very familiar ugly mug came into view.
This idiotwas he brain-dead?
"They had you under surveillance, but you shook them? Why pull a stunt this stupid?"
"Shut up!"
The giant fist that had smashed the pavement swung at her again. No need to draw yetSe-ra dodged back instead of countering. It whooshed through empty air.
"What trick did you pull?!"
He bellowed after whiffing twice. Made sense. To Park Jin-yong, she was still just an F-rank.
Three steps back, Se-ra sized him up coolly.
First time since that day, and he looked wreckedpudgy cheeks gaunt, eyes sunken, beard scraggly. Worst were the dark circles; his gaze gleamed with mad intensity. Not someone she'd want to stare at long.
"Trick? Your moves are so basic and sluggish, I could've yawned and dodged. Guess Cheongrang Guild cut you loose and you've slacked ever since."
Half-true. He was way slower than when he'd chucked her through the gate. Not her growthit was real regression.
"If not for you, I wouldn't be like this!"
"You're like this because you committed crimes. Why blame me?"
"No! It's all your fault. If you'd just died there, it'd be over!"
"That's your delusion. If I'd died, you'd have gotten crushed by the Association President herself, not just the director."
But his eyes were already wild; words weren't getting through. Park Jin-yong charged with a roar.
"This time, you're dead for sure! My life's ruined anyway. Come to hell with me! Hahaha!"
He was faster now, but still deranged A-rank level.
Se-ra muttered boredly.
"Doesn't even realize being alone hurts him more."
As he'd said, the area was deserted. Perfect revenge stage.
Thrill lit her face as she reached for her inventory.
She wasn't a good person. A good one wouldn't be death's closest hunter.
So no mercy. She'd been waiting for payback too.
Se-ra gripped Heat.
But she never got to unleash her rage.
The messages flashed as his fist connectedboom! Park Jin-yong's body rocketed backward.
